Boy finds pile of rocks inside new DS box

Now this is a bit strange. Normally, when one purchases a DS, he/she would probably expect to find a handheld inside. But for one 16-year-old, that was not the case at all.

This exact same thing happened to me when I went to buy my first PSP a couple years back. Got home, opened the box, there they were. I pulled some fingerprints off the rocks and ran them through APHIS. Got a hit, found the person, cut off his hands with a chainsaw and watched him bleed to death.

I had a friend that worked at at circuit city who would steal hard drives, video cards...consoles. Filled the boxes with broken hard drives, video cards and consoles he brought from home.

He never got busted for it.

HAHAHAH! You should try working at Fry's Electronics. You dilly dally around for hours talking with your co-workers about anything and you get paid for it. You have to walk around your department from time to time though. The pay is okay for a summer job. But they usually clean out their employees every season. Good experience.

Seriously. This is serious, and not something to laugh about. People are always finding a way to scam the system. It doesn't help that no one at most stores actually check the returns either. When I first bought my xbox way back when (Ninja Gaiden), I came home to find a used system that was absolutely disgusting & covered in filth stuffed inside my box. I had to fight with the store for a week because they "claimed" I swapped out the new one for my old one. Seriously, if that were the case I would not have mentioned that would I? No, I'd have brought it back and said NOTHING. Anyway, though probably rare it is certainly a problem. People need to learn to actually check what they buy before they leave the store nowadays to ensure they're getting what they paid for....

Stuff like this is more rampant on ebay. Those that buy the box of the item without any item in it. Then the seller justifies the sale because it actually does say the box only and that there's nothing inside. Sad, but true.

Caveat emptor - let the buyer beware. Not paying until you see the goods is a good policy; checking boxes before you leave; checking receipts to make sure the cashier didn't overcharge you; etc etc.

For stuff like eBay there's a complaint process. Read carefully and don't buy from anyone below a 100% approval rating if you can help it. Check comments from other buyers...etc etc.

It'd be nice if more people were honest (and/or intelligent) but it's your money, so the responsibility to take good care of it is yours too.

Certainly not the kid's fault, of course - but at least he still got his gift.

When I bought my PS3 at Frys Electronics 4 months ago, right after I purchased it I asked the cashier for scissors so I could cut the bands and open the box, and check-matched the serial numbers.

Always, ALWAYS check the box before you take it out of said store.....Always.

It's not a lie. I've returned broken systems that I tampered with. I've known people who have returned systems with phone books in them. If it's not open, the stores won't check it, the key is to make it not look open. I've watched people do it. I watched people when I worked at Target steal electronics all the time and shove other stuff in the boxes. People are just ridiculous
