There's Gran Turismo 5, Any Other Good 2009 Racing Games?

Gran Turismo 5 is expected to be one of the best racing titles of 2009. Judging by the standards of GT5: Prologue, the combination of graphics and realistic handling, makes it one of the best titles out there. However, what other games can we expect to be of good quality in 2009.

Assuming GT5 comes out next yr i expect it to be the best and most complete racing game ever made. That being said those are just my expectations it doesn't necessarily make it true

They have a very solid engine in GT5 if they add all the things they promised to add and they fix the online mode then i really don't see any other racer standing a chance. Be it via reviews or by sales.

phosphor1125589d ago

The GT guy (you know who im talking about) said it will more than likely be 2010 that it comes out. I saw the article on n4g earlier this week i think.

What about FORZA3 or you mean in the year 2009 only?
Forza3 developers are not wasting time and they are not joking around.

INehalemEXI5589d ago

Im getting good mileage out of GT5P full version will be nice when it comes along.

cherrypie5589d ago

"What about FORZA3 or you mean in the year 2009 only?

This entire forum has turned into a anti-Forza troll.

"any other Good racing games"?

No one in their right mind -- who isnt kidding themselves -- damn well know that Forza 3 is going to be fantastic. GT5 is going to have a serious run for it's money.

Foraz 2 showed how racing games should be built, Forza 3 is going to blow us away. Mark. My. Words.

INehalemEXI5589d ago (Edited 5589d ago )

Forza 2 was more customizable arcade racer then driving sim racer I would put GRID and Forza in the same league and thats not a bad thing its just different. GT5 is still the driving simulator and driving sims should not handle like Forza 2.

XGRaViSmOrSX5588d ago

the only reason i doubt that forza 3 will give GT5 a run for its money is simply because the team making forza doesnt put the same attention to detail that polyphony does.

in forza 2 look at the honda civic hatchback. its listed as an SiR yet the back on the back is VTi. and the civic del sol has a 97+ front bumper but the 97+ bumper didnt have foglights.

its little stupid things like that, that polyphony wouldnt miss. i know its small and trivial but when you see some of your favorite cars represented incorrectly and especially on something so basic as that, its like why...?

also the customizing w/ bodykits was a bit trivial w/ forza seeing as how they usually had 1 maybe 2 high end kits worthy of putting on the car. the rest were wings west or other gaudy kit that killed the lines of the car and made them look horrible, not to mention the forza designed kits. and compare that to the GT designed kits/cars in GT5:P. much more polished and thought out.

i hope they spend more time on forza3 instead of just improving slightly but not enough in everything like they did w/ forza2 which for the most part was just a graphical upgrade.

Dirt 2 comes out next year, might be fun? Also Fuel looks kewl. But GT5 will be the best racer of 2009 if it comes out.

yanikins1115589d ago

codemasters have lost it. WTF happened to the team that brought us Toca And collin Mcrae rally? (the first ones)

and ill continue asking, WTF was with grid? That game ate the bollocks something fierce. After playing that, I doubt ill ever buy another codemasters game.

<shakes head>

Sarcasm5589d ago

GRID left a sour taste in my mouth with it's road racing.

But man oh man I have that game PURELY for the drift portion. Quite possibly the closest to real life drifting excitement I've ever played. Of course it's not realistic, but it definitely captures that "holy sh*t" of d1 drifting.

ZootHornRollo5589d ago

you've never played a real drifting game then.

TXRD or D1GP

then talk

Sarcasm5589d ago

I've played and HAVE both on the PS2, so what's your point?

prowiew5589d ago

Of that list Dirt 2 is my game.

Sarcasm5589d ago

Nurburgring WILL come to GT5P before GT5!

You heard it here first!

Forza 2 looks better than race pro IMO

How Burnout Paradise bucked the trend and made open-world racing irresistible

Met with derision from existing Burnout-series fans at the time, Burnout Paradise remains arguably the greatest open-world racing game of all time. Here's why.

SullysCigar344d ago

I don't know why - and I know I'm probably on my own here - but I liked Takedown more. I think it was just 'different' enough to feel fresh. I also loved the destruction.

On that note, a new Motorstorm would be nice! All that mud, dust and car pieces flying everywhere blew my mind on PS3 - imagine what they could do now.

NJShadow343d ago

I loved Burnout Paradise, but Burnout 3: Takedown will always be the best game in the series, for me. Burnout 3 is arguably the most fun game ever made, with the greatest licensed soundtrack ever.

EazyC344d ago

I played through the remaster quite recently. It's not as good as I remember, but I think a lot of that is because the "open world" thing was still pretty fresh back then.

I do think there's a gap in the market for a game like Burnout. With the new gen they could really make car damage a huge selling point again.

BrainSyphoned344d ago

Paradise gave me open world burnout before I knew it was a thing.

CPTN MITCHELL344d ago

Burnout paradise remastered and original are my favorite, i got the platinum trophy for both games the nighthawk is my favorite car

Einhander1971344d ago

Personally don't give a shit for open world racers. Give me a new Motorstorm, Split second, Outrun.

