John Carmack - QuakeArena not newbie friendly for consoles, RAGE native linux client could happen

DSOGaming writes: "Ah, the good old days of Quake 3. Those frantic deathmatches can’t be easily forgotten and a lot of gamers are currently enjoying them via Quake Live. However, it appears that some people wish for a next generation version of iD’s best multiplayer game. Well, we got some bad news as there won’t going to be one anytime soon. When a fan asked for a new Quake 3 game, John Carmack said that it would not happen."

Some things just can't be dumbed down.

SnakeCQC4374d ago

lol you serious? a shooter is a shooter is a shooter! no matter how much a washed up coder thinks its the early 90's

Play counter strike 1.6. You will rage quit then go back to your bullet sponge gaming sessions on ps3 or xbox & enjoy Death Streak Rewards.

SnakeCQC4374d ago

since when did battlefield 3 have any streak reward i have a ps3 a 360 and a pretty good pc pending a gtx 680 once one is made available at my local shop cs 1.6 has outdated visuals maybe and may have been fun one day long ago but right now there is so much good stuff right now whats the point

FriedGoat4374d ago

It doesn't matter about visuals. Quake 3 looks terrible now but is one of the best FPS of all time. Console fanboys would not be able to cope with the speed of the old PC Fps's not even mentioning strafe jumping.

kevnb4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

quake with a gamepad and auto-aim would be a joke.

john24374d ago

the sad thing here is that these statements basically mean that we won't get a new Quake Arena game :/

Ducky4374d ago

Question is whether a new Quake game is even necessary.
Aside from visuals, there's not a whole lot that can be changed without 'fan' backlash, so the best thing they can do is keep supporting the classic games, which is what QuakeLive attempts to do.

kevnb4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

they should though, make it pc exclusive and able to run on even low end hardware and they will have a huge hit. Quake arena with some updated graphics and flashy new maps would beat the hell out of anything multi platform.
Its sad how far things have gone backwards thanks to the success of halo, call of duty and some of its clones.

john24374d ago

Personally, I'd love to see a next-generation version of Quake 3. Same mechanics, upgraded graphics. This is how a next generation Quake 3 would look like ( http://n4g.com/news/871834/... ). But this is not going to happen. Still, it would be really cool

FriedGoat4374d ago (Edited 4374d ago )

Quake live is just quake 3 with broken netcode and no gore.

let's hope Epic games pc exclusive is UT4 on UE4. I won't sell like cod on consoles anyway.

This dude seems to only have 360 on his mind. Make it for PS3 and PC cross platform play. It's not like PS3 doesn't have mouse and keybored support. Promblem solved. Oh wait I forgot he's a crappy PS3 dev. If it doesn't easly translate between 360 and PC then he doesn't want anything to do with it.

Vynzent4372d ago

Making a game for PS3 becuz it supports keyboard and mouse is a stupid reason.

If you make it for PS3 then you'll get the 360 people angry and then the whole mess will get worse.

Skate-AK4372d ago

I clearly said make it for PS3 and PC. I'm not sure if 360 has keyboard support. If it doesn't then there should be no reason from them to complain if its something their console doesnt support. It would be like PS3 people complaining cause COD doesnt have party chat cause there is no cross game chat for PS3 which be equally as stupid.

mananimal4373d ago

all i want to know is...Where`s my Doom 4?, so i can take it & go back into my underground bunker & play it & never be seen again til Doom5.

Vynzent4372d ago

Lol I'll be fragging your ass! >:D

Doom4 will come around and I'll make you run out of your bunker enraged >:D

Lol I might be tired as I type this

Quake Games Ranked from Worst to Best

BLG writes, "Alongside the Wolfenstein and DOOM franchises, there are the Quake games. Known for fast-paced and insane multiplayer deathmatch action, there was a time Quake was best known for its single-player design.

That all changed as time passed (i.e., after Quake 3 Arena). Multiplayer deathmatches were never the same.

As other FPS games leaned more into improved narrative and storytelling, id Software delivered a genre-defining multiplayer experience.

Quake 3, and the iterations, will always be one of the best multiplayer series releases.
As far as campaigns, I think 1 and 4 are great, but that 2 was garbage.

Quake Champions was a joke on and didn't capitalize on much of anything that made the series great.
