While gamers usually take notice of the mainline missions, these 5 side quests deserve more widespread attention for how entertaining they are.

... but what about games like SystemShock, DeusEx, Thief, Bioshock, & Stalker? A game which lets you tell your own story rather than walk you along one.
The characters reacting to some scripted environment cue is cool and all, but bringing back some complexity and choice might be a better indication of growing up.
Otherwise, TF2 has already done a pretty good job of giving characters a personality.
Some are, some are not.
