Jet Set Radio Review (Modojo)

Chris Buffa (Modojo): Powerful iOS and Android devices give us the privilege of enjoying console games on the go, even classics from Sega's Dreamcast. It's important to remember, though, that just because a publisher can port these beloved titles to smartphones and tablets does not mean it should. At the moment, we can't think of a game that proves this point better than Jet Set Radio. Originally released in 2000 for the company's ill-fated system, the stylish graffiti-driven romp kick started the cell-shading phase, while its (at the time) outstanding soundtrack delighted players from the U.S. to Japan. Now it's gone mobile, and we really wish it hadn't.

They released this for iOS/Android? The over all movement/controls for this game can be stiff at times on a controller and to have this on a tablet I couldn't even imagine. Its a good game but on a tablet or phone I wouldn't even touch it.

I bought this last night, fully knowing what I was getting myself into but what the hey, it's a mobile Jet set radio for next to nothing. In case you were still wondering, yes, the controls are just as bad as you would imagine. Still a game with great style and all but being a frustratingly difficult, awkwardly controlled console game ported to a device known for making games hard to control it's like buying an instant frustration app.

Though I love my iPad, I do accept it's limitations. The touch screen is great for some genres, but fast action games espeasily ones in 3D isn't one of them. I was tempted to grab this but remembering how hard it was to control on the Dreamcast, I realized that this was going to be a beast to control on an iOS device. Had they offered the option to support external controllers, I would have been all over this game. But I've never known Sega to offer support for external controllers on any of their iOS games. I would have loved being able to play Sonic CD using the iCade as well as several of their other released classics, so it's a shame.

Game just oozed style. Even the games that tried to emulate it never really hit the mark, or nailed that "it" factor the series had.

Still bump the song 'Aisle 10' from time to time when getting up in the morning.

I hope it foots the bill for a jet set radio experience

Why Jet Set Radio Feels So Good to Master

Discussion surrounding Jet Set Radio has always been skewed. As revered and celebrated as this game is among fans of old-school Sega classics, the vast majority of the praise levied towards it revolves around its cel-shaded style, premise, and soundtrack.
