GTA V Might Just Prove that We Don’t Need Next-Gen Right Now

CCC Says: "We are on the brink of the next generation of gaming. The hype surrounding the PS4 and Xbox One is palpable, and you can hardly get on the Internet without some sort of contact with “the future of gaming.” But, while progress is an expectation in any technological industry, a move forward is typically only born of necessity due to hardware bottlenecks and limitations. Look, I’m just as excited as the next guy about the dawn of next-gen, but I can’t help but ask–Is it necessary?"

Sure, we don't need next-gen right now. We just need games companies to gamble $265 million dollars on a single game.

Admittedly GTA V isn't really a gamble, but smaller IP's would be.

anyone who believes we truly begin with nex gen before fall 14 is deluding himself.
both ps4/xb1 have a pretty weak lineup so far.
also ,its no secret how most hardware/sofware faults occur in the first year

Depends on what you mean.

Next-gen console starts in a couple of months. In terms of getting a full slate of games out that aren't rushed, true that won't be until next year.

But in terms of raw graphics, PC had 'next gen' many years ago.

So it all depends on what qualifiers you use.

GTAV looks like it has great motion capture. Not to be surprised. It by far looks like the best aspect of their graphics.

But the actual graphics in the commercials are seriously lacking.

Plus if you notice, they don't look like 1024x600 resolution either.

So I would say, for old consoles, if it looked like in the commercials, it would be good for last generation graphics.

But it's pretty obvious we're being sold a bill of goods with them showing something running off a PC, and parading that around as 360/PS3 versions.

I'd buy a PS4 version, so I'll just wait for a PC version.

It's going to be real interesting to see the reviews of the actual gameplay on PS3/360. Everything seems too good to be true for what those consoles can do.

You do realise the resolution for standard TV is nowhere near the resolution of the game right? So no wonder it looks bad on commercials.

I think it looks impressive when you take into account its been made on current gen tech.

Release GTA5 on next gen consoles when re-write the article.

raresteak3870d ago

Of course we do.

No other game company transcends the laws of the industry's generations quite like Rockstar do and deliver on such an epic scale.

Rockstar need to learn that 12 years of work and 5000 employees doesn’t account for one persons opinion on the internet…

Oh and hundreds of millions of dollars in revanue to boot.

Lots of complaints about gta ever since the hd era started and yet it's bugger than its ever been with gta vi up to 180 million trailer views alone. The next game is shaping it be be another genre defining game

MetalGearsofWar32d ago

They already learned they dont have to actually make a great game

sagapo32d ago

The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.

Zhipp32d ago (Edited 32d ago )

I did accidentally beat someone to death a couple times. An unfortunate mistake but besides that I didn't have any problems with the controlls

jznrpg32d ago

Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games

Profchaos32d ago

I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
