I really hope this isn't true/gets fixed very quickly
Lionheart377  +   664d ago
I think it might be how the console is built, since IDs are also tied to consoles. So, it may not be something they can change.
iamnsuperman  +   664d ago
I hope that isn't true because what developer is now going to put there stuff onto their e-shop if it can be downloaded for free on used systems. Also this will not exactly give faith to consumers either

Looks like Nintendos first efforts at using online-anything is proving to be a very funny result. At least Sony fared better with PSN.

This is a pretty serious problem with console and userID integration, whilst with Sony you can deactivate your PSP/Vita/PS3 prior to selling it if need be, and in emergencies you can go to a site to deactivate consoles that you no longer own or possess and deactivate them from your PC if you still have your account username and password in your head.

This though? GIANT fucking loophole.
IAmLee  +   664d ago
I'll just wait a few years and buy a pre-owned one. FREE STUFF FTW.
farhad2k8  +   664d ago
FUCK YEAH!
I'll make sure it's packed with games on Ebay, should be good.
boybato  +   664d ago
So the one who purchased a brand new console loses his games(digitally downloaded) and the one who purchased a pre-owned console gets free games?

Truly a Next Gen Innovation.

kidding. lol
Godchild1020  +   664d ago
That is really fighting the used market.
krisq  +   664d ago
Yeah!
Nintendo should pantent this. :)

Isn't it the responsibility of the owner to wipe there account from the consoles before they trade it in or return it. The same is true for a smartphones, tablets etc.
grassyknoll  +   664d ago
The games are locked to the console, not an account, so another user can still redownload the old games.

Next gen

*fixed

This is why you don't tie the NN account to the freaking console. VERY bad move Nintendo. Maybe now that you will face a revenue issue you will look to tie the network account to the USER not the console.
MasterCornholio  +   664d ago
Cool i might as well wait a few years and then buy one used if this is true.
Tetsujin  +   664d ago
I'm scared of some name a person used on Nintendo; last thing I want is some name like Electric-Crayon69 or some BS like that. Other than that I'm down for a used console for free games.
esemce  +   664d ago
So if your console dies you lose all your purchased DLC games? lol Nintendo U so funny.
MasterCratosKong66  +   664d ago
nintendo recovers your purchases in the event of a console shutdown. this only affects people who sell consoles they dont want anymore
WeAreLegion  +   664d ago
I work at a second hand store. We are supposed to wipe the hard drive off of every video game system, external HDD, memory card, camera, and camcorder we take in.

You know... You could also do this with any other console. -_-
Waddy101  +   664d ago
No you can't, not unless your have the users ID and password because purchases are tied to a USER rather than the console itself like with Nintendo consoles.
Wiping the hard drive just removes the user data, the purchases will still be tied to that console so they will be able to be downloaded again for free.
Finally something that makes wiiU attractive!! I will buy a used one after 4 years!
1upgamer99  +   664d ago
I am not sure, but on my Wii, a bunch of my games were deleted by my partners son, and I just went to the E-shop and it said purchase for games I had not bought before and "downloadable" for games that had been erased and I had already bought So I just downloaded them again for free. Has Nintendo always just linked the console to the E-shop per Wii/Wii U? I never gave it much thought till this article. I was just glad I did not have to buy all of my Zelda games again. I remember when My IPod was erased like two weeks after I got my first one, a long time ago. I had like 100 songs on it already from the Itunes store. I called apple and they said tuff luck you should have backed them up!

Sony and MS plan to block used games & Nintendo is looking to give them away. Next Gen battle won!
3-4-5  +   664d ago
Real question.....Who the hell already returned their Wii U ?
LOL_WUT  +   664d ago
Maybe people who are waiting for the release of certain Nintendo characters either that or they didn't like the console. It shouldn't be too difficult to figure out.
claud3  +   664d ago
really need to get on top off this and fix it
ozzywazzy  +   664d ago
The Wii U suddenly became an attractive console.... after 2 years that is.
profgerbik  +   664d ago
Lol Nintendo.. They never think things through enough.. I mean they usually make the biggest mistakes when it comes to any consoles even their handhelds if you ask me.

This is my gripe practically, they just never take enough time with their systems. It seems like they always rush them out, just for sales or so their sales aren't really low due to other consoles being around.

Their window to release the Wii U isn't that big considering this year we probably will be hearing about better things hardware wise. So it's no surprise as always why at least to me it was pushed out when it was, not really ready.

This is pretty bad not horrible but still it shouldn't even have happened at all. They were already having trouble selling games for the system and this for sure isn't going to help.

I bet the people who get decked out used ones are really enjoying this fail feature.. lol..
PopRocks359  +   664d ago
This is one of those times where I simply can't defend Nintendo. They SHOULD have tied games to an account, not the damn console.
Shnazzyone  +   664d ago
who would trade in their wii u already?! Who the hell would be foolish enough to ditch that flat out incredible universal remote functionality?!
DivineAssault  +   664d ago
free games for a used wii u buyer? i dont think nintendo will like that very much.. Patch is incoming
Neonridr  +   664d ago
It's not hard to see that Nintendo will clearly change the Nintendo Network account to not be tied to the console in the future. It's something that can easily be patched and after things like this pop up, will clearly be fixed by Nintendo.

It's not the end of the world here guys. Just an error on Nintendo's part that can easily be fixed. Relax.

At least their consoles don't break down on their own (disregarding stupid users who turn off or unplug their systems while performing an update). I have never seen a Nintendo console suffer through a RROD or YLOD problem for no reason.
stage88  +   664d ago
This console is a disaster.
