Bloodmask's In-Depth Guide to Identifying A Sony Fanboy

Hello N4G community and welcome to my fourth blog. Today's journey will be an in-depth tour in gaining a fundamental understanding of the mindset of a Sony fanboy and you will also learn to become more adept to identifying one who may be trying to remain camouflaged from your sight. So without further ado let's move on to the fundamentals.

1) Game Description:
They will not refer to video games simply as games. The games will either fall under the categories of exclusive or multi-platform. Games exclusive to the PS3 platform are always weighted as being of far more value.

2) Price Analysis:
Often times articles are posted on N4G about current sales trends. They are usually from NPD or Chart Track. If the PS3 is not first in sales it is because the PS3 has a price disadvantage because it is more expensive than the consoles that Microsoft and Nintendo offer. But if an the article is posted about the PS3 pricing itself, these very same people will claim the PS3 is actually the cheapest out of the three consoles available because of available features. Usually the Sony fanboy will bring up features out of box such as Wii-fi, Bluray...etc. This is a tricky one so be aware.

3) Comparative Analysis:
Websites such as GameTrailers, Eurogamer, or Lens of Truth sometimes do in-depth analysis of cross platform games. If the PS3 version of the game is found to have a lower framerate or lower texture detail etc, the equipment used to do the video capture has been corrupted. The people that analyze these games everyday for a living are not the experts...the fanboys are.

4)Media Bias:
If games exclusive to the PS3 platform do not receive AAA ratings from any given website it is obvious that they are biased against Sony or the PS3. Games that are excusive to the PS3 platform all deserve a rating of nine or higher. The fact that these game outlets have been reviewing games for years is irrelevant. They all of a sudden have no credibility.

5: Developer Laziness:
If a game turns out subpar in any way, shape or form on the PS3 it is soley due to developer laziness. A good example of this is Valve. Since Valve sometimes opts to make games eclusive to the 360 or PC platforms it is because they are lazy. And also since they outsourced there development material for the PS3 version of the Orange Box to EA. Never mind the fact that Valve is a very small development team with limited funds that has no experience with PS3 development. On the other end of the spectrum, developers who make PS3 exclusive games such as Insomniac, Sucker Punch...etc are never lazy. They are the cream of the crop of the development community.

6: Every PS3 Gamer is a Hardcore PC Gamer:
Many 360 games are released on both the 360 and PC. PS3 fanboys always stress the point that they will be buying the PC version of the game in every PC/Xbox 360 thread. It is ovious that every person on N4G that owns a PS3 and no Xbox 360 also owns a very high end PC rig. A game that is released on both the 360 and PC is not a console exclusive. Keep in mind that the PC is a console also. This will be posted in five to ten of their comments on most Xbox 360/PC threads. Whether the game is actually good or not is secondary. The only thing that matters is whether the game is a "true" exclusive or not.

7: DVD-9:
If the PS3 version of a game underperforms in any way shape or form than a rival console version of the game it is never the PS3's fault. It is because the game had to be dumbed down because of the limitations of the Xbox 360. Usually this point is stressed or blamed on the limitations of DVD-9. DVD-9 is usually the scapegoat for various other problems also. Usually you will see at least one comment in any thread no matter what the topic is about the problems with DVD-9.

8: The PS3 Exclusives List:
The PS3 eclusives list is the holy grail of any Sony fanboy. It can put an end to any debate and is considered the ultimate of rebuttals. You have to realize there is no countering the sacred list.

9: PS3 is more Powerful than a PC:
The PS3 is more powerful than a high end gaming PC because of the Cell processor. Never mind the fact that the PC may have a high end processor and a quad-SLI GPU setup. Any PC technology is inferior to the hardware found in the PS3.

10) A Game is a Flop Until it Comes to the PS3:
Recently the game Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 was announced for the PS3. Some of the reviews for the original Xbox 360 version were less than stellar. This game was consodered a flop until it was recently announced for the PS3. The same could be said for Bioshock.

11) Red Ring of Death:
If a Sony fanboy is cornered with no valid rebuttal there is always red ring of death. Red ring of death is very similar to the PS3 exclusives list. It is the be-all end-all of all arguments. Once you have been on the receiving end of a RRoD statement your argument is considered case closed.

Not a PS3 fanboy here, but most of these are a bit of a stretch.
Take his RROD argument. Yes, Sony fans do often bring up RROD, as do 360 fans. The reason? Being unable to play your console is a pretty big deal, wouldn't you think? When people ask me if I like my PS3 or 360 better, it doesn't require much thought. "Well, I've had 4 360 consoles, so I'm going to have to go with the unit that has reliable hardware." What should the answer be?

