How First-Person Shooters are Growing Up

IGN:

Let’s face it, Master Chief has all the emotional range of a tin of paint. Whether hanging out on the bridge of a UNSC frigate or being sucked into the anus of an alien spaceship, he can be relied upon to deliver gruff, eye-rolling one-liners. Witnessing the slaughter of fellow soldiers, he breaks down and... briefly shakes his head, in the way one does about the lateness of buses, or teenagers who throw litter.

Ha Ha Ha I laugh at the title. They will grow up when Bioshock Infinite comes out. Dishonored is just a taste what Bioshock Infinite has in store for us I bet.

Saw it spelled out, and assumed it was third lol. My Mistake, mods may remove.

Was even in the process of reading the article and hadn't put it together yet.

... but what about games like SystemShock, DeusEx, Thief, Bioshock, & Stalker? A game which lets you tell your own story rather than walk you along one.

The characters reacting to some scripted environment cue is cool and all, but bringing back some complexity and choice might be a better indication of growing up.
Otherwise, TF2 has already done a pretty good job of giving characters a personality.
