Some folks from the "PC Master Race" says otherwise when there is Crysis envolved.

Now serious, I totally agree with the author. Look at Rayman Legends or Rayman Origins i.e. (just to mention two games). It's a hell of a fun, and it's almost entirely 2D graphics. I think realism is tied to the type of game and the target the developer is aiming for. For some games, it's very desirable. For others, not at all. Also, there are various types of realism (visual, physics, logical, etc).

But games are always about fun. IMHO.
