Well, if we're going to be doing more recent games for Total Recall, we'd better talk about Half-Life 2 sooner rather than later. As is true for so many people, HL2 is one of my favorite games of all time, an evergreen gem that I replay about once a year.
Given the medium's wild diversity, this primer of the essential video games everyone should try is a good place to start.
I can't fk with this list. They missed on alot of games probably before the writers times. Also I know people loved some portal but I was never a fan.
Tomb Raider 1
Driver 1
Abe’s Odyssey
FF6
King of Fighters 94
Mortal Kombat OG
LINK 2 the past
Street Fighter 2
Resident Evil 1
Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.
Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.
The 2024 Game Anniversaries include some major titles including Half-Life 2, Uncharted 2, and Minecraft.
At Gamescom 2023, NVIDIA announced it has approached a group of modding teams to create Half-Life 2 RTX, a ray traced/DLSS 3 powered remaster.
That suit looks amazing. We really do need a proper new valve game. They were front runners on creative innovative technology. That actually made a difference.
Playing HL2 for the first time and witnessing the animation and physics was literally stunning.
Magical moment= Entire game.
Remember when Resistance 3 ripped off this moment almost exactly? Actually, that was most of the game, now that i think about it.
My favorite moment is when you are going through the courtyard near the end of the game and you have the blasts coming down from the sky and the big long-legged bastards are everywhere, and you have to climb the building looking for more rocket ammo. No game has ever captured that feeling that you are saving the day the way HL2 does.
so many great set pieces. and what's great about the set pieces in HL2, as opposed to a lot of really garbage games that get WAY WAY too much credit, you actually get to PLAY them and not just watch them in a cut scene or some BS scripted moment that always plays out exactly the same way.
Playing with dog, that was a magic moment, then the Combine had to come and ruin everything.
If I had to pick a top moment it would be something involving Alyx Vance, possibly the very beginning of episode one. I'm so creepily obsessed with Alyx it's really not okay. I can sort of fall back on the fact that it's probably because the first (and probably only) girl I ever really fell in love with was pretty much exactly a caucasian Alyx from the tomboy attitude down to the grown out short dyed hair, the ass hugging jeans and (weirdly) her exact skin tone. I can use the fact that my obsession with Ms. Vance is probably subconsciously based on this real girl I dated in the real world but I know it doesn't make it okay, I'm still pretty much head over heels for a completely fictional woman to the extent that I'm looking forward to Half life 3 mostly because I just want to see more of her.
Ps. As if I didn't already sound crazy enough, I should remind anyone from Valve who might be reading this that if Half life 3 rolls around and Alyx has been redesigned to look like some tacky supermodel (or redesigned at all in fact) I will personally murder you all to death until you die from it.
