problem with the industry is if MS made something new and innovative it will sell 1/10 of halo. Sequels are all that is needed I guess always and forever.
Congrats to 343..Well deserved Been calling this record day for H4 all year, especially after the unveiling at E3.But, we will see if the game truly achieved the status set by it's predecessors when the real numbers are announced by MS.
This isn't some phoned-in play-by-the numbers sequel.
Microsoft went all in, put together what can be arguably stated as the best team ever assembled.
They gave them the resources and 343 delivered in ways that are unimaginable.
Halo is and has been the Star wars of gaming. People don't get it on the internet, but hen you show up at any midnight opening it's clear how passionate the fans are.
No hardcore exclusive game outside of Call of Duty gets this kind of love from the masses.
Again, 3 years of passion put into this title, 3 million day one...well deserved...worth every cent.

Edit..
'sequels win again. Up next Black ops 2. and halo 5'
We all knew Halo 5 was coming..this is a new Trilogy.
Every system develops sequels to it's biggest franchises period. It's not just some anomally that started yesterday or even the last two gens.
Just like the movie industy, the gaming industry follows the same model. If you have a huge hit, then give the fans more of what they want.
Because its a new iteration in a longstanding series shouldn't detract from the praise its getting. Seriously a great game, and it deserves to sell that much.
It's because of the name they got from the first game they perfected. Modern Warfare 3 is a good example. The original Modern Warfare was an amazing game for it's time, many gamers bought it because the developers perfected it. But now they just need to put the title Modern Warfare and done. Also commercial success plays a big role.
halo series has been an ever increasing series since the first release. As it pertains to the number of units sold, each version has continued to outsell the previous one.
Because the games had been outselling the previous ones I am likely to think the series is picking up new player that did not play the previous one. It would obviously still retain the original gamers who played from the beginning but sometimes curiosity gets to people and they jump in where they see fit.
There are few game franchises to have a continued growth from release to release. While this is only the first few days of halo 4 sales I would likely imagine it will meet or exceed those number set by Halo 3.
Just for a comparative, lets look at another high profile franchise. GT on the playstation. The first game sold really well. The second did not surpass the first but the 3rd, however, did.
The 3rd was not only the 3rd in the series but it represented a new version as it was the first on the PS2. The 4th did not fare as well. So when we look at a popular franchise like GT we see and up down up down approach.
Looking at Halo we have seen nothing but continued growth from the 1st to the 3rd with each one outpacing the previous entry. Halo 4 may/not exceed 3 but it would more likely that it will because it isnt just a continuation but a start of an entirely new trilogy.
Actually ms released fez. It didn't get much attention but its pretty well liked for an indiegame. People don't realize that some of the greatest video games started out as indie games.(i.e: Minecraft
But im not suprised a game like primal carnage got a bad feedback. To be honest its nothing near original. Its just too obvious >FLAMETHROWERS >DINOSAURS >REPETITIVE GAMEPLAY
@ shutUpAndTakeMyMoney We don't need something new just for the sake of being new. I don't see anything innovative about that Carnage game vid you link to, actually game didn't look great with that ugly flamethrower and generic gameplay.
I'm all about new experiences but there is plenty of room for sequels as long as they continue to advance the franchise= are great games, what we need is new IP's that actually deliver something innovative, not gimmicky and stands on its own as a great game with great characters, great gameplay, and a great story, when a game does this it will start its own fame, I know it may take awhile not all great games will take off immediately but if devs stay true to their vision but make the right improvements maybe the 2nd or 3rd sequel will be the game that sets the world on fire, either way no 1 person can decide what direction the industry should go, rightfully videogames are made because that's what gamers want.
Halo fans pretty much live in their parent's basement so I expect nothing less here. THey have no social lives and they work solely to play games. They have no friends except their "online Halo Buddies" so this is all they do all day, work at some shit job just so they can support their halo habit in their parent's basement dreaming of a girlfriend or wife they will never have. But they will always have good ol Halo and Master Chief to keep them company.
It would've sold more if it weren't for the most unfortunate disaster of Super Storm Sandy hitting the Eastern portion of the United States. Now they've been hit with a Snow Storm.
Well good luck to them.
On a lighter note:
For the rest of us, Halo 4 is fantastic! Hope the East coast recovers fast.
Also, there are several reviewers that should be ashamed of themselves in the rating of this game. 343 put the Kitchen Sink in Halo 4, & it shows!
agreed, it really is the total package. engaging sp, awesome mp and some sweet co-op. if it still had dual wielding and firefight i think it would be damn near impossible to beat and perhaps a few more maps but those will be coming
Not even close. I beat it on easy in 2 hours and 38 minutes. It was a great game but really short. Before others cry about it being on easy, I play ALL of my games on PS3 and Xbox 360 on easy. I only play games for the story. I rarely play mp.
You blocked and ignored me because I showed you proof? I admit I'm a Ps3 Fanboy, but when I played this game, I thought I was playing on my PS3. It was that beautiful. I just said it was short.
