Tales of RPGs Are Growing In The West Says Bandai Namco

At Bandai Namco’s Global Gamer’s Day event, Siliconera spoke with product manager Dennis Lee about the reception of the Tales of series of RPGs in the West. Namco have begun to bring these games over fairly regularly now, and have committed to trying to grow the franchise in the West. Lee said this was entirely because of communication with the series’ fans.

very good news!

PlayStation & Nintendo the champions of JRPGs

NewMonday3652d ago

Namco should do a world wide release of the games in the future.

Magicite3652d ago

Tales are one of my most favourite JRPG franchies.
Namco Bandai rocks and is a promising Japanese game developer/publisher.

AceBlazer133652d ago

And I'm happy for it.I'm pissed I didn't know about the series sooner. Best part of Tales games are that the combat is always fun. You don't get annoyed by encounters.

Hope the series gets bigger and I hope I see a PS4 Tales game soon.

Siliconera are moving - to new servers - show the article's not showing up.

As far as subject though, has all to do with how starved RPG fans have become on consoles. How somehow the likes of Bandai thought that the genre wasn't good enough, because they tried supporting the 360 over the PS3, and most of the fan base didn't take the bait. Especially in Japan after Bandai themselves turned early tales of releases into beta versions.

Would like to see the genre improve in terms of mechanics for the PS4, show up on the XB1, but really, like with 7th gen releases they're just going to be PS2 with improved graphics. Realtime.

Inception3652d ago (Edited 3652d ago )

I checked the link and it still works

About next gen Tales, Tales series never focused on graphic. If you think they will change it into more realistic style like FF or The Witcher than i'll suggest you to forget it. Because they already tried with Tales of Hearts on NDS. There's two version of Hearts, one with realistic 3D CG like FF and the other is 2D anime. The result is 2D anime sold more than the CG version.

And i don't think Bamco will try another Tales for Xbox. They already tried with Vesperia for 360 and it doesn't sell well even in japan. The only platform they will release the next Tales are PS3, PS4, WiiU, 3DS, Vita, and mobile.

FF has a nice balance of being realistic and anime-ish graphically Imo.

plmkoh3652d ago

What planet are Bandai Namco living on, there has always been demand for 'Tales of' titles but people can't buy them if they don't localise them.

Well at least, they are now turning things around and realising, better late then never. Certainly can't say the same about SEGA whom are too busy crying over milk not yet spilt.

Inception3652d ago

I think the main problem began when Namco wanted to localized Tales of Eternia but they must changed the title to Destiny 2, because Eternia name already licensed by Mattel. The side effect is Namco not localize the real Destiny 2 because they already localized Eternia as Destiny 2.

Since than, Namco not so hot on localizing Tales because they don't want to meet another case like Eternia.

But i think that problem already solved. Right now, before making a new Tales, Namco always registered tons of new names so they don't meet case like Eternia again.

Also, they trying to shorten the gap between japan and english released. So, now it's our turn to support their games ^^

plmkoh3652d ago

Well Eternia/Destiny/Phantasia those games were from an age where I can understand why a company would not think about localisation.

But nowadays, with the internet/social media/videos/digital downloads it's perfectly acceptable for new audiences to be exposed to games from different regions. There is truly no excuse for not localising something as there are many ways to deliver games.

But yeah Bandai Namco have been a bit better finally releasing the games. All they need now is to put in dual-audio and it's perfect.

I love tales games glad the west is getting more jrpgs!

Tekken 8 Mods Website Receives Infringement Notice From Bandai Namco

A popular Tekken 8 mods website has received a notice of infringement from Bandai Namco, but they're fighting back for the players.

Terry_B12d ago

What Namco is doing here totally sucks.

H912d ago

Namco is even attacking Tekken 7 mod videos

PRIMORDUS12d ago (Edited 12d ago )

I torrented the game on PC, and now will post the link right on their twitter account ripping them a new asshole and then say now you can't do shit LOL. Leave modders alone. Sooner or later the way the industry is going I will not buy anything anymore, and just take what I want. I'm buying very little now, as it is. The future does not look good at all.