Point 3 is interesting because the vast majority of professional reviewers will comment on differences between the PS3 and 360 versions of games and almost always come to the conclusion that the version are identical or the differences are too minor to even note. Even a cursory glance at various reviews on Metacritic back this up.

On price, you don't have to be a mental giant to get that the more full featured PS3 at twice the price doesn't sell as much as the cheaper consoles. Hi-End tv's don't sell as many units as low-end TV's too. Why would you even question this?

As for games being dumbed down because of the lowest common denominator factor, I don't think we've really seen this happen yet but certainly we've heard developers voice their concerns over restrictions they've had to make due to the 360's hardware. Just google it and you can find evidence of this. Lazy developers and bad ports? If a game's bad on the 360, chances are it's worse on the PS3. That's just a rule of thumb. If they couldn't be bothered to make it right on one console, why would they do it on the port. Sad, but it happens.

Really, this whole blog is just Bloodmask living in some sort of fantasy world. For his PS3 vs PC quote, I see researching networking PS3's together so there's obviously something there, although I wouldn't make the PS3 vs PC argument because they obviously aren't the same thing. The "It's a flop until it's ported to the PS3." What? No one's saying that. Are you on glue?

There is one I disagree with however.PS3 fanboys often choose to use PC as a way of saying that certain 360/PC games are not exclusive.I agree with PS3 fanboys that if a game is on either 360,PS3,Wii and is also PC,it is not exclusive.I have been playing PC games for a long time and sometimes I decide to get a multiplatform on PC instead of 360 or PS3.

I consider these games multiplatform because even though they stand out as one console titles,they are also available on PC if you wish to get them.

As for requiring a high end PC,that is not exactly true.Some games such as The Orange box and Left 4 Dead don't require a high end PC.You could get a rig from 2004 and still play the Valve games due to their low end specs and great optimization.

Other than that,bloodmask has nailed down all the points of the typical Sony droid.I have no hate for droids,xbots and drones since they keep N4G an interesting place.

1. Because games made my Sony have always been of a vast quality and detail, since Sony snapped up the best talent during the PSOne. MS liquidated most of them during and even BEFORE this gen. Sony encourage and fund talent, whilst MS has a habit of "Wam Bam, thankyou mam".

2. You answered this yourself. Everything's all in the box and ready to go, the defininition of 'value' is worth looking up in this instance. I recommend the PS3 because it does have the best features and again, look how much a Blu-Ray drive costs seperately for a PC, you'll find they're about £100, or at least are at Maplin's, couple that with the 'life-time' subscription of PSN and the chucked in multiple USB devices that work in it, the PS3 is worth every penny.
UNLESS you just want a cheaper console to play multiplatform franchises.

3. There is no reason to do cross platform as in this day of age, there are hardly any differences in quality and both systems have plus and minuses. Anyone who buys a game over a clearer line than free multiplayer is clearly a fool and hasn't been introduced to a PC.

4. Media Bias does happen because games that honestly deserve focus like Ratchet and Clank and Uncharted get ignored a large percentage of the time despite having strong art design, plot and game mechanics. People forget the people making the games on the PS3 were the console industry leading people back on the PS2 and PSone.

5. Not lazy, just ignorant. Gabe specifically has had something against ever console system, ever...except for MS afflicated consoles, so to be honest, Gabe can be a heck of a hypocrite this is where most of the anger stems, PS3 fans could of just so possibly played Half-Life too, ignoring fans is not a good thing and is bound to make them look the other direction.
As I said before, Sony bought strong talent and KEPT THEM ALIVE since the PSone and onwards.

6. Pc versions always look better but PC costs more.

7. DVD-9 is keeping things in the past. I did not see the large step from Floppy Disc to CD-Rom for ages. Blu-Ray is huge compared to DVD. Bigger formats is good and has always been good, it's called progress, imagine GTA San Andreas running of a CD-Rom. I bet you wouldn't be kicking off this argument if the the case was 360 games on HD-DVD.

8. Look up Naughty Dog and Insomniac, these two have been pumping out games that have always kept to a degree of high quality. To ignore these console developers, you must be a fool as a few gens ago, these were the only console developers taking 3D games forward and seriously.

9. This is indeed not true. But to get a PC that is more powerful than a PS3 or 360 would probably cost far more than either console.

10. I do not live up to this rule. As I have a 360, if I like a game and its good, I'll mention it's good. The 360 has good games, but only for the fact early in the lifecycle the PS3 didn't exist, as has been proven recently. The exclusives secured by MS early on the 360 were just to fool the public into thinking that the 360 was far more powerful than the PS3 even though middleware engines run the same on both systems.

11. RROD is something that should of never been allowed in the first place. The 360 is a terrible mess compared hardware wise compared to the original XBOX and is clear to of been rushed to mimick Sony's old tricks of being out first.