PlayStation 3: chasing the 1080p dream, part three - Gran Turismo 5 and the indie explosion

From Digital Foundry: "Welcome to the third part in the biggest DF Retro episode we've ever produced - a year-by-year look at how 1080p gaming fared on the PlayStation 3. Launched in 2007 touting its then-exclusive HDMI digital interface, Sony layered full HD gaming on top of its Cell processor and RSX 'Reality Synthesizer' as key selling points for its third generation console. Of course, we all know how that turned out - both Sony and Microsoft machines routinely ran the most advanced titles at sub-720p resolutions, often with questionable performance, so what happened to the 1080p dream?

In the first two parts of John Linneman's investigation, we've covered off the first four years of the Triple's lifecycle and moving into 2010, the overall fortunes of the PlayStation 3 continued to improve. The platform holder released - what was then - the most advanced motion controller in the console space, backed up by experiments with stereoscopic 3D, which turned out to be a short-lived but still formidable pairing. Combined with a strong E3 showing, PS3 was looking good.

However, it's fair to say that it was a fallow year for 1080p gaming on the system, with only Scott Pilgrim Saves The World's razor-sharp pixel art upscaling, Castle Crashers and Soldner X2's 3D/FMV stylings accommodating full HD output - alongside a wonderful Monkey Island remaster."

Just remember ladies and gentlemen, Sony never said all games would be 1080p. Only that the system would support games up to 1080p in a survey before the system was released.
https://spong.com/article/9...
And as we saw, some games did support it, some games tried their best to support it and some games didn't or never reached it.

Is a higher resolution great to have if you can do it? Sure. Is it necessary for a fun game? No

But what I find interesting is Eurogamer. Are they really talking about HD and PS3 in their article or are they really pushing their 4.50 Euros 4K video download subscription? Seems one is being used to sell the other. Just look at the bottom of the article.

Michiel1989631d ago

thats what every company tries to do, push for people to buy their products. Are you really gonna blame them for that?

ApocalypseShadow630d ago

Not all articles are about selling. They're about informing or entertaining.

Maybe I'm supposed to watch the video instead of reading. But I shouldn't have to click. But the article lazily tells us some games did hit 1080p and some didn't. I didn't learn anything new as I own the console. Then, they push a Patreon subscription.

Are you saying every opinion, preview, review and rant article requires a push to buy something now? Tell me which sites are prone to do so so that I can avoid them in the future.

Michiel1989630d ago

not everyone played during the ps3 era. I started during snes era but loved seeing articles/videos about how gaming evolved before that.

i dont think this article is trying to push you to get that patreon sub, it doesnt for me at least. I dont think theres anything wrong putting an ad at the bottom of the article. all the regular DF videos are free already.

SonyStyled631d ago

Wipeout HD on PS3, a remake of the PS1 game was 1080p 60fps. And that released in 2007-08

Christopher631d ago

This really feels like a filler article. I don't feel like I learned anything notable or substantial from this. I feel they could have reduced the unnecessary intro and over-explanation of things and put the whole series in one article for a more substantial and possibly informative piece rather than piece-mealing it out as they have.

dumahim631d ago

It's more about the video. DF Retro videos are for Patreon members first, and I think the whole thing was one big video. For the youtube channel, it gets chopped up and released weekly.

ApocalypseShadow630d ago

Chris is actually right on this one. Something known already was just kind of washed over in the article. Unless you're supposed to get more in the video. If more is in the video, then more could have been said in the article.

Only thing I learned new was that they are selling a subscription. My point though is that you gain more viewers by having better articles and content.

I think the crash mode should comeback. Tryng to make the most damage was very cool.

camel_toad993d ago

That mode was so damn fun. Couldn't believe it when they ditched it.

Flewid638993d ago (Edited 993d ago )

Agreed.

Flewid638993d ago (Edited 993d ago )

Yeah that made for a good time.

Rebel_Scum993d ago

Burnout 2 should be above 3 imo. The aftertouch takedown mechanic slowed down the gameplay too much in 3.

Flewid638993d ago

That's the mechanic that made me enjoy Burnout 3 over the others. It wasn't until they introduced it that I considered the series any good.

Chocoburger993d ago

I love Takedown, Revenge, and Paradise. Dominator was okay, but it clearly felt like a B-tier game.

After playing those awesome games, I went back to try out part 1 and it was rough. I didn't like the controls (whereas the others felt perfect to me), the elevator music was generic and not enjoyable to listen to.

Finally the game's difficulty was extremely high. I could beat all single player races in Takedown, Revenge, Paradise, Dominator, but could not get first place in the very first race for the first Burnout game. It demands perfection and one slight mistake is all it takes to lose. I have yet to play part 2, but I'm hoping it's more like part 3 than part 1.

ChasterMies993d ago

Burnout Takedown is my favorite racing game of all time. My wife was addicted to crash mode.

Xenial993d ago

As soon as I saw Burnout 3: Takedown at #1, I knew the list was legit. lol