I would seriously want to see you prove a user doing this. I have said VGC is BS always for example. Where do these people get these....?
I'm sure H4 sold a lot but I'm not going to go along VGC numbers. That's just not going to happen. Don't really care either way if it actually sold more or less. Just the point of origin for these numbers that is not reliable at all.
Mine too. There have been many good games this year; ME:3, Darksiders 2, Sleeping dogs, Dishonored but mine is Halo 4.
I never disagree with meta scores, but how this isn't in the 90's is beyond me. Best Halo since Combat Evolved. Better than Reach and Halo 3 by a mile.
I actually agree with "bozebo". Whether he is trolling or not it was funny and also true.
Also agree with "phantomexe". It's not that I think the 360 sucks, it's actually an excellent console. I just go through games fairly quickly and lucky for me I still have quite a few to play on the PS3.
I couldn't miss out on the day 1 awesomeness of a Halo though. Especially happy now as Halo 4 is the best game I have played in a few years.
Yeah Bubble I am half trolling (well, it's a good way to make a joke). The 360 is truely a good console, but MS take the piss with charging for multiplayer so I buy multiplat games on PS3 and PC. I actually managed to lose the power cable for my 360 and had to buy one just to play Halo 4 lol.
Same here, I buy all multiplatform titles on the PS3 - when something like Halo comes around the cobwebs are brushed off. Kind of feel guilty for my PS3. I swear it's staring at me when I'm playing Halo.
LOL Love how EvilDead360 comes in and does his fanboy schtick every time a Xbox 360 article goes up. Keep it up bro!
In reality, these are just VGChartz(LOL really?) estimates so take them with an extremely large grain of salt and wait for the NPD to come out next month when we will have actual numbers. Also, I truly expect BlOps 2 to shatter this number next week so be on the look out for that as well.
Only time when PS3 fanbabes run to COD, when they think it will save Vita, and when they want to pit it against Halo sales. Well lets put it this way, no exclusive will touch Halo 4 this year, and as far as HD consoles are concerned, Halo is the best selling exclusive game. To top it off, Black Ops 2 will outsell Halo 4 on 360. PS3? Not a chance.
According to VGchartz (so take it with a grain of salt) Halo 4 actually had higher pre-orders than Black Ops 2 on the Xbox360. So sales on the xbox360 of both games will be closer than alot of us imagine.
EDIT: Should of mentioned those numbers are for north america
There's an almost infinite level of skill someone can put into an FPS, it's all subjective. There certainly is a lot more to think about in Halo but if you are good at CoD or BF it is possible to literally trounce the entire enemy team constantly (because they think it's easy and don't put as much effort in, or aren't used to someone good, ^_^)
I wouldn't be surprised if it hit 5-6 by the end of the month alone. You have to think if they sold 3m in one day it'll likely hit 4-5 first week as although first day sales are huge there are always others that wait for one reason (check, weekend, etc). Then of course there are those in no rush (namely parents that didn't rush out already) as they will be purchasing for Christmas presents so 6-8 is likely projection for end of the year alone.
Halo has good legs but at its core its a blockbuster that sells big quick (much like cod has become).
I was just trying to be conservative with the numbers, but you could be very well right. Sales dont make the game however its continueation depends upon it.
Let's be real here...Halo is the reason why we own Xboxs. The numbers are well deserved because the game is pretty damn good. Not as good as CE but I suspect no Halo will beat CE.
The thing that propels H4 ahead of Reach and H3 is the actual new gameplay. New enemies, weapons, the usual open ended hubs, and the return of Chief and Cortanna.
Definitely well deserved kudo's to 343i. They have made a fantastic game. MS must be breathing a sigh of relief knowing at least two of their juggernaught IP's are in good hands for the transition to the next box (Halo & Forza).
343i went from tribute band to the main attraction with Halo 4. I was skeptical at first, but Halo 4 is my new favorite in the series. Everything looks and plays like it was meant for the Xbox 360, and they made the online a bit more fast paced, but didn't sell it down the COD road.
I've always liked that Halo games had tougher competition and took quite a bit of skill to master, it keeps the casual kids away from the online.
Congrats to 343i and Microsoft on a job well done.
So far this gen M$ has Halo 3, Halo ODST, Halo Wars, Halo Reach, Halo 4. HHmmmm, yea, no milking going on here folks, move along, nothing to see but more Halo. Someone please put a bullet in my head now.
Im sorry but everyone just look at this guys comment history and just see if you can get a hint of what game this guy loves! Guess the missing letter: C - D
Insanity.. This game is as if not more, popular than mario.. Halo was awesome to me in the original xbox days when hooking em all up to each other with different tvs & playing with friends.. I lost interest after 3 tho.. Ill rent this just for the campaign when its cheaper cuz theres just way too many shooters this gen & im not going to encourage them to make more
I don't own a 360 (Always been a Sony guy), so I borrowed my friends just to buy and play Halo 4 (Did the same with 3, Reach, GOW 1-3, Alan Wake, Splinter Cell, Infinite Undiscovery, Last Remnant, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey, Knights of the Old Republik 1-2, Saint's Row 1, Fable 1-3). Given that list I should have bought one. Making me consider getting a 720 in addition to PS4.
Anyways LOVED Halo 4; favourite campaign to date for me. Surely the ending could have been better but it's only Part 1. I thought it was perfectly polished, great AI, right amount of difficulty, etc.
Yup! Had it for 2 months in 2011 (right when Gears of War 3 came out), then crushed the above titles.
I then re-borrowed it for a day to play & beat Halo 4.
Again in hindsight I should have just bought one.
Is