Sigh. Perhaps I didn't need to type this up. But I've noticed that on N4G there has been a recent thing that apparently PS3 fanboys exist, Wii fanboys exist and 360 fanboys don't.
It's clearly evident that fanboys of each faction exist on this site and the whole world, I'm just playing at Bloodmask's own game, fact is these blogs have been appearing the last few days off of Bloodmask starting flame wars. I know that Bloodmask is quite a part of the communty of N4G and reports a lot of stories, I've only been here for bout 8 months or so.

Why? Perhaps Bloodmask isn't very happy that there isn't currently much news reported for the 360, perhaps its the fact that the PS3 is finally getting some limelight and his constant posted list of 'Sony's lies' are gradually being crossed out and proven wrong. I don't know why exactly.

I'm not happy with these blog posts pointing out the 'habits of Sony fanboy' and specific peoples comments, ignoring the fact that the 360 fanboy exist and can bring up an utter lack of common sense when trolling PS3 articles. I can bring up a lot of comments from 360 fanboys against the PS3 without a stroke of logic, but I don't, because I don't think it's justified.

I have no idea why Bloodmask is doing this, I respect him as a longstanding member of N4G and his interesting articles posted from the internet, but maybe he should see that all sides do the same.

i find myself guilty of 4, 6, 7 and 8- but allow me to explain myself

4- there are only 2 sites i have a problem with.... Variety is basically endorsed by MS, this is proven... GameDaily did an article in which they did a top ten list of consoles, surprise surprise... the Xbox 360 was ranked number 1, edging out the PS2 and SNES (despite having glaring issues- don't think we need to go into that)... from then on they have had a habit of favoring 360 exclusives to PS3 exclusives ostensibly... i wonder why?

Gamespot is cool, but it was a bit weird citing "too much variety" as a "negative" for R&C: TOD, the only time 1UP really peed me off was when they rated MLB 2K8 over MLB 08: The Show, despite it being painfully obvious to everyone else that The Show was superior (even hardcore 360 fans admit The Show is a superior baseball game)

6- i have a competent PC rig, and im building an extremely high-spec one in the summer... i can run Gears, Left 4 Dead and other 360 "exclusives"... this point is completely valid (as Colbert said), because if a game is available on more than one platform, it can't be exclusive to anything.. i know you'll point out LBP on PSP.. but the PC versions of 360 games are superior, whereas the PSP LBP game will be a watered down version. And by the way, a lot of these PC versions of 360 games aren't actually hard to run, even on a modest rig... Gears Of War is tricky to run sure, but something like Left 4 Dead isn't

7- well you gotta admit, more disk space = better... i mean there IS evidence DVD9 is holding the 360 back... Rage and 2 Days 2 Vegas being examples... while 360 gamers had to download the rest of MLB 2K8 on XBL because it couldn't fit on the disc.. it's not a huge problem as of yet, but it will get worse as time goes on and games get bigger... and then there's piracy

The PS3 exclusive list is formidable , even after losing exclusivity of bread and butter 3rd party titles. The PS3 exclusive list is still full of divine winsauce. New ip's and the God of War etc.

Well if you did think about it you would figure out that the cheaper console sells more, regardless of what features are extra. Consumers see a $200 system and then they see a $400 dollar one, so they spring for the cheaper one, not knowing its a gimped system. Most people don't care if their console has wifi or a hard drive, they just want to play games and save a buck.

The PS3 is such a disaster of epic proportions one could write a doctoral thesis on where Sony went wrong, but for the fandroids out there (a hamster has more intellect than this lot) I shall explain it to them once more why the PS3 is inferior to the Xbox 360. The PS3 is the worst designed console of all time, with its poorly designed architecture and like the runt of the litter the PS3 is a real mangy mutt, it uses a veritable patchwork of garbage and unsuitable components for a home entertainment system, such as the use of the CELL processor, limited RAM, RSX and Blu-Ray a great example of Sony puttings its own corporate greed and interests over that of developers it has created a machine that is horribly inefficient and unwieldy, less powerful than the Xbox 360 while being significantly more to produce. This has led to higher development costs and inferior quality games on the PS3 platform, and consumers in all their wisdom have decided to abandon this sinking ship of a console once and for all.

Not only has the marketplace abandoned the PS3, but we have seen thousands of development houses and publishers abandon the PS3 like rats off a sinking ship and now every single major publisher and development house on the planet now calls the Xbox 360 its lead platform and home for the future of home entertainment.

The fandroids are the sort of people who have no concept whatsoever of value or quality and have gladly continued to pay more for less. Throw away your money to your sleazy Sony gods fandroids, as it will all be for nil.

It's time to jump in before its too late for you all.
