Speaking to VideoGamer.com at last week's Develop conference in Brighton, Rare senior software engineer Nick Burton hit out at reports suggesting Xbox 360 launch titles Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero bombed at retail.
"One of the things that I always find funny is when people always quote Kameo and Perfect Dark Zero as being flops at the launch of the 360," said Burton. "In the industry if you break even you're lucky, you're in the minority. If you make a decent amount of money you're really in the minority. You're in the top percentile. Those two games made a lot of money. For the install base they sold phenomenally well. Kameo is still selling now."
Perfect Dark Zero launched alongside the Xbox 360 back in 2005, to much criticism. 18 years later, is it worth another look?
Perfect Dark Zero was the first game that I purchased for my XBOX 360. I still have the game in my collection. I think I played it for about 45 minutes in total over the past 18 years. It's a really bad game, and I was so disappointed when I first fired it up almost 20 years ago.
I had fun with the mutiplayer. Didnt feel like Perfect Dark, but still had some fun with it
Kameo: Elements of Power arrived as an Xbox 360 launch title. It didn't reinvent the wheel, but deserves more respect than you might think.
There was a sequel in the works but got canceled because of the Kinect......
I doubt we'll see a follow up.
Wasn't a fan.
I give it another try every few years, but it always falls flat for me.
I remember following this game when it was a N64/GCN game. By the time it came out I didn't even care anymore. It spanned 4 consoles by the time it finally released. It was ridiculous. lol
Paul writes: "Come with me down memory lane while I cast my mind back to a time when the world was a much shinier, much more hopeful place than the one we see today, with the elemental good times of Kameo: Elements of Power."
I remember when they showed off some of the original footage when this was being developed for the GameCube... before Rare went to Microsoft and then delayed for development and launch on the 360. You had to catch the beasts, looked great. Enjoyed it very much when it launched.
Kameo was an excellent game. I still remember saying wow when I first tried the game on my first HD tv.
Perfect Dark Zero is another story it was just boring. Thankfully I traded it for Condemned a few days after purchase.
They are both excellent games. Great graphics too.
If you can find them both for cheap... Well.. I really wouldn't pass if I was you.
thats because there werent really anything else to check out at launch.
Kameo was my first 360 game, and is still a personal favorite. I still play it every once in a while. Very underrated game.
PDZero, on the other hand, may have sold well, but it's an average game, at best. It's not so much that it's a bad game, it's just not terribly good, either.
your point being???
