CGM Reviews: Yoshi’s New Island

As all Super Nintendo aficionados know, one of the great underrated achievements of that sweet little system was Yoshi’s Island. Designed to look like drawings in a children’s book, it was one of the most beautiful 16-bit games ever produced and a nifty little unconventional platformer to boot. It never really took off as a franchise (just an uninspired N64 version and a decent DS edition), but remained beloved by those who care about such things. So it was with big dollops of excitement and stomach pains of anxiety that Nintendo fans reacted to the fact that the company would dust off the old franchise for a 3DS sequel. It was always a game crying out for a sequel and Nintendo is pretty good at the nostalgia gaming (sadly it’s pretty much all they do these days), but at the same time it was such a unique and beloved title it seems like the only thing the designers at Arzest could possibly do was screw it up.

Nope. Code of Princess and Yoshi's New Island aren't really that great at all. They are below-average. I wanted to like Code of Princess but from framerate to voice acting and terrible characters I couldn't come to like it one bit other than the gameplay can be challenging at times. Design wise it well down but the flaws hold it back a lot.

Yoshi's New Island is just boring and average. While the visual are very good for the art it used but the overused music and super easy where you beat the game in 2-7 hours.

A majority of the music in Xenoblade X basically ruined the game for me.

There was only one track in that game that could have even been considered bad, and that was just because it wasn't very long and had almost no variety in it. The rest of X's soundtrack was amazing.
