How to Stream Netflix Movies to Your PlayStation 3

Due to the increased popularity of online gaming, the PS3 has built-in WiFi that allows you to directly log on to Hulu with the game system's Web browser. (The PS3 is already a great device for watching movies on a DVD because it has a Blu-ray player).

You can then watch shows as you would on your computer, but there is a major problem: to get video to fit on a large screen requires you to zoom in, resulting in oversized pixels on the TV screen. To watch Netflix and Amazon VOD content, which both use plug-ins the PS3 can't handle, you need to turn one of your home computers into a media server.

Don't panic.

been using playon for a while now. well worth the price, bought when it was still $29.99 or cheaper.

there is extra value in the user created plugins as well.

nfl.com, nba.com, adultswim, video podcasts, Local File Streaming, etc etc etc

i rarely even turn on my cable box anymore.

Hallucinate5441d ago

funny how xbots brag about netflix...well ps3 has netflix,hulu,youtube...well basically everything

snaz275441d ago

i just download mine for free straight to the ps3 hdd... great picture most recent movies (even sometimes before there out in the cinema lol), sooooo sorry but netflix? what? lmao

maniacmayhem5441d ago

I do the same,

except I have both my PS3 and 360 hooked to my router with my computer.

so I just stream it from my computers HD

JsonHenry5441d ago

I just have my PC hooked up to my 46" 1080p TV. But it is good to know my PS3 could do this as well if I was in a pinch.

xwabbit5441d ago

lol yah i go to my movie sites on the PS3 and watch em for free

Raoh5441d ago

i download too, but its nice to have access to movies that may not be worth your hard drive space and bandwidth to download. sometimes i come across movies i've never seen and then decide to download or even buy them.

yes i buy movies too. LOL

Hulu is great too.

Currently requires streaming from a PC. This would kick so much arse if it could be installed on the PS3 off of the Video XMB rather than having to stream from a PC.

Godmars2905441d ago

Netflix alone doesn't match what Playon does.

dragunrising5441d ago (Edited 5441d ago )

I agree. I am using the 14 day trial of Play On and its great. It would be perfect if your PC didn't have to stay on to use the service. If Play On had native support on PS3, you wouldn't need a network to use it.

@Godmars290

Thats not what he's saying at all. He isn't comparing netflix on 360 to play on. Also, its available for PS3 and 360 so your console superiority agenda is moot.

Godmars2905441d ago

Not a console comparison, but one between Playon and Netflix streaming. By all rights if Playon were an independent program installable on the PS3 the same would probably apply to the 360.

dragunrising5441d ago

I think I know what you mean. As a service PlayOn offers more, I agree. However, its not as streamlined, lacks official support and is handicapped by its own design. I would defiantly pay for PlayOn if I could use it independent of my PC.

Godmars2905441d ago

Why doesn't anyone bring up the fact that to put movies on the 360 queue you have to use a PC? Or that the majority of Netflix's streamed library is worthless?

There's stuff on Hulu I can watch for free that I had to get through the mail from Netflix. Incomplete series discs no less. Part of the reason I canceled my account.

Christopher5440d ago (Edited 5440d ago )

Don't see how you could take it otherwise. I just wish they'd eliminate the need for a PC with PlayOn and put out a version of the app to run directly on the PS3. Kind of like how other countries have video/audio streaming programs available on the PS3.

Yes, this could be done for the 360 as well, but I choose to stream media to my PS3 when I do just because the upscaling is handled better IMHO and my personal preference in hardware. I have also watched Netflix from my 360, but typically only to watch some old episodes of Columbo since I can get everything else on Cable TV or Hulu.

Ranking the Devil May Cry Series

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "Upon finally finishing Devil May Cry 5 recently - after it spent several years on my “I’ll play that soon” list - I considered giving it a fittingly-named Late Look article. However, considering that this was indeed the final piece I was missing in the DMC puzzle, I decided to instead take this opportunity to take a look back at the entirety of this genre-defining series and rank the entries. What also made this a particularly tempting notion was that while most high-profile series have developed fairly evenly over time, with a few bumps on the road, the history of Devil May Cry has, at least in my eyes, been an absolute roller coaster, with everything from total disasters to action game gold."

First to last for me...3,4,5,1,2.

VersusDMC4h ago

Me leaving it out should be telling of my thoughts on it. Better than 2 as a DMC game.

Still a good game though.

Friendlygamer5h ago

3,1,4,5 to me, never played 2. 5 gameplay is amazing but level design was really disappointing to me, just a bunch of plain arenas, the story felt like a worse written rehash of the 3rd and the charater models looked weird ( specially the ladies ). Another problem with 5 was that there was not enough content for 3 charaters so I could never really familiarize with any of them

monkey6024h ago(Edited 4h ago)

2.
Dmc.
4.
5.
1.
3.

God DMC2 was an awful game.
And in case this isn't obvious it goes worst to best

Yui_Suzumiya2h ago

1 and DmC. The rest are unimportant.

DarXyde2h ago

Order changes depending on your focus. I tend to focus on gameplay/fun factor, so...

5, 3, 1, 4, 2.

I really didn't like 4 but commend Dante's weapon diversity. The retreading of old ground was pretty unacceptable to me.

But even then... Still more enjoyable than 2 for me
