Star Citizen trailer shows off the Hornet and the power of 4k resolutions

pcgamesn: “We scale everything for the super high resolutions that will be the basis of tomorrow’s gaming experience; our assets are designed with high polycounts instead of having details baked into their textures,” write Roberts Space Industries in the blurb to their new trailer.

It sounds like a lot of marketing speak but they claim the video is “rendered 100% in-engine in real time at 4k resolution.” If that’s true and the graphics cards of the next few years can play a game looking this good then we’re in for a treat.

This on Oculus Rift is going to be an amazing experience. Cockpit gaming is perfect for Oculus, and this game is GORGEOUS.

Please take my money.

Too bad I'm probably going to have to Sli my 680 to get Ultra setting to run comfortably. Plus buy an Oculus Rift, and this game. Man, gaming is expensive.

Now granted I'm not impressed with the Asteroids. They just DO NOT look right. X-Rebirth has some crappy looking asteroids too.

Hopefully Nviida's Maxwell can render some better looking Asteroids. haha

Anvil Aerospace is good but Aegis Manufacturing is the way to go. The Anvil Hornet is NICE but the Aegis Retaliator can knock out Capitol Ships.

4k runs at 30-40fps in games even with a high end graphics card, that is the average framerate so it would dip even lower.. so yes, it would be unplayable to those used to 60+fps.

1080p and 1440p is still king for speed.

4k presents too many issues, first being if you want to drop to a lower resolution for more fps it is going to look awful because you're dropping so much from native.. in which case you are better off with a lower resolution screen to begin with running @ native resolution.

Check benchmarks of any games, even mid-high end graphics cards can only just hold a steady 60+fps in many games @ 1080p.