KwietStorm_BLM11d ago

Daaamn they won't know what to do with themselves

PRIMORDUS11d ago

Nope LOL. The game industry is going to get worse before it gets better. Actually I don't even think it will get better which is the sad part. Even if Bandai does not see that link, by me posting it I can influence people who don't know much about torrenting can now maybe get interested and learn about it. 😁

DivineHand12511d ago

Don't do anything to put yourself at risk.

PRIMORDUS10d ago

But I do this often, 😁 I'm sure companies must be pissed because they know they are helpless with taking down torrents, and maybe I can teach some people how to do it by posting links, they might take an interest LOL

KwietStorm_BLM9d ago

Oh you thought I was being serious. My apologies.

CrimsonWing6912d ago

Why are publishers cracking down on mods all of a sudden? It’s like if you bought a coloring book and then drew over the art and made the art look like something popular. Are the coloring book companies going to pull this sh*t?

Why is industry going more and more full r*tard?

Skuletor11d ago

Why? Because they want to nickel and dime customers with cosmetic microtransactions. It's hard when the modders do a better job then them plus at no extra cost.

TriniOutsider11d ago

A lot of it has to do with copyright infringement. Something similar happened with Little Big Planet back in the day. Where Nintendo wanted created levels pulled from the game because people made almost full blown Mario Levels.

PRIMORDUS11d ago

Just take the games for free on PC. I'm having no respect lately for any game company. ID Software was the best in terms of modding they wanted you to mod their games, total conversions etc. Now we have shit.

CantThinkOfAUsername11d ago

Only a handful of publishers are pro-mods like Bethesda, CDPR, and Larian; the rest either don't care like Sony or anti-mods like Capcom and the extreme being Nintendo-level of BS.

Yi-Long11d ago

They want you to believe their nonsense about development cost being sky-high and taking weeks/months, and then you have unpaid folks who do this all for free as a community-service and just because they enjoy creating and sharing stuff, and they come out with gorgeous new outfits and skins etc etc, within days.

So free mods expose the BS these companies spout in order to justify their excessive greed.

DivineHand12511d ago

I believe this started with Tekken 7 when the Elden Ring mod came out. They were shocked by the quality and gave a warning to stop modding the game because people were coming at them asking how to get those characters in the game.

The modders will have to be strategic.

Absolute stupidity. The hell are they even thinking? Damn, this game was looking so good when it was about to launch. Now, it's just been downhill for everything since then.

TwoPicklesGood69d ago

So now they will focus on quality? lol

blackblades69d ago

To be fair, they the only ones. Square and other Japanese devs been lacking is quality for a long time and they made up for it in good games.

SilentZeroX68d ago

Capcom, Nintendo, and Atlus are far better than Bandai, and you can't really count FromSoftware as one of Bandai's studios.

blackblades68d ago

@silent yeah I know, i ment to put a few. Example square gives quality to FF, with SO and valkyrie nope. Koei quality been eh but there games are fun. Its not just Japanese though.

1Victor69d ago

Good let’s hope others follow them before the industry get too close to collapsing again.

-Foxtrot69d ago

Yeah…when they realised we’re not all massive suckers

Pepsi_Man300069d ago

Absolutely insane that quality wasn't already a focus

H969d ago

That's the most insane statement I have ever heard, it's basically saying "from now on we will try to make good games"

CrimsonWing6969d ago

I mean, why in the f*ck wasn’t this the priority from the get-go? Now that you see consumers aren’t going to swallow up your dribble for full price you have to make the announcement that you’re focused on making “quality” games now? What a joke.

jznrpg69d ago (Edited 69d ago )

Quality should always be the focus and that will get you $$$$. Though I have to say Bandai Namco has made some great games but some of their anime stuff could be better quality
