Those were realistic human faces????? On a nearly 6 year old engine? (Older if you consider when they modified the quake engine) I've seen better......on games that came out 3 years ago...

(sigh) You do realize its not the same 6 year old engine right? Call Of Duty 2 and Call Of Duty 4 ran on modified Quake Engines, while World At War had its own Engine.

Treyarch used a modified World At War Engine for the original Black Ops, but it looks like they went with a heavily modified Modern Warfare Engine.

There is no Quake coding in the games anymore, each one aside from Modern Warfare 3 has had graphical improvements. Its never going to look like Battlefield 3 on PC and it doesn't have to. The games are forced on anyone, but this one looks pretty interesting and will probably do well.

So ignorant when people say its the same 6 year old engine or claim its Quake coding....

The engine was first used for Call of Duty 2 in 2005 under a proprietary license of id Tech 3 created by id Software in 1999, as at this time, the engine was a heavily modified version of the Quake III engine. The engine did not have an official name until IGN was told at the E3 2009 by the studio that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would run on the "IW 4.0 engine".

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was released using version 3.0 of the engine. Treyarch began using an enhanced version of the IW 3.0 engine for Call of Duty: World at War.

Treyarch, however, then modified the engine for their James Bond title, Quantum of Solace.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was released using the IW 4.0 engine, the only game to do so. The IW 4.0 engine featured texture streaming technology to create much higher environmental detail. Treyarch then further modified the IW 3.0 engine for Call of Duty: Black Ops.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 utilizes an improved version of the IW 4.0 engine. Improvements on the engine allow better streaming technology which allows larger regions for the game while running at a minimum of 60 frames per second and improvements to the audio of the engine have also been made.

Does it really matter the graphics are far from great?
ChunkyLover53  +   388d ago
@LAWSON72
What constitutes great? It also matters when people try to use false facts to troll Call Of Duty. They aren't the perfect games by any means, but they don't look terrible and don't play terrible, if they did, people wouldn't keep buying and playing them.

Why even concern yourself with a game franchise you hate? that is the part I don't get around here. Clearly nobody or at least a big percentage of people at N4G aren't going to buy the next COD anyway, so why troll the articles and complain?

Technically even older, pretty much base engine powers all cod titles since 2003, and yeah by today's standards it looks like shit
aviator189  +   388d ago
I'm sorry but those faces in the trailer didn't look very realistic.
SybaRat  +   388d ago
I play CoD for the realistic faces.
deantak  +   388d ago
You have to see the lip-sync and expressions in action. video would have been better.
gtxgamer2  +   388d ago
TBH i think their saving the engine upgrade for next gen systems, Then we'll have that engine for another 5-6 years and so on lol

Is it bad that I was more impressed with Crysis 3's few seconds clips than this?
Tachyon_Nova  +   388d ago
Bad for Activision maybe, wouldn't surprise me if Crysis 3 is a much better game although I must admit to being a bit biased towards Crysis games.
Rivitur  +   388d ago
Hell xbox games had realer faces than that to name one Prince of Persia Worrior Within or even before that on N64 Perfect Dark(technically) lol.

And there i thought this would be running on a new Engine........with all the money they make and they cant still seem to at least update the dang thing.
kudakadere  +   388d ago
it's not April fool's yet , no offence but a multimillion dollar company can't afford a new engine .
deantak  +   388d ago
er, it is a multibillion dollar company.
madjedi  +   388d ago
And that makes the situation all the more pathetic, considering how dated the engine and graphics are compared to current games.

Sorry but the cod fans playing the gameplay card need to give it up already. It is a fps in which visuals are much more important than in almost every other genre.

This isn't a niche jrpg from atlus or nis, those games were never about graphics, cod and other fps games are supposed to have superior graphics presentations as a given.

The ps3 and 360 might be 5-6 yr old hardware, but that hasn't prevented exclusives or multiplats from making cod look like ass.
DoctorXpro  +   388d ago
Even Halo Reach shitty graphics has better faces than that
Paradicia  +   388d ago
This looks shitty to you?

*Facepalm*

Reach's cutscenes where done all in real in-time unlike a lot of games that go the pre-rendered route.

aviator189  +   387d ago
I'm sorry, but the graphics of Reach were not "shitty" at all.
