When it doesn't block achievements/trophies, which is almost never. Uncharted 2 letting me buy a rocket launcher instantaneously and not penalizing me by blocking trophies was pretty sweet hehehe.
Honestly cheating as long as it doesnt affect others is fine IMO. As if it makes the game more fun for the end user I say why not? As at the end of the day we play games for fun and if they make it more fun then fair play to them.
I remember playing BattleTanx on the N64, and I had the immortality cheat enabled. I never made it past a bonus level that consisted in killing as much tanks as you could before you died, wave after wave. I had to quit because I got bored of not being able to move on....
Not only that, but cheat like those make completing tasks like Taxi missions more easily doable. Police were easy since I could just get an Apache and finish everybody off, but Taxi were a hassle since you might crash the car a lot to the point of exploding it.
Cheating enabled by the game devs (like GTA for example) is acceptable. Cheating, especially in MP online, is right down awful.
I also got that Pokemon cheat, infinite everything, shining Arceus and shit. It was fun for a couple of hours, then you realize there is no goal in the game since you have everything and can do everything. Those cheats are bad. But those that give you op stuff like in AOE? They're fun, and they're not game breaking.
Never, If you can't play and appreciate what someone worked years on then either stop playing or find a new hobby. It's annoying when gaming online and it's even more annoying when PC elitests have to change everything in a game for it to be "enjoyable".
Of course when a developer puts in a "cheats" menu or changing options like in GTA or Saints Row then it's fine because it's not really cheating but using a different option. The second you mod or use glitches to gain the advantage then it's not okay.
Mods and glitches aren't in the same category of what the person in the article is saying per se.
Although I agree cheating in which you glitch and mod for infinite anything is terrible in online experiences, I do not believe they are terrible in single player games that have no achievements or trophies because then you are only making the experience easier, and aren't gaining anything for it. (online achievements or leaderboards)
I sometimes use the Action Replay DS for Pokemon games, although I NEVER play online when I use it. It's only fun when you play locally with friends who have cheated themselves to have ultimate Pokemon battles with Wonder Guard and such.
even getting infinite everything in single player is terrible. If you need to make the game "easier" then you should play on a lower difficulty setting. You're ruining the experience of the game if you get infinite everything and the feeling you should get by finishing the game won't be the same as if you work toward the end and improve your skills to finish it. Cheating ruins games if you realize it or not.
Umm, mods aren't usually cheating and a lot of times developers provide mod tools with the game and instructions for them. Developers are usually just happy that people make mods as long as it doesn't involve cheating or piracy.
only acceptable when you press l d r r d l l d l sq triangle circle (command and conquer 1 cheat for ion cannon) seriously though cheats can be fun, BUT not when it comes to mulitplayer game cheats (that gives someone an advantage)
single player games, with no trophies thats acceptable
Speaking of cheating. Has anyone heard of Game Genie for PS3? It's a cheating tool that actually lets you cheat like the old days of last generation and forth.
What I want to know if that actually let's you get trophies. If it does, then THAT is exploiting cheats and should not be let allowed.

Ulimited Ammo/health fair enough but the flying car cheat, All pedestrians riot, all pedestrians want to kill you were great
