IGN Armored Core 4 Review

Ign reviews the latest game in the armoured core series, armoured core 4.

The easiest way for Greg Miller to sum up playing Armored Core 4 - if you'll allow me to blow the dust off of an old cliché - is to call it an emotional rollercoaster ride.

And that's not in a good way.

You boot up the Sega title and get an awesome intro movie featuring gorgeous visuals and start the game with some super-high expectations, but instead of mind-blowing mech combat, you're treated to missions involving limited movement and boring objectives. If you can outlast the bucketfuls of lame missions - shoot those things out of the air as they whiz by! - you'll get a few cool seek-and-destroy outings, but then you'll boot up online multiplayer and get a dose of inadequate arenas mixed with fun friend fragging.

It's enough to make you queasy when the ride ends and you turn off your PS3.

Shyt on both consoles. Just as everyone suspected. 59.99 well saved dollars.

i'm thinking i might still picked this up... a bunch of the conplaints are similiar to chromehounds but I that game was good. This game should be simply slightly faster paced... I already have it paid off, so its kind of a tough call...

Once again it proves, CGI does not a good game make.

I couldn't believe my eyes when i watched the trailer on XBL the other day. I wouldn't buy this game; hell! you couldn't give it to me. So far; oddly enough! Lost Planet has the makings of the perfect(best) balance of arcade and SIM hybrid bliss to the Mech gameplay this generation. I hope we see some faster VS's with more capabilites yet still grounded and believable Mechs in Lost Planet 2!. Although LP in the end did get all FF on us i still haven't bothered with finishing single player.

hahahah wow, and mechs in general are huh?

highps36239d ago

Youd think Robots who can think for themselves would figure out how to go faster than 2mph..

More companies need to make fast mechs.

The fact that this game got a 5.9 is pathetic. Its obvious that game reviewers have gotten completely out of hand and played WAY to may games..

They are so critical on EVERY game its pointless to go by them.

It looks cool to me im checking it out.

Eurogamer gave AC4 an 8. Would read their reviews any day over IGN's anyway. This game is no Chromehounds and I believe it is not trying to be. Its more like Zone of Enders which was ace for its time. Besides online play should make it a blast as no one mech is going to be alike.
Reason for low score is its not everybodies cup of tea really, not mainstream enough to appeal to every dikk and harry.

Top 10 FromSoftware Bosses

Bit Cultures writes: "FromSoftware games are known for being extremely difficult. Games like Dark Souls and Bloodborne are punishing and made me want to hurl my controller against the wall more than once. So why bother playing them? Simply put, From Software games have the greatest bosses in any video game. Period. From their design, to their lore, to the degree of difficulty, no game does as good a job at creating such unique, terrifying, and eventually joyous experiences. It wasn’t easy to narrow down, but here are our Top 10 FromSoftware bosses."

Where the heck is Gehrman? That should be at least in top 3.

My top Five...

5- Artorias
4- Gywn
3- Ornestein and Smough
2- False King Allant
1- Gehrman

ShadowKnight3013d ago

When the last boss transforms into another beast I was like are you kiddin me.

DarkOcelet3013d ago

I assume you are talking about Ornestein and Smough, yeah. All hell breaks loose when that happens.

It was one of the best Boss fights in history. Dark Souls is a God damn Masterpiece.

UltraNova3012d ago (Edited 3012d ago )

1. Ornestein and Smough - King Vendrick, NO Giants Souls.
2. False King Allant
3. Artorias
4. Black Dragon Kalameet.
5. Manus

ShadowKnight3013d ago

Yup and the last boss in Bloodborne was difficult for me too. Eventually beat him though

Jughead34163013d ago

1. Ebrietas, Daughter of the Cosmos
2. Ornestein & Smough
3. Queen Qaalag
4. Gehrman
5. Gravelord Nito

I think you can almost randomly select your favorite bosses. Almost all of them are epic, along with the journey to get to them. Finally unlocking the shortcuts to them, or finding a nearby bonfire was almost as satisfying as beating them.
