Killzone 2 has proved on many fronts. Graphics, game play, sound, etc you name it.
I'll start with Graphics. When Sony showed that Target render at E3.. it doesn't justify how good this game looks! It has a gritty atmosphere which is why you don't see many bright colors and i get that. The character animations, environment (its destructible!, weapon animations, etc are all extremely detailed. Back was such as day when graphics meant sacrifice of gameplay, and the vice versa. PlayStation 3 has proved that wrong with many games now. This is probably one of the best console graphics to date, heck I'd put it in one of the best graphics for any game category.
Game play is amazing. With a perfect cover system, which is 'icky' at first, but within an hour into the game it'll become natural. Same goes for the 'weight' of the weapons. This initially put me off from the game, but I came back to it and found much pleasure to be had. The multiplayer is where the game truly shines. Its faster and better than the Single Player (and I thought that wasn't possible). Warzone is a truly great way to play multiplayer. It gives you random objectives to complete together as a team. Instead of just 'Capture the flag' (Search and Retrieve) or Team Deathmatch (Bodycount)you get to do all of them without a loading screen! (or going back to the lobby!) The badges and class system to something to be pleased with. This is the successor to the famed 'Team Fortress'.
Here are the classes of online multiplayer:
Rifleman:
The default multiplayer character is assigned when no primary badge is selected. A secondary badge may still be added. Riflemen can start with most weapons, except for the specialized ones.
Engineer:
Primary badge ability: Sets up an automated turret which targets the enemy.
Secondary badge ability: Repairs ammunition dispensers, mounted guns, and automated turrets.
Medic:
Primary badge ability: Revives downed team mates.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a health pack, which can be picked up by other players.
Scout:
Primary badge ability: Uses a cloaking suit to become near-invisible.
Secondary badge ability: Tags all on-screen enemy players with a hidden marker, which broadcasts their coordinates to team mates.
Assault:
Primary badge ability: Dons heavy armour twice as strong as normal.
Secondary badge ability: Temporarily boosts running speed.
Tactician:
Primary badge ability: Throws a coloured smoke grenade, which serves as a spawn point.
Secondary badge ability: Requests air support from a sentry bot which targets the enemy.
Saboteur:
Primary badge ability: Assumes the disguise of a randomly selected enemy player.
Secondary badge ability: Throws a sticky, proximity-activated C-4 charge.
Now to the Sound in the game. 7.2 channel audio, need I say more? Well, yes I do. The one flaw in the amazing sound recordings of Killzone 2 is the voice acting. It's not bad, but it could have been better. But scolar visari's Voice acting makes up for it. The best voice acting since last June. :D (Yes, David Hayter ;)) The explosion, bullets everything sounds the way it should. (this is a common feat among the next-gen games FYI)
The PlayStation 3 may not have been the strongest generation for Sony, but there were still some diamonds in the rough that deserve a revisit as PS5 remasters.
Even if they could just remaster and put on PSVR2, some would still look great as VR titles and could do a whole lot to bolster the headset w these exclusives! I'd imagine the investment of reworking these titles into VR would be way less than building new games from the ground up, and they could be amazing experiences, and VR often makes flat games feel fresh again. The Resistance and Killzone games are particularly what I want to see!!
The time is perfect for a resistance fall of man game campaign coop multiplayer
Resistance was ok but Warhawk and Starhawk was better and kept me coming back for almost a decade of fun and petty revenge on the loud mouth unskilled players 🤣
Edit I loved capture the flag dropping the pot on the flag carrier was extremely satisfying as well as transforming your plane in bot form and stumping them to death 😱
The Amsterdam-based studio reflects on its humble beginnings, beloved franchises, and growth through the years.
Up there with the top tier in the industry. Love Guerrilla Games - Horizon Burning Shores is simply STUNNING.
32.7M sales in the Horizon franchise! With 8.4M coming from Forbidden West alone! Truly a hugely successful game and franchise as a whole. Looking forward to Horizon III
Yooo, when I first saw that Killzone 1 footage at E3, my friends my brothers and I were like, Holy shit! When it came out, it didn't look exactly like it, but we sunk so many hours into 1 & 2.
I even liked Killzone: SF, it was a spectacle to look at, and even today it looks good. I hope they make a new one. Can you imagine how that will look, and they can get some modern FPS pointers from Bungie.
Such a wonderful studio. They deserve all their success.
The Decima Engine is absolute 🔥 I'm just mad they have abandoned Killzone.
Alex DS. from Link Cable Gaming writes: "Is the PlayStation 3 retro? This is a surprisingly hard question to answer as the system definitely has the age to be considered retro, having launched in 2006, over 15 years ago now. But with it being home to so many massive games, many of which still hold up today and in fact were released for the PlayStation 4 when that console was released, make the PS3 a retro console that doesn’t feel retro."
Typically, the term retro is given to items which are at least 20 years old (but not yet 40 years old).
Quick google search
No the PS3 is not yet a retro console. But if you're gonna put 1 game from a series in this list, then LBP2 should be there instead of the original, Motorstorm PR is also an overall better game than the 1st game and to put Tools of Destruction over A Crack in Time is a blasphemy when ACiT is the best game in the series.
-No variety.
-Long loading screens.
-No co-op
-Unbelievable hard to aim when you start playing.
-The boss fights are REALLY much fun.
-SixAxis controls for placing mines is fun and entertaining.
-The AI is one of the best ever.
;)
I've been seeing that used to down Killzone II by many who had didn't like it or were negative about the game even before it launched. It's almost like they had to find SOMEHTING to dig at it
cause the voice acting is one of the best I've seen in any FPS with only the likes of Half LIfe and even that's by a hair. Playing Killzone II was like watching a movie on the sci-fi channel.
I think this is one thing that people want to make stick with Killzone 2 but it's bullshit. MGS4, as you mentioned, didn't have any better voice acting so please save that BS or give examples as to where the voice acting in MGS4 were obviously or overly better than Killzone II.
All these PS3 exclusive games like Killzone II, Uncharted, Mgs4, Heavenly Sword etc all have great voice acting so I'm not so sure why people are trying to make this stick with KZ2 that it has average or low quality voice acting.
When a game makes you feel like you're watching a movie and not a comic book then that's exceptional in my book.
I thought Killzone 2 campaign was good but not great, some parts were really cool though. The multiplayer too, although Im hooked on the ranking system, it all gets quite repetitive.
Thanks for putting the rank details up there though.
You are right the voice acting isn't bad, it is some of the worst I have ever seen. The writing is awful (even worse than Gears of War) and is only surpassed by the horrible acting. You are entitled to your opinion but seeing you say it's not bad makes me wonder if you were paying attention.
