dude its coming. And soon, they wouldn't of posted a official if not.

The real question is what will remain in the ingame XMB,

1)You don't need Internet to browse while playing games,
2)You don't need to look at the PS Store while in game
3)The Settings is a plus but do we really need to check network connections during in game? I can see this actually creating probs.
4)do we need to change users while in game...
5) no mention of a playlist option...
6) "voice chat" was in "their concept" I doubt it will make it unfortunately. He would of mentioned that for sure since that itself would be the biggest feature.
7) in game switching to other titles is a plus, but we all know that some people are going to $%@# over their save files while the HDD indicator light is blinking.

Also Home Beta users are probably going to get a huge update with game launching actually working flawlessly. I have a feeling that is why 2.4 took so long.

And what the heck, WHY IS THIS UPDATE A 2.4 IT DESERVES A WHOLE NUMBER. 3.0 being it's the biggest firmware update yet. Its also huge enough to warrant a larger number based on specs and improvements.

Unless Sony is saving the 3.0 title for "home" launching....

Dude say all the smack while you can. Once "Home" hits which happens to have all of those features plus REMOTE PLAY. I think you will cancel your Live account definitely then. Heck Microsoft might have to make Xbox Live Free just to keep the subscriptions of all the multi-console owners active.

I know alot of you fanboys were just soooo ecstatic to hear that the ps3 was finally catching up(sorta) to the 360...but wait wait wait...did you hear...You have to TURN OFF THE GAMES MUSIC to listen to your own music. HAHAHA leave it to sony to find some broke way to fix something j/k. But in my eyes the 360 has the still better online service. Even though cross game messaging is cool the 360 has alot more(cross game invites, cross game chat, UNIFIED SYSTEM, etc). Does it warrant $50 a YEAR, well that up to you. With the addition of 2.40's in-game text massaging you will be able to send in-game and cross-game invites. I say this because the PS3 uses it's own massaging system for invites so they come to you like a standard message and you just have to click accept invite. Now with being able to access these messages in-game you will be able to see the invite and then accept. Of course, like all other games, even on the 360, you will have to quit your current game and insert the new game then accept the invite but they are cross-game no less.

Sorry, but once 2.40 hits, paying 50 bucks a year for Live will be without excuse. I play the PS3 and the 360 online all the time and to be honest, depending ont he game, they both are about the same in terms of lag and playability. COD4 plays exactly the same. UTIII is fast and furious, GT5:P is amazingly lag free and has 16 cars on the track. When the dev does what they need to do to make the online work, you get a flawless experience on the PSN and all for free.

Paying for an online gaming service has been silly for years as it has always been free on the PC and now that it is free on the PS3, there is little to no excuse as to why MS can't go with a free service.

And as for you having only a PS3... For some reason I have to say I doubt that...

While i only have a ps3, i'm very happy about this. But to see sony fanboy go apesht about this and say "sad to see people pay for online" is just ridiculous. Ps3 maybe be catching up but it is still a LOOONG shot from Live. Live has GUARANTEED:Crossgame messaging, Crossgame invites, Crossgame chat, MSN, Video messaging, Ingame music, Crossgame invites, UNIFIED ONLINE, Achievements, etc. As for the ps3... nothing is guaranteed. Its more of a crap shoot, you might get this feature with this game but not with that game. Just look at MGO...sad. This is a step in the right direction for sony but they have a lot more steps to take before you fanboys start claiming superiority

what i find hillarious about this is that everybody is so exited about this considering the xbox 360 has had these features right out of the box from day one and was out one year earlier and on top of that supposedly rushed to market aswell.

lol, concept means that it's still undergoing its look it doesn't mean it isn't coming out.

Concept: an idea of something formed by mentally combining all its characteristics or particulars; a construct.

Developers will have artist that will make concept art as a rough draft for the final version. This is just giving us an idea of what it will be. So when released it might look different because it isn't the final version yet. With concept art it doesn't mean a certain character in a game won't be there but just might not look like that on the last stages.

In other words "concept" is another world for rough draft to give people an idea of the final vision.

I love it! The in game XMB is so comprehensive, not a mini version, or a side bar... the whole f*ckin deal, and for the fair price of $0.00. All in the same summer that we get the movie store on PSN. It's gonna be an increasingly difficult task to argue PSN isn't the best online experience for the best price (or lack there of).

Amen, I remember saying that when I first played Warhawk.

In game text are going to make for better clan options, which only a few titles has it from the get go i.e. rainbow 6 las vegas.

Also the ability to play with the setting with a blue tooth mic will also smooth things out. I can finally tell people in COd4 to fix thier EFFING "Wal-mart Special" Mic.

But i'd assume now that the in-game xmb framework is layed down, it'll be in one of the future updates.

