Why Do Video Game Movies Suck?

They are making a lot of money, but none of them are ever considered good. Why do video game movies suck?

Stuart57563843d ago

Because the wrong people make them. Imagine if Jerry Bruckheimer made an uncharted movie with Naughty Dog as creative consultants and writers.

I love the mario movie. I still remember renting it as a kid on VHS.

GOD I miss the 90's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Depp as Drake? No thank you! Kidding. Look at the first Silent Hill movie, 99.99999% perfect. Hollywood simply need to involve a lot the game creator's staff to make it authentic, that or do thorough research before filming as opposed to slapping scripts to any actor who is currently hot and hoping for the best.

Because most often producers and directors both don't recognize and respect the material, or try to distance their efforts from it. Put their mark upon it and make it their own. Again while not trying or bother to understand the history and background of what they're suppose to be working with,

Its because these games are usually launched close to when the film releases so people are in the mood for that game, and buy it regardless of review scores.

Publishers know this so they throw the least amount money into making them as possible, maybe using a dev team with very little experience. And in the likely event they do use a good team they will give them very little time to produce a quality product.

The licence usually costs a lot too so its a fine balance between money spent on development and money spent on the license.

Edit: spelling :(

Hehe, i totally read that headline wrong didn't I?

same thing goes for games that are from movies, and the number 1 culprit is timing, the game/movie is approved at the last minute and is giving a very very short time to be developed and so corners are cut and content is half finished and thus you have a half completed game or a half completed movie.

Why Silent Hill Will Never Be the Same

Estelle Mejia says: Silent Hill, for those who don’t know, is a psychological horror survival series that has declined somewhat. Fans point to the fact that the original team who helmed Silent Hill 1-4, named Team Silent, has been split, either working on different games for Konami or leaving the company altogether. This has left the series without a consistent team to helm the series for about 20 years, give or take.
