Star Trek-Inspired Holodeck Title Released for Oculus Rift

When virtual reality (VR) fans talk about the history of the technology, the holodeck from science fiction series Star Trek: The Next Generation is usually referenced. Appearing in the pilot episode of the series in 1987, it provided a visualisation of what we might one day expect from a full VR experience. Now an indie developer has paid tribute to the concept, with its own videogame that supports of the Oculus Rift VR headset.

Did that kid who won his science fair have anything to do with this?

Very nice. It is great to see people using and do all kind of development with Oculus Rift. DK2 should arrive soon - to me it means SteamOS + Oculus Rift.

Im sold...where do I but this?

I really want a new Star Trek show. With all the scientific discoveries lately, the shows that could be penned would be amazing. Go many years into the future and anything is possible. It would be amazing and a great project for a company like Netflix or Hulu. To be honest...imagine if Sony or MS invested in it. It would be huge.

Yes yes I'm down to play this so badly.

anast197d ago

Oh, f$%&! They better not mess this up. Trek is miles better than any other Sci-fi franchise.

JackBNimble197d ago

I agree, at the same time no one can seem to make a decent StarTrek game.

I'm with you ... they better not fk this up

Solitariussaint197d ago

Keep up the good work!

They listened and made a physical version of Star Trek Resurgence, which I've pre-ordered, and I hope they make this new game both offline friendly and physical as well!

Icey7197d ago

Immediate reaction - excited for new story driven Star Trek game.

Then I go and check GameXcite's website and see that the only thing they have released are a few Asterix games.

Set expectation to low

That's fine. GT7 would overshadow it anyway at it has open wheel and regular cars.

Should have been spending their time updating Squadrons with better resolution, frame rate, haptics, etc as there isn't a game like that on PS VR 2 yet.

But it's EA. They don't think.

Babadook7347d ago

I agree. It would sell better on PSVR2 right now.

Knushwood Butt347d ago (Edited 347d ago )

A wasted opportunity, but I don't buy EA / Codemasters stuff anyway. Grid Legends just came out on Plus and I haven't touched it. Why would I when I have GT7 and PSVR2?

Abnor_Mal347d ago

Not into F1 racing, but still a missed opportunity.

ApocalypseShadow347d ago

That's where opportunity presents itself that they could offer something else that other developers haven't offered yet. Yeah. There's No Man's Sky. But a space game with a story would be great. Like the old days with Colony Wars.

Abnor_Mal347d ago

Exactly, they could have possibly lured more players just from the inclusion of a vr mode.

I miss Colony wars and G-Police, Low-Fi I hope will scratch that itch when it releases. We also need a vr War/Starhawk game.

Knushwood Butt347d ago

Just watched the trailer of Low-Fi. Most definitely on my radar.
