Boy finds pile of rocks inside new DS box

Now this is a bit strange. Normally, when one purchases a DS, he/she would probably expect to find a handheld inside. But for one 16-year-old, that was not the case at all.

This exact same thing happened to me when I went to buy my first PSP a couple years back. Got home, opened the box, there they were. I pulled some fingerprints off the rocks and ran them through APHIS. Got a hit, found the person, cut off his hands with a chainsaw and watched him bleed to death.

evrfighter5470d ago

I had a friend that worked at at circuit city who would steal hard drives, video cards...consoles. Filled the boxes with broken hard drives, video cards and consoles he brought from home.

He never got busted for it.

HAHAHAH! You should try working at Fry's Electronics. You dilly dally around for hours talking with your co-workers about anything and you get paid for it. You have to walk around your department from time to time though. The pay is okay for a summer job. But they usually clean out their employees every season. Good experience.

Lol, that was brilliant -Ghost of Sparta- Cruel and Unusual punishment? What cruel about chopping a thieves hands off? They did it hen Jesus walked the earth. ;)

retail fraud. everyone's doing it. We're always getting screwed. Why not screw them?

Seriously. This is serious, and not something to laugh about. People are always finding a way to scam the system. It doesn't help that no one at most stores actually check the returns either. When I first bought my xbox way back when (Ninja Gaiden), I came home to find a used system that was absolutely disgusting & covered in filth stuffed inside my box. I had to fight with the store for a week because they "claimed" I swapped out the new one for my old one. Seriously, if that were the case I would not have mentioned that would I? No, I'd have brought it back and said NOTHING. Anyway, though probably rare it is certainly a problem. People need to learn to actually check what they buy before they leave the store nowadays to ensure they're getting what they paid for....

ThanatosDMC5470d ago

Stuff like this is more rampant on ebay. Those that buy the box of the item without any item in it. Then the seller justifies the sale because it actually does say the box only and that there's nothing inside. Sad, but true.

Raz5470d ago

Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware. Not paying until you see the goods is a good policy; checking boxes before you leave; checking receipts to make sure the cashier didn't overcharge you; etc etc.

For stuff like eBay there's a complaint process. Read carefully and don't buy from anyone below a 100% approval rating if you can help it. Check comments from other buyers...etc etc.

It'd be nice if more people were honest (and/or intelligent) but it's your money, so the responsibility to take good care of it is yours too.

Certainly not the kid's fault, of course - but at least he still got his gift.

a lady buys a cup of HOT coffee and burns the hell outta herself. she gets 3 million dollars for her own stupidity.

a lady buys a ds box at walmart and gets rocks. they offer her nothing, not even her money back. then is given 20 dollars for the grief after she files a complaint.

anyone see an imbalance here?

Buttons5470d ago

This is not true. The judge reduced the amount to $640,000 and then they letter settled out of court

Nikuma5470d ago

Did you know that the HOT coffee she burned herself on actually melted through the cup and burned her? It wasn't like she was just retarded and spilled it in her lap.

TheDude2dot05470d ago

@above

Actually she was. She had the coffee between her legs and it spilled out of the lid onto her legs. It did not melt the cup.

1. Mrs. Liebeck's car was not moving; it was parked. Her son-in-law was driving. Not her.
2. The coffee was scalding (180-190 degrees) which can cook all layers of skin within 7 seconds. It was not as hot as normal coffee (135-140 degrees).
3. Mrs. Liebeck asked for payment of her medical bills before filing suit. She did not want to sue.
4. She spent eight days in the hospital and had painful skin grafts and debridement treatments.
5. Her genitalia and buttocks had third degree burns. The skin on those sensitive places of her body had to be peeled off, then other skin from her body had to be peeled off and then placed on her genitalia and buttocks.
6. McDonald's rejected her offer and then mediation, insisting on a trial.
7. McDonald's admitted its coffee was 40 to 50 degrees hotter than is fit for human consumption.
8. Mrs. Liebeck suffered third-degree burns over 6 percent of her body.
9. McDonald's knew more than 700 people, including babies, had been burned by its coffee.
10. McDonald's told the jury it wouldn't lower its coffee's temperature, prompting the jury to punish the corporation.
11. The jury awarded $200,000 for "out of pocket" economic damages, reduced to $160,000 because it found Mrs. Liebeck 20 percent at fault.
12. The jury's decision to punish McDonald's with $2.7 million in punitive damages for blatant misconduct was reasoned: That's two days of coffee sales for McDonald's.
13. At trial, Judge Robert Hayes Scott reduced the punitives to three times actual damages--$480,000.10. Post-verdict mediation was ordered, the case settled, and there was no appeal.
11. McDonald's immediately lowered the temperature of its coffee.

Edit: Wait why were babies burned by the coffee?

lsujester5469d ago

@ 1.12

I have literally seen women holding infants with one arm while drinking things with the other. Granted, it was a coke, but it wouldn't surprise me to know some woman spilled hot coffee on her baby.

Wal-Mart needs to label their returned products somehow. Of course, they should check the product when it's returned. But then re-wrap it and label it as such. I guess people wouldn't pay full price then.

Seraphim5470d ago

I don't think it has anything to do w/ labeling. But they DO NEED to CHECK. If someone brings it back claiming it's still new/sealed they don't think twice to look at it to make sure everything is in fact there/new.

Still not as sad (or funny) as the kid whose parents bought him a PS3 for Christmas and when the kid opened the PS3's box...

there it was...

This is such a bullshi.t.

Reevr5470d ago

Lol what's a 16 year old doing buying a DS? Has he not heard of a PSP?

Rourker5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

I know this because Beyonce has one.

PS I accidentally disagreed with you, I mistaken it for the reply because I apparently can't read.

PatDH5470d ago (Edited 5470d ago )

Beyonce is gross lol.

My opinion.

Edit: On-topic - Lol! That would suck, but it's pretty funny aswell. Did he not notice that perhaps when he moved the box that it sounded a bit strange? You know.. that it may of had rocks in it? Hahaha.

Interesting article, it doesn’t surprise me because some people are better all a-rounders than others. Regardless of fame or how good they are in their specialty.

This is why I feel like the live action stuff in Alan Wake 2 especially is pretty bad. It also looks really cheap and amateurish.
