Gaming Console Network's Sean Foster checked out his June episode of Qore and made a huge discovery. The "PSP Go". Check out the first pictures of the system.

Though, the original PSP was a little pain for my hands, i wonder, how this one will hold in my hands... not sure, if it`s more comfortable...

to be honest it looks pretty nasty, i dont like the colour it looks like some old handheld from the 70s lol (minus the slide, and the awesome lbp on the screen), well i was waiting to see which to get the psp3000 or the pspgo, but looks like its gonna be the 3000 now, the analog stick looks like its in an awkward place, well on the upside atleast the psp3000 might come down in price now so thats good for me lol, oh btw does anyone know if it has any extra power or anything? or is it the exact same specs as the psp?

Redesigning the PSP and making it smaller is great (even though I think PSP 2000 is already perfect), but my only problem w/ PSP Go is the the placement of the analog and D-pad is horrible.

I personally use my index finger for the d-pad while using my thumb for the analog for a lot of games. Due to the success of Monster Hunter Japanese developers are copying that control scheme which is, analog for movement, and d-pad for camera. The new design just would not work if you want to move the d-pad and analog simultaneously.

It's a good thing that they are not phasing out PSP slims and seems like they are just testing the market w/ this PSP-Go by having both SKUs. No need to upgrade (IMO downgrade) if you already have a PSP IMO.

I was really hoping Sony would step it up with this product and take the lead in Handheld technology. Instead they choose to further isolate this product from one of the fastest growing markets in the world, just to make it smaller as if that's the reason IPhone is kicking down the PSP's door.

Not to mention I've got big hands so this just further prevents me getting a PSP-GO. AHhhahhhhhh! Ohh well, back to LBP on the PS3... got some ideas for a level I need to get worked out.

I hope the screen is GLASS like the iPhone and iPod touch so it doesn't scratch. I love how I don't have to worry about my iPod touch scratching when I put it into my pocket and since the PSP Go looks so pocket-friendly, it seems like a logical addition. Looks like a neat redesign but I'm disappointed that it still only has one analog stick though >:(

Wrong... It is called button mapping.. Acidmods have created second analog sticks for all of the psp models and they do work for games that are already out.

The crappy one analog stick controls is the reason I don't own Resistance right now! FPS is horrible on PSP and the thing is almost worthless for anything but PS1 classics, because few of those games actually used two analog sticks. But GOW COO worked well!

thinks that a second analog stick is not possible. For any reason, look at the video I posted ^. It is button mapping, the second analog stick acts as the Triangle, Square, Circle, and X. It would only make FPS on the psp easier for owners of the newest psp. It would NOT make new games unplayable on current models. I really think I am going to stick with my PSP slim and have acid mods add my second analog stick for me. Sony didn't want to segregate their own market by adding the stick, and thus.. They didn't create the best product they could, they crippled it instead.

What about the people that bought a lot of UMD games and want to sell their old PSP to get this new one? How will they be able to play the games that they paid their hard earned money for? Will they have to pirate them, or will Sony take care of their customer?

Just curious why would you wonder about your UMD's if you ALREADY have a psp that plays them? What you buy systems for the hell of it?

IF Sony were to address this I would imagine some kiosk setup in store to help transfer them but as I said why would you buy a system you already own?

I like the design of this and I LOVE the fact they got rid of UMD. Get over it folks it's a useless format and it was never a good idea to begin with. battery drain, moving parts in a protable system, limited capacity, LOOOOOOOONNNNNNGGGGG loading times.

Sony should have just put dual Memory Stick PRO DUO slots in the psp on top, one for games and one for storage or both for storage (to play your downloaded games/movies whatever) or one game in each from the start.

To those asking where is the second analog? Your gonna have to wait till the PSP2. Changing hardware like that would only alienate gamers and segregate the market as the games made by devs that used that would not be compatible on previous PSP's at all weather you downloaded the game or bought it on some media.

Which brings me to my biggest concern. It's great that sony is adopting the Digital Distribution with this but in order for it to be a success we are gonna need the bulk of the PSP library (at least 90%) online, day one available for download from the PS store AND it's gotta be dirt freakin cheap.

If it's working for the iPhone, then it will work even better for the PSP. Sony and all other PSP devs would make more money if games were cheaper and since this is pure downloads there is no need for raw materials. The overhead costs on just downloading is next to nothing compared to physical media.

This thing has he potential to print money. Just hope Sony see's it the way i do.

Why people NEED a second analog? nobody plays or nobody makes fps on the psp. I think one of the last ThirdPS is R:Retribution but beyond that, the psp is about RPGs, action/adventure, etc nothing that needs a second analog.

I don't remember reading anyone saying that it NEEDED a second analog. All I read is that they wanted one. It is a fair thing to ask for. Not everyone likes RPG's or adventure games, and they prefer shooters. To have a solid portable shooter would be great and it would definitely sell well. Take a solid FPS on the console, port it to the PSP, with proper controls, and you would have surging sales for the PSP. I agree that is NOT ABSOLUTELY ESSENTIAL, but it is heavily asked for and would be welcomed.

PS1 games didn't require analog sticks, they were always optional to use. (Dualshock controller wasn't available at PS1 launch) What PSP really needs is another row of shoulder buttons (R2/L2).

