‘Metro: Last Light Redux’ Review - One of the Best Survival FPS Games | Analog Addiction

Analog Addiction - "Last Light Redux is definitely an improvement over its prequel. The environments are bigger and more varied, encounters more challenging, and the story and its characters are further developing the Metro universe."

The more I read about this series, the more I get interested in it. I got Metro: Last Night on PS3 free with PS+ in February but never played it. Should I buy just Metro: 2033 Redux off the PS Store and then go play Metro: Last Night on PS3? I would save $25! or just get both PS4 upgraded versions on disc for $50??? 😐😑😒

Captain_Mushroom3516d ago

If you can, definitely go for the Redux collection. 2033 Redux is miles better than the original, and Last Light Redux also comes packed with all DLC packs, which include a lot of new missions which are worth playing. Some are even story-based, and feature characters from the campaign.

my favorite was the sniper dlc - sneaking around the Nazi base killing the guards.....I played through it several times. I'm thinking those guys should make a stealth game....they seem to have a talent for it.

There's a redux of a barely 1 year old game and suddenly it's 9.3/10 worthy since it made it to console..
Hmm starving for games much?

nucky643516d ago

watch how many pc gamers go after gtav when it's finally available. the game will be well over a year old and it won't be a remaster....AND pc gamers will eat it up.....

I was thinking the same thing. Now suddenly people are appreciating this game. Before the said it was average or didn't bother to mention. Now the see better gfx now itz tee greatest. It's all about gfx now. Bunch of gfx whores. I loved their game even when I couldn't max it out you tell me it takes for the gfx to get put on mid or high just so I can give devs credit. I keep point this dumb sh! t out. Are you telling me it's only a small percentage of us that see the bs in this industry

Is this really a "survival" genre game though? I'm not being a smart ass, I want input.

mixelon3516d ago

If you put it on the harder difficulties, absolutely. I remember the first game being ridiculously tense and resources being limited.

Monsters, claustrophobia.. It depends how you define it, but it's more of a survival series than most FPS, put it that way. :) (except STALKER, which kind of takes the survival FPS cake - but is a very different experience)

annoyedgamer3516d ago

STALKER is one of my favorites and was developed by the same people under a different studio.

MadLad3516d ago

Here's to praying that Metro goes open world, giving us what is essentially STALKER 2.

annoyedgamer3516d ago (Edited 3516d ago )

Metro 2033 is, Last Light began to feel the effects of "watering down gameplay".

In 2033 death is swift and unexpected, bullets are scarce and weapons feel worn out and useless. As it should feel in a post-apocalyptic setting. The environments are dark and foreboding.

In Last Light the weapons are almost fully decked out almost to the point of special ops level customization that really detracted from the feel of vulnerability. The addition of hit markers and slightly brighter environments did not help either.

That being said the level design and atmosphere remains top knotch and those features alone make up for the unbelievable high-tech equipment that metro dwellers were able to salvage.

It is also worth noting that the story is based of a Russian written novel. It is absolutely engrossing and contains no PC nonsense which allows it to be realistic and enjoyable.

MadLad3516d ago

Yeah.
The high-end tech to be found for your weaponry in the second was a major turn-off for me. It was an excellent experience nontheless.

Captain_Mushroom3516d ago

It's not really focusing 100% on survival, but trust me - you'll really want to save every last bullet. I can't tell you how many times I found myself without any ammo, and had to constantly dodge the mutants and look for bullets.

It's super important to search every body, nook and cranny. So, in a way, yeah, I'd classify it as survival.

A lot of my favourites are on this list so I whole heartedly approve.
Everything except The Observer. It started out really interesting but quickly unraveled into a train wreck. Including frustratingly dull dives into mind sequences, They neutered the monster with boring on rail stealth sequences and a laughably obvious and cringeworthy ending. Mix in bugs and some wonky controls to boot.
I had really strong impressions with it to start but ended up absolutely hating it.

I got 2-3hrs in and couldn't take it anymore, the constant need to switch between the 3 visions just became so annoying and honestly just unnecessary.

monkey602529d ago

I actually agree. At first I thought it was a great idea because the game wasn't holding your hand with the Detective work but it was so unintuitive too. It became a sequence of staring at everything for long enough in 3 different vision modes just to see what stuck.

Soma would be more existential horror than anything but I'll be damned if it didn't have one of the best stories in game that I've experienced. Blew my mind.