Private 1 on 1 chat AND Voice Messages are the next big things.

reading down through the comments section in some past FW updates rumored that initial in-game XMB would simply have the basic messaging features in tact...although it is still unknown on what happens when selecting 'start chat' from the friends area of the xmb in game...most likely with 2.40 it will quit you out of a game...but will be changed later on...same with unified invites...

oh well though imo...most people on my list seem to use keyboards for messaging, and if you don't...you should (how much is a standard USB keyboard?)...this simplifies so many things its unreal...it also totally destroys whatever Konami forced with MGO (assuming your friends' used the same game id as psn avatar for MGO)..

the music seems awesome too...I could have waited for that some more, but I know a lot of people wanted it badly...I may end up using it a lot more than I may have thought too...

being able to listen to what ever you want is great you can listen to everything from rick james yo richie havens or who ever the hell else you can think of it makes the experience more close to you

onto my ps3 from my psp or ipod compared to my 360. I tried adding tracks from my ipod and it doesnt show up on my screen. Only thing I know what to do with my 360 to add music to my 360 is rip music from cd's. If anyone can show me a tutorial which shows me how to add music from my ipod and psp to my 360 would be much appreciated. :)

Ok whats tha big fuss about here guys...? This update will be nice, but there is still no in game private chat.... still not able to send invites to your friends while in game through XMB..... all you really can do is switch games without going back to main screen... wow, and send and receive messages. These things shouldve been possible since day 1.
Im just mainly interested in tha trophies.

Plus, all tha Sony fanboys here, talking about "this is why PS3 is tha s**t", I have both systems, and PS3 is mainly for my Blu-Ray movies, and media.... Xbox 360 for gaming, but anyway.... 360 can do this stuff already... how does that make PS3 any better? Oh , cuz its free, and lacking a lot of other stuff 360 already does, and good games. MGS4, and Killzone 2 and R2 and LBP, arent going to save a system that gets crappy ports, but I do love my MGS4 tho!!!!

Chances are you're right but they haven't revealed all yet.

considering it is free, that is something to celebrate. Live is $50 a year, so that is almost the price of a game. Also, why is the 360 a gaming machine, and not the PS3? If that were true, why is MS already planning the next system?..With Wi-Fi, maybe Bluray, and other stuff? That is all things that the PS3 ALREADY has; yet, we only had to pay once, while 360 owners have to pay for two systems. Plus, the cost of Live for 360 owners since launch would be (if new system indeed is released 2010/2011) $50 times 6. Thats another $300 plus the costs of the two systems. To have what SONY has. Yes, SONY didn't give it to us since day one, but we have pleanty of other stuff. For less money, and pleanty of games for us "true" gamers.

You named basically two features that is missing from the upcoming 2.4 firmware and you say it like it's not a big deal? You're making a big deal out of 2 simple features that you have to pay 50 bucks a year else where to have (right now). What i say goes farther beyond just what you're implying. Playing online should be FREE, i'm sure you pay bills already like the internet bill for instance. Don't you pay the bill for internet service? Am i right? Didn't you pay a few hundred bucks for your systems? Didn't you plunk down 60+ bucks for your games? Then why o why do you have to pay an additional 50 dollars just to connect with people who have the same game as you and have internet just like you and with the same system? This is the point that always get me.

For me it's not so much about the features Live vs PSN as it is in just dues in my opinion. If PSN can come up to snuff then maybe MS will drop it's price down for Live Gold or treat it's silver subscribers better. With most of my play-time taking place after midnight in a pitch-black living room, I can't exaggerate how this feature was sorely, desperately prayed for.

I actually got into the habit of turning off my FTA receiver just so the panel would display the clock and allow me to keep a tab on how painful getting up for the fast-approaching, sleep-deprived early morning is going to feel.

What suprised me is that its full XMB, ingame from what we can see. I know alot of people were speculating that it would only be chat and/or music and or friends list. Alot of higher functions such as web browser, video chat, movies will probably prompt you to quit the game your playing, but its all there, all at your finger tips. And the google search bar is great. So is the game switching.

THIS right here, THIS is why we wait. Because when sony do release their sh*t, its some gooooood sh*t. It pays to have some patience guys. Maybe we can learn that, and stop crying about Home being delayed? Please?

I officially do not care if the firmware ever gets updated again after this. Bring the games.

xbox live cost .14 cents a day or .98 cents a week. For me, that really not that much to ask for what xbox live provides. Did you read my post KingME? It seems like you didn't so let me refresh some things for you.

The PSN being free is a fact. The PS3 costing more than the 360 out of the box is also a fact. So there shouldn't be any restrictions imposed on stating either of them. But the kicker is that the reason many people are willing to shell out the extra money to buy the PS3 was because they were looking for a product that would be, for the most part, future proof. Why? Because it has a lower rate of failure, is packaged with an internal HDD, a Blue-Ray drive, bluetooth, HDMI, etc. I'm not calling the PS3 a surefire step above the 360, I'm just saying that it's reasonable to assume that the PS3's lifespan will surpass the 360's, hence a bigger bang for your buck.

As far as I'm concerned, paying $50 for a service every year isn't future proofing anything. All it's doing is paying for a service that is here and now. You might argue that the subscription fees also pay for the updates on Live, but I've never paid to use the PSN, and it's continually being updated.

