IGN: Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2009 Review

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2009 incorporates aspects of the hunting, adventure and first-person shooter genre, but doesn't do any of it particularly well. It doesn't require any strategy to hunt down your prey, and once you have located your target you shouldn't have any trouble taking it down with a well-placed shot or two, and those facts conspire to make the hunting experience entirely un-gratifying. The adventure aspects of the game don't require any strategy or problem solving either, acting instead as stilted interludes used to fill the space between point-and-shoot hunts. While this game has some fun novelty appeal, it has very little lasting appeal and is definitely a better rental than purchase.

I'd rather play this then a Bioshock port. This game has potential for GOTY.

Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2011 is about more than just shooting animals

Activision is apparently putting a lot of production value into this latest Cabela's title, tapping Brad Santos, screenwriter and creative director, to pen the tale of Cole Rainsford, who has joined his estranged father in the African safari to hunt dangerous animals terrorizing local villages there. See, kids? Hunting is a noble pursuit.

GamesRadar: Cabela's Dangerous Hunts 2009 Review

Sadly, Cabela's 2009 is a mess overall. Tracking in Hunter Sense is way too difficult because trails are tricky to find; the mission structure is disjointed; and the graphics are rougher than a bear's bum. Best leave this one out in the wilderness.

You'll love:
* Has an actual storyline
* Punching lions
* Animal attack set pieces

You'll hate:
* Possibly the ugliest next-gen game
* Restricted exploration
* Corny mission goals
