Mario Kart 8 dev cites F-Zero as influence, is hopeful for series’ return

Mario Kart 8 developers Hideki Konno and Kosuke Yabuki have shed light on how the game was influenced by F-Zero in a new interview, and have stressed that they’d like to see the anti-grav racing series return one day.

PopRocks3593948d ago

Yeah... the devs want it, the fans want it, Miyamoto wants it, there are freaking third party devs who want it, but the only ones who don't seem to want a new F-Zero is the higher-ups at Nintendo.

BosSSyndrome3948d ago

I don't think miyamoto wants it.

Concertoine3945d ago

he said he'd like to see it return, he just personally didn't know where to take the series

Myst3948d ago

They'll have to cave in sooner or later!

ChickeyCantor3948d ago (Edited 3948d ago )

Miyamoto said that they don't know how to evolve the franchise. And therefore have no intention on developing a new game.

Meanwhile introducing a catsuit in mario is so innovative that all Nintendo staff went home and had sex with their cat.

Getting so pissed off at Nintendo.

Just give it to Sega again...
Just create F-zero GX-2. 12 player online play( 30 would be great but eh... ) . Level editor and you practically have THÉ F-zero set for the next 10 years.

Dj7FairyTail3947d ago

Miyamoto wants it and Nintendo want it. Miyamoto just have no new ideas to make it fresh and new.

These graphics on MK8 are the most nextgen graphics at E3 FULL HD 60fps wow looking this good basically pixar,if you want to know what ps3 can do look at Sonic racing exactly not even close in graphics and 30 fps Hmmmm, let me add Stylized graphics not cartooney that would be BEN10 or Disney games ect Nintendo's style is for everyone not just kids they have the best stylized graphics out there and you need power to make there franchises look this good.

As weve seen ps3 ect try this type of graphic style before and it's just as hard to get these graphics as it is realistic, and vibrant colours use alot of memory.

Triforce0793948d ago

Dissagree all u want MK8 best graphics at e3 my opinion, that game took them stylized graphics to new levels unlike the realistic graphics like killzone ps4 looked worse than the ps3 tech demo years and years ago ??

ChickeyCantor3948d ago

You're trying too hard. Seriously just stop.

Concertoine3945d ago

i think instead of doing a full retail F-Zero release, (which we all know wouldn't sell well, only the snes game sold particularly well) they should release it as a budget title on the eshop for 15-20 bucks. get sega to do it, give it online, some good looking graphics then market the shit out of it and make a quick buck.

I want f zero inspired dlc for mariokart 8! F zero characters need a revamp also. They just are not that cool. Starfox has a similar problem... they where cool but they really need a new edge and make f zero free to play! Some one get these guys a copy of fast and furious or just put the rock in f zero lol damn!

Or better yet let Nintendo play project cars...

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

Ex-Nintendo designer says no new F-Zero due to Mario Kart, low sales & high costs

F-Zero has been a dormant franchise for a couple of decades now. In fact, if it weren’t for the obvious appearances that Captain Falcon has been making in Super Smash Bros. games, you could get the impression that Nintendo has forgotten all about the series.

Have a new F-Zero hit within the first 2 years of Switch 2 and watch it sell away.

Immagaiden296d ago

Can’t believe Nintendo chose a remaster for Cruise N Blast over F-Zero GX

GhostScholar296d ago

I wish they would see the license then.

Knightofelemia296d ago

Maybe Nintendo should learn to drop the prices on their games if they want more sales. I have seen games that are 4 years old on store shelves at full price.

Rockstar296d ago

I've had treasure tracker for the switch bookmarked since it was released waiting for the price to hit my sweet spot of 30 bucks...still waiting...

blackblades296d ago

We haven't seen a lot of franchise's from Nintendo. Mario will always stay as the shit stain of Nintendo. Mario games are fun and Kirby but some times you get tired of seeing Mario everywhere literally everywhere. They are playing it safe.
