Super shiny.

I remember that the Unreal Engine use to be shiny too but developers learned how to minimize the shiny oily look.

well if anyone can optimize the new engine and get the most out of it then it must be Kojima himself

i wonder which game he will be making with the new engine and if the rest of Konami will use it for their other IPs like ProEvo and so on

Looks shiny like in front of a light source instead of that plastic/rubber shiny from UE3.
One thing that makes this engine superior to UE3 is that skin looks like skin.

u think that looks like skin? I think your just blinded by the fact that hit has kojimas name on it. Im sorry, but kojima productions flat out sucks at making game engines. Great games, with compelling stories... but lets not pretend that he and his studio is even in the same league as epic, crytek, or ID software.

low resolution textures, low polygon count, NO sub surface scattering, NO tessellation with displacement mapping, very proper SSAO and crappy bump mapping are all OBVIOUS fails of the fox engine lol the skin looks plastic. consoles FAIL. kojima is limited by your crappy consoles....the entire game industry is its not just him. PC FTW!!

and yet the PC dont have any exclusives to show off that so called amazing power that stands over us console players... only thing that looks amazing is crysis 2 and thats a multiplatform. Doesnt make any sense... ohh wait it does, cause no1 cares about PC. Id feel like an idiot if i were a PC fanboy... good luck playing madden, eventhough u will knock that game cause you think your cool playing call of duty or something.

Lol Madden, still buying that crap? PC is a hardcore competitive platform, SC2, CS:S, DotA 2, Red Orchestra 2 just to name a few, it's definitely not for carebears like yourself.

crysis 1 actually looked better then crysis 2 lol.... u can count crysis 1 as an exclusive :P. But to be honest every game looks better on pc. It just does.. it has the raw power to up resolutions.. handle more textures... utilize more shaders... utilize more complicated shaders... and take advantage of new advances in technology like dx11.

I mean clearly ur spewing hatred cause your just a hater. Haters gotta hate. There are just way more games all together to buy on a pc. Dont get me wrong, consoles have some good exclusives.. (which i own lol) , but none of that compares to the amount of stuff you get with pc gaming. Hell i still use my 360 controller on pc for some titles. All the mods out there that turn games into totally different new games... see half life 2 modding lol...

I wonder if its meant to be like that? I don't see how Kojima would allow something like that to happen. Maybe with an actual texture on it, it will look a bit different? I mean everything but his forehead looks pretty good in terms of modeling.

Not sure these are supposed to be seen as stills but rather moving to illustrate facial animation!..

I'm sure, well I hope, that it's only shiny as facial textures aren't the point of this and that they can be improved well beyond what's shown.

Hideo did also say in his Tweet (where this articles pictures came from) that the shaders are temporary.

The earlier E3 stills and video are better and although they also seem shiny to an extent it's in keeping with the enviroment!



Suppose we'll just have to wait, but suppose the problem of cross platform engines as they are never going to push the boundaries on either console as an (in-house) console specific engines would, as cross platform engines in truth are there just to make cross platform development easier.

For some reason, I believe that MGS1 will be remade using this engine for the 25th MGS anniversery and that it will go multiplatform.