Looks about right to me. Cosmetic changes will mean some new customers. Wonder what other changes there are under the hood apart from the lack of UMD.

I'm really hoping with this announcement Sony will also beef up the PSP store with a ton of stuff. Looking forward to that more IMO.

EDIT: I don't see this costing them that much more to produce than the current model. Wonder if it'll be more or less then the 3000 and if there will be a price drop.

You're out of your mind if you think implementation of a touch screen+touch screen technology costs $100-200,unless it's an OLED display Touch will only cost $20-45 max on the PSP.

1) We don't know the initial price of this model.

2) Besides it include a Flash Memory (size yet unknown), if we compare it with a iPod Touch 16GB price it could easily compete or be around the same price tag.

3) We don't know which new special functionality this new model include.

...keep in mind that if Sony released a PSP that had two analog sticks, they would be considered to be evil. Why? Soon, many developers would start taking advantage of the second analog stick with their games. These games, however, would not work at all (or very well) with the old PSPs. Owners of the old PSP who want to stick with their consoles and not have to upgrade to the latest and greatest PSP would start to see their game choices diminish and would feel compelled to upgrade to the newer hardware. Never a good situation.

So, it only makes sense for Sony to keep the same controller configuration from one PSP to the next. MAYBE if they released an entirely new PSP with completely new hardware, game rendering engine, etc... could they get away with adding a second analog stick.

The slide screen seems vey gimmicky, but this is a revision not an revolution in the PSP design. The touch screen works for the ipod and DS as gimmicks. I can see this new slide working for the PSP.

The PSP Go has a 3.8" screen. The PSP-3000 (slim) has a 4.3" screen.

The entire PSP Go is probably only about 5.5" in length.

Once again Sony has designed what looks to be one of the most ugliest electronic devices ever created, this is truly an aesthetic abortion. After seeing this device I now know that there is no hope for the PSP platform, and that it is yet another nail in the coffin of the evil Sony empire.

Not even the most militant of fandroid will admit to liking this awful looking device, this would be an embarassment to take out in public compared to the beauty and elegance of the Zune HD and Xbox 360.

I am going to enjoy reading all the meltdowns and the cries of the fandroids on N4G about how positively homosexual this new electronic device is, though perhaps that is why some of them may actually be attracted to it.

I think I am starting to like the executives at Sony now, it seems they hate the PlayStation brand as much as I do.

You can download games to the current PSPs as well in the same way as you will on the PSP Go.

Apart from the redesign and the lack of UMD drive, it's the same basic hardware and software.

I will have to see a few more things before I run out to get in line for this thing. My brother bought a PSP at launch and neither of us have touched it since. Sony totally gave up on this thing. On my ds i get brand new zelda and mario games, as well as other great games. While the psp only has a crappy resistance game, the GoW:CoO was ok, but the lack of such games as lbp or motorstorm portable editions is holding the system back. The whole console war between the 360 and PS3 led to them neglecting their handheld and killing it. I dont see this being any different.

The PSP is a decent piece of kit and I use it quite regularly for watching movies ect. But gaming wise its a bit crippled by the lack of 2 analogue sticks.

A change for the better? Im not so sure. But at the same time, its positioned more for people who havent yet bought a PSP. This may attract some new buyers. But Sony still has one huge problem with the PSP they will never fix; they aren't Nintendo.

Sounds mean, but I really dont mean it that way. I myself have a launch PSP, but I barely touch the thing. Obviously, Nintendo rules portable gaming with an iron fist, but I think the PSP's biggest problem from the start may have been Apple.

First the iPod, then the iPhone. The big draw of the PSP was not just that it played games, but that it was a mini multimedia player. But the iPod was just starting to go beyond just music when the PSP released, taking the lionshare of that market. Then the iPhone and other multimedia phones; not only could you listen to music and play movies, but the games have gotten much much better in recent times, especially on the iPhone.

Add in the inherent advantage of always having your phone with you anyway, plus its smaller size factor, and its that much harder for the PSP to shine. From a pure games standpoint, its in a weird place. Nintendo definitely has better "portable" games and games that appeal to kids and women, while the PSP doesnt. The PSP excels in bringing PS2-like games to a portable. But then the problem is just playing on a PS2, not to mention a PS3/360 or even Wii is a much better experience for those types of games.

Okay there is definitely a lot of whining here. If you would trade something that has more appealing design vs. practicality, then I have no clue what to say for your logic. For me personally, I will trade appeal for practicality. The purpose is portability, and the feel of a multimedia device. The previous PSPs were still quite bulky and cannot easily be taken here and there(from the perspective of a casual consumer).

Regarding the awkward button mapping, I believe that this will be fine. You will not know until you try it out personally. It looks similar to the DS button mapping, and so far that has worked for all of its games (including fighting games, which was what I was worried about at first, but it does work).

As for the second analog stick, adding one will be a hamper because if developers develop controls for a game using both analog sticks, what will the PSP1-3k use? Essentially they can't play the game. Also, the classic PS1 games had dual analogs as optional, so there is no problem there.

Seriously, until people try this system out, how will we know if it sucks or not? I for one cannot wait until I can get a hands on with it. It looks very appealing if you consider all the practical implementations that has been added.
