EA CEO: Treyarch 'Far From Proven' in Eyes of Consumers

You may remember EA's executives during the year repeatedly talking about the publisher taking back the shooter category crown from Activision. The Medal of Honor reboot was certainly a part of the shooter genre attack, and while EA Europe VP Patrick Soderlund said at one point that the game didn't meet EA's own quality expectations, EA CEO John Riccitiello has told IndustryGamers that the title absolutely did exceed EA's expectations. Riccitiello also cast some doubt on the state of developers within Activision, when we asked him how he felt about taking back the shooter category in the wake of Black Ops' blockbuster success.

Now that the newness of Black ops has worn off, I have accepted the fact that I really don't like it!

I beat the story and it was good. Played the zombie mode and it's ok. Played the multiplayer a bit and just don't like it as much. I keep bouncing back to MW 2 and like it more! Yeah it's got it's problems but it's still fun to me and thousands of others who still play it!

You can hate on MW 2 all you want, but it doesn't change the fact that over 800,000 people at any given time played it up until the first dlc came out. People have already started to abandon Black ops!

Yup, I agree. When EAs own game is rated in the mid 70's I don't think they should be pointing fingers at a competitor with a mid 80's game.

Personal experience, I bought Bad Company 2 and I was very disappointed in the game. I beat the game, because I paid top dollars for the game and regretted not trading it in.

I find it interesting with the sudden newfound EA Love!

Seriously. I think MOH made up a shiteload of ground on COD with it's last iteration. It was actually a very solid fun game. And the online was done by dice, so it had many awesome elements that bettered COD in many ways. For me, all EA has to do, is try getting back that feeling of truly being in a war, that Frontline's 1st level exuded. And copy the feeling that you got playing many parts of Resistnace 1, as in that overwhelming, outnumbered type feeling that made you feel you were part of a bigger thing. Going the COD clone route, ensures only that Rambo-esque 1 man army feel (which is good for COD, and it's clones) as that type of fps is being done to death by one company alone (activision), and that is there market, as all clones either fail to be as good, and even if better or same quality will be squashed by the COD franchise due to name recognition (brand association).

EA need to eliminate all perks, and offer a fair shooter that caters to all. The biggest detractor for me, with the COD franchise is the fact it rewards players who live on the thing 24/7 and have no other life, with overpowered perks, better weapons and there attachments.

So when some poor bastard, with no clue of map layout, inferior weapons and a massive target on there entirety jumps on for the 1st time to get value from the game, and have a fun online experience, they are overwhelmed, by over serious nerds that have spent more time on this game, than they have in the outdoor, sun riddled world of reality.

Just take these shooters back to everyone having the same weapon choice, running speed, melee profiancy, hip firing accuracy, etc,etc as every other player in the field. I mean, the HUGE advantage gained by people spending countless hours on these games learning map layout alone is a huge handicap for new players to overcome as, then factor in thereb disadvantages of not knowing which weapons are best, tactics for said maps & envoroments and such, and I don't see why the more experienced players need more overwhelming odds in there favor. I mean fun is not a part of some of these more serious players agenda, they would more than likely give the game up, if things were more evenly balanced, and less experienced players did manage to get the fair & square drop on them more times per game, as they want as many overwhelming odds in there favor to make sure, if they don't win, they certainly are up there in the stats in every possible game. Even to the point where a team of 8 players is riddled with level 25-40 players, against a team with 1-2 level 20's, down to half the team being below lvl 10's.

Black Ops was a pretty horrid experience. I found MW2 to be better though. At least they made an effort in making the game look at as good as possible on both consoles
