Quad SLI vs. 3-Way SLI

Sometimes, less is more. Sadly, that may be the case for Quad SLI.

Nvidia launched its highly anticipated GeForce 9800 GX2 GPU model back in March, and many had high hopes for the technology. Designed to compete with ATI's Radeon HD3870 X2, which put ATI's CrossFire scheme on a single graphics card, Nvidia new product essentially combined two 8800 GTS GPUs on a single card. Therefore, two 9800 GX2 cards would give a system the long awaited and almost mythical power of Quad SLI – but for real this time.

That day has arrived, but the results are once again not what many had expected, including Tom's Hardware. They recently received another monster gaming rig from Falcon Northwest – a Mach V Quad SLI system, to be exact, that came with two Nvidia 9800 GX2 cards. Needless to say, Tom's Hardware were eager to see how a Quad SLI system performed compared to a 3-way SLI scheme, which has produced somewhat mixed results since its debut.

No Crysis benchmarks? Apart from 3dmarks that's the sucker everyone wants to know.

lsujester5794d ago

True. Kind of interesting why they didn't test Crysis, as it's prolly the only reason I'd ever buy such a expensive setup.

Wonder if beta drivers or something were giving Crysis fits? Would make sense.

SaiyanFury5794d ago

Man this is getting nuts. Now it's quad-SLI? I run 2 7950GTs (soon to be upgraded) in SLI and it doesn't me well for the most part. I guess there's always some foaming at the mouth upgrade junkie that just has to have it. :P

ropelli905794d ago

lol at the picture... i thought we were heading for smaller computers and stuff... i guess not...

poopface15794d ago

Is that even close to neccesary? Is crysis really that important.

funkeystu5794d ago

not at all - a much cheaper pc will do the job just fine and make crysis look heaps prettier than any other game out there. These set-ups are really just for the enthusiasts; kind of like expensive cars - they'll go faster but you'll pay for it.

reccodog5793d ago

Vista could be the problem too. The OS could be taking to much memory there for not reaching ultimate FPS. I could be wrong too. They did say that the 9800 with quad sli had more memory.

TMNT Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Well, this is neat. As the name suggests, Wrath of the Mutants is the rarest of things – a genuine arcade conversion. With most modern arcade games being ticket redemption machines, this is something seldom seen. In fact, the last arcade conversion we can recall was Raw Thrill’s own Cruis’n’ Blast on Switch back in 2021. This is also based on an older iteration of TMNT, harking back to the series from 2012-2017. It’s essentially breaking franchise continuity (we’ve had two different iterations of the Turtles since) and could even be considered nostalgic for a select few – those who grew up with 2012’s Turtles are probably in their late teens."

It must be frustrating for these devs to see Helldivers 2 absolutely devour their lunch lol

VenomUK26m ago(Edited 17m ago)

-Oh my God, this game looks like a complete rip-off of Helldivers II!

-At least it gives Xbox players the chance to experience something similar to the PlayStation game!

Jokes aside it does make you wonder why Sony, who owns the IP for both, is continuing with two products when there is such overlap. Should it one day make a new Starship Troopers film or a Helldivers film instead?