You also argue that Live trumps the PS3 in the area of quality, feel, and integration. The only area in which I can see your point is with integration and that's only slightly. Sure, Live also offers a wider assortment of content, but I'd argue that it has more to do with quantity than quality. It's also because of this huge quantity that Live has become stifled in the areas of integration and feel. It's cluttered and overcrowded. In a way, the ease with which Live can be navigated has deteriorated since it's launch. But I guess we shouldn't even be discussing this since like you yourself said, "it's a matter of preference".

Sure, the PS3 today isn't the same as the PS3 on day one. It would've been fantastic for Sony to have included these features out of the box, but I can't argue with their progress. It's been slow, but it's also been free. So don't mind me if I'm excited about seeing their promises come to fruition without emptying my pockets via a subscription.

Next time, I suggest that when you reply to someone, you relate your thoughts to that person's specific post.

the messaging was never the important thing to me personally just the ability to invite people into your game which would take some type of system that works the same way in all games thats controlled by sony, not left up to each dev. Looks like we may have to get on the blogs again;)

A cut down version may have been more appropriate as the less needed features should of been available on prompt. Seems a touch messy at the moment but with every update comes new features and improvements on the old ones so Ill continue to be patient whilst voicing my views and desires

just a thought. Maybe over time sony will allow us to customise how much of the igxmb we would have access to using a simple tick box feature in the settings menu. Less clutter ie i would not want the user, video or the photo line and things that cant be used within the remaining lines should not appear. Im sure sony will work it all out with a little push

This is just what I wanted to be implemented on my PS3. I just hope that when it gets released that it is (truly) bug free, because if it bricks some systems there will be some angry PS3 owners out there. I hope that the memory usage is kept to a minimum so that developers can still continue to utilize the proper system resources for games.

I showed this to my friend, and he asked me why 360 owners are still paying for Live. I wasn't quite sure what to tell him other than it's why I don't have LIVE on my own 360 as of yet. Either way, THANK YOU SONY! What's even better is we now get a clock in-game. I never thought it was that big of a deal, but now that we will have it, I am thankful that it's there.

I'm speculating that firmware 2.40 will be available sometime this week or early next. I notice that the third update for Burnout Paradise (Cagney) can be downloaded on 10th July, what's more one of the new features for the PS3 version is custom soundtrack support. So it may have something to do with this firmware.

Hmm.. so steal? Hmm... from what I can remember, the Wii and the PS3 both have different "motion sensing" technologies hence why Nintendo can't sue them for it. The motion sensing "controller" was developed by someone at Acclaim which Nintendo then "borrowed" and which is why it's currently being fought in court. The first controller design had nothing to do with motion sensing. lol... it was more of keeping the more "ergonomic" familiar controls from the previous consoles (because of constant complaints from the PS community).
As far as I know, I don't think ANYONE has implemented XMB ANYWHERE. It's Sony made and Sony perfected. Crappy system? I own Wii, 360, and PS3; the easiest navigational and configuration interface goes to the XMB. Crappy system stole from Sega? The Playstation 1 was a CONCEPT for Nintendo's new system AFTER the SNES. But because Nintendo decided not to pursue optical disc storage as their next medium in games and continue using cartridges, Sony decided to take the idea and release it. lol. You should seriously Google before coming in here and looking stupid. If I remember correctly, I think the PlayStation is the reason why Sega is no longer making consoles... so stealing from Sega is false. But enough XBL trashing. Their service is $50/year which is about 14 cents per day. I know people who are on a few hours everyday. It's pretty cheap, and it's a decent value. You pay a lot more and get a lot less in some of your other daily expenses. It certainly is valid to compare costs, but the cost is so minimal that it's the lowest factor, to me, when comparing XBL to PSN.

lol, pretty sure HDMI was around before ps3. it's just a connector. and it's been on digital cable boxes and dvd players since before ps3 was announced.

microsoft pioneered the online community. sony realized achievements were killing their business so they stole that. then they realize their whole dashboard was just inferior. instead of coming up with original ideas, they just took more stuff from microsoft. they also stole the placement of the triggers, and having the botton in the middle of the controller.

And I hate how they had that comment with the headset. If you don't have it programmed in, you'd obviously have to go and set it up. It's bluetooth and all other devices work the same. But if you do have it programmed and established on your PS3 than all you have to do is pit the headset on.

And I'm pretty sure in-game xmb will be there from the get go. The concept that he mentions had to do with the music, since games will probably have to release a patch to get everything to sync perfectly so you don't have your music and the games music playing at the same time sounding stupid.

I love my Sony PS3 and this is the reason why.........Its the only system out thats gets better with age....its like a rare fine bottle of Wine or Scotch..

..I really do not care that much about in-game chat and so forth...Its good to see some of the features that has made LIVE a pretty good experience flow down to my PS3.

But most importantly I would like to see some innovative features that Live does not have..Trophies are cool but give me something a little cooler..

For example: Use the power of the CELL and give me the ability to play two games at one time split screen.. If I have a PSN game on my HD and a Blu-ray Disc I can set up both games split screen and go between each game at any time.(no practical use but would be cool)

I truly appreciate Sony wiliness to embrace its consumer with what they want. But I am a little greedy I want some WTF features...