Guess this is why few platform get something new like this.

Im not fond of whacking off to ANYTHING microsoft like Evildead up there, but i agree that more of the same in this case isnt so bad.
Congrats to 343.

GTFOH...So praising Halo 4 and congratulating 343 equals 'wh@cking off to ANYTHING Micrsoft??
Not even close..
Yup..just it figures another spanking new 'account' made a week ago to do what these accounts always do.
But, I love how you can say something positive about a game and the closet haters prove it's eating them alive.
Once again..I just simply keep it real on this site.
343 put in amazing work for 3 years and the results prove that hard work pays off.

Sandy could have effected millions of sales as people try to get their lives back together in the most populist region in NA.
congrats to both 343i and microsoft, still need to get Halo 4, but money is tight :<
9.5/10 for me
I loved the game. Awesome graphics. Like I said I only play games for the story. NOT for trophies or achievements.

Anybody praising VGChartz numbers are idiots whether you support MS or Sony.

Multilayer is nice and co-op is kind of fun, I need more time 2 play but graduating semester is kicking my free time's ass

On topic: Great sales! It could be nominated as the best shooter award!
EDIT: Should of mentioned those numbers are for north america
Same goes for Killzone. Seriously, Killzone 2 will make CoD and Battlefield players cry in frustration for weeks weeks.
I always loved Halo and Killzone 2 MP. So satisifying. Those 2 and Resistance are the only FPS's I play online.
Halo has good legs but at its core its a blockbuster that sells big quick (much like cod has become).
The thing that propels H4 ahead of Reach and H3 is the actual new gameplay. New enemies, weapons, the usual open ended hubs, and the return of Chief and Cortanna.
Well done 343.
This game has changed everything. It turned everything upside down, and it is amazing.
I said the same thing. best Halo since CE. Is it better than CE?? I'm not sure but it sure as hell comes in at 2nd place.
I've always liked that Halo games had tougher competition and took quite a bit of skill to master, it keeps the casual kids away from the online.
