So you're telling me that Max Payne 3 is as perfect as Ocarina of Time?
camel_toad  +   356d ago
A 10 doesnt actually mean perfect despite the reviews use of the word. Ocarina wasnt a perfect game and neither is Max but I think Max deserves a 10 as much as Ocarina did. Max Payne 3 to me was the best blend of story, character, and gameplay I think Ive ever seen, or at least in a long time.

I'm aware that it doesn't which is why there are no games I would give a 10 as it should be perfect. The review scores are all screwed up anymore. 9s are given out like candy and a 7 is considered horrible. A 10/10 implies perfection. If it isn't perfect then it shouldn't get a 10/10.

If it isn't perfect then it shouldn't have received a 10. Max Payne was good but it wasn't the game of a lifetime, it wasn't Ocarina, and it damned sure wasn't perfect.

Now gamers are supposed to divine, by some mystical means what reviewers meant when they gave it a 10, even though it wasn't a 10, but it aimed for a 10 but it missed being a 10 but it still deserves a 10 because it isn't a 10 but it is.

Utterly ridiculous.

Makes me wonder what some of the people look like that these individuals date...if they are old enough to date.

It is bad enough that gamers are subjected to having the press unduly and undeservedly influence gaming. An influence that exists despite the fact these remoras, these leeches, across the board have not a single published standard detailing how they grade, to what they give weight, and for what they take away points.

Editorial policy? What's that?

Their whimsical grading standards, which only consist of the numbers 5-10 (because these people have forgotten that 5 is in the middle and is the medium average score) has done more to damage the fun we get from gaming than Bobby Kotick ever dreamed of doing. Honestly the way these people grade and score is reminiscent of Dory from Finding Nemo.

"Oh, that's a lovely shade of blue..." All it takes is something with a little flash and they are blindly distracted from everything else.

"Here's your pass despite all of your flaws."

Now wrap your arms around yourself, raise your voice an octave, and run around the room on your toes while you read this next part:

"We'll just overlook all that other stuff because we....we are in love and therefore we get to ignore the problem. In our self important world we are allowed to have the ultimate says so because we have internet access and a crappy site. Even though we are mere hacks and have no talent ourselves you had better fear us and our almighty pen.

Developers, consider this an industry wide permission slip to keep doing things the same way and to keep making those same mistakes over and over again ad nauseum. Never mind the fact we pointed out those same issues in other games. You're special and for you those standards, the ones we do not have, do not apply."

I would say these sites should understand gamers do not visit them because they genuinely like the writing and the non-existent editorial policy, but rather because game companies use them as an outlet for information. But I seriously doubt these sites care one iota as long as they get clicks.

"Quick! Do another list article Morty! The 5 worst ...whatever!!!"

So in addition to all of this idiocy, gamers are now supposed to utilize the divination of the seer and the unholy power of Miss Cleo in order to figure out when an 8 is a 10, or a 5 a 7 or a 10 only an 8 because it had the same issues but they just didn't 'like' it as much.

To me games are like art, just like movies - They are objective so if someone loves a movie, a piece of art or a game enough to give it a 10 it means they totally love it. Objective. One man's garbage is another man's treasure. It doesn't necessarily mean they wouldn't change a thing or that its actually perfect. Its not like a math test where its either right or wrong. A 10 in art doesnt mean perfect.
1nsomniac  +   356d ago
That's rubbish! A number rating system is just that, A rating system of absolutely nothing, to its point of perfection. To 'love it' is not a measurement no matter whether it's art or not. Putting a scale to it is just that. You wanting to show a physical global representation that can be understood by all which is why all these 'Journalists' that hand out these perfect scores like there penny sweets at a sweet shop are fucking morons & don't deserve the jobs there given!

There has NEVER been a perfect game but there have been tons of games that have received 10/10's. If someone says a game is perfect, someone else can come along and point out a single problem. I just dont think a 10/10 should be viewed as perfect. It may be as close to perfect as can be but no game is perfect.

If its so perfect why not mention replayability? Some games single player I have played countless times, yet I'd never say it was perfect. He makes it sound awesome yet I doubt the score given... (Personaly Vanquish has awesome bullet time)
DestinyHeroDoomlord  +   356d ago
I must have been mistaken because at school if you where given a 10/10 it meant there was no mistakes.

Perfect score? so the load times are perfectly acceptable then?
1nsomniac  +   356d ago
I remember when a perfect score meant something. The only game thats deserved it in my life time was Super Mario All Stars/World. I still play it even to this day.

I loved Max Payne 3, but I think that MGS4 and Uncharted 2 are way better games that actually earned the plethora of perfect scores they received. They had amazing characters, story, gameplay.

This is kinda hypocritical in the sense that multiplayer wasnt included as part of it. So then you saying the multiplayer doesnt matter then?(LOL), & even though I AGREE 100%, its still apart of the game & should be considered in the review. This just proves my point that its THE INDUSTRY pushing this MULIT PLAYER ONLINE DOGMA on the gamers, they want every game to include it as a standard, CORE GAMERS could care less. We just want GREAT GAME EXERIENCES, & we dont need a SOCIAL ASPECT(online, multi player, online co-op) IN THE GAME to achieve it. But the INDUSTRY......lol
