Why don't people just play a game they bought while downloading from PSN that makes it to seem faster.I'll usually just jump on Warriors orochi 3 and in 3-4 matches my download is done.

Abriael3863d ago

Haha, well some people are impatient. Remember the whines about the long installation times of GT5?

RyuCloudStrife3863d ago (Edited 3863d ago )

I guess the PSN download speeds are a real issue to some people... I never had an issue, I've downloaded from PSN at a rate of 2-3 MBs a second....

I thought Xbox users used that reason to troll..

Abriael3863d ago

@RyuCloudStrife: I have to say they've always been very slow for me, but they improved very recently. I was amazed when I managed to download 7 GB of FFXIV in about an hour (yeah I know it's still a lot for 7 GB, but compared to the old times it was lightning fast)

dantesparda3862d ago

I know im getting around 8 to 1- megabit per sec. I can actually test it. Plus i can see it doing about a 1 megabyte per sec or little faster. I think the problem is the peple that have 50mbps i dont think they get full speed. So i know they definitely do at least 8 to 10mbps but dont think they go as high as 50mbps

Transporter473862d ago

@ryucloudstrife

Honestly it depends on your internet speed, I download anywhere from 2-5MBs then again i pay $87 per month for my internet. I never had an issue downloading anything.

Volkama3862d ago

I started playing Heavy Rain for the first time last night. It wants to download a patch about 1.2gb, and it estimates it will take 90 minutes.

I played offline, and let it attempt it's download while I'm at work today.

Needs improvement if I'm going to be able to take advantage of the play-while-you-download and streaming type features of the PS4...

DragonKnight3862d ago

I don't know if this is true for everyone, but I have found that if I'm playing a game like Dark Souls while downloading a game off PSN, the download will not progress until I stop playing. That may happen for others.

MazzingerZ3862d ago

PSN was free so it didn't have as much servers as XBL, I never experienced slow DL speed on X360 nor PSN but it was probably due PSN had a closer server and I had a good internet connection (100 Mbps)

Now when online on PSN is not free SONY will have more servers, PSN+ is worth more than online gaming anyway so no surprise there

ZoyosJD3862d ago

@DragonKnight

It's dependent on the game. It seems to work more often with SP games that aren't graphically or HDD intensive. With games like Dark Souls that have persistent online I wouldn't expect to be able to use the feature.

caperjim3862d ago

Download speed is one of the downsides to Playstation for me. I can download full retail games from Steam/Xbox quickly but a simple update for my PS3 takes far longer then it should.

darthv723862d ago

the speed of downloads was not really an issue. some downloads were faster than others.

For me it was that the download and installation are two separate instances.

i dont know how live does it but when you download something, it installs at the same time. so when you get the notification that it is done you can start playing.

With the PS store, you download something and then you have to wait for it to unpack and install which can take a few minutes to several depending on the size of the install file.

With the ps4, they say you can play while its downloading and installing so that is a very good thing to look forward to.

badz1493862d ago

@DragonKnight

unlike Vita, PS3 can't download anything off PSN while playing ANY game online. I noticed that my download status is pending while playing FIFA connected to to EA server even WITHOUT playing online! it's very annoying tbh but once I knew about it, I now always leave my PS3 ON when I am downloading something and let it shut itself down when it's done.

oh and my internet connection is a mere 1Mbps so it usually takes sometime for downloads to finish. downloading torrents on my pc simultaneously is not helping too.

but I agree that it's getting better nowadays as the download speed indeed has been increased. downloads are done faster nowadays. recent example is Puppeteer. I finished downloading it in less than 4 hours.

Jack_Of_All_Blades3862d ago

It didn't even take that long, babies. And YES Sony, YES! Keep up the good work!!! http://www.reactiongifs.com...

Baka-akaB3862d ago (Edited 3862d ago )

Speed varies , i have no more issues downloading on PSN than on XBL . One wasnt quicker than the other .... EXCEPT that patches and firmware takes forever on PSN .

"PS3 can't download anything off PSN while playing ANY game online. I noticed that my download status is pending while playing FIFA connected to to EA server even WITHOUT playing online!"

That's not it actually . Some games cut off your downloads when online . Like fifa and street fighter 4 .

Alot of ps3 games wont allow downloading while playing...

Majin-vegeta3863d ago

I think it has to be diskless give it try.

paul-p19883862d ago (Edited 3862d ago )

Yup, had that problem myself. It's the games that are offline but have an online leaderboard or another insignificant area of the game that uses the internet and because of that i can't download a game whilst playing that game... annoying...

Thehyph3862d ago

@eyeDEVOUR it's true of course.

It's an issue that's solved for next gen though. In fact it's solved now on vita. Nothing can stop a vita from background downloading. You can also play a game while the patch for that game is downloading in the background. Ps3 has never let you do that.

MizTv3862d ago

I thought only if you are playing online it won't download

admiralvic3862d ago

@ MizTV

Some games work like that, where as others will completely disable it while playing.

You can play while downloading?

Abriael3863d ago

Maybe he has two PS3s?

Majin-vegeta3863d ago (Edited 3863d ago )

I think diskless games will let you as long as you're not playing online.I play PS1,PS2 and PS3 games i have bought from the store while downloading.

@Abriael I only have 1 PS3.

nunley333862d ago

yes i can download while playing a game but it seems to depend from game to game. it'll be with every game on ps4.i never had an issue with the psn downloads, i own a 360 and it's just as fast or faster than xbl,it's more to do with the user's net. I will get like 10mb up on psn,it'fast enough for that. you won't get your 50mb on it but ps4 looks to faster with its improved psn+gaikai.

Persistantthug3862d ago

@AceBlazer13,

Yes....You can play most single player games while downloading....from disk or from hardrive.

nunley333862d ago

my gawd that internet signal you used to download that was beyond slow,is that 56k you have there? i kid but no online service is that slow,upgrade your net. i cyrsis2 in 2hrs i think or faster and that's with it's dlc too. cyrsis 2 is alot bigger..p

Sono4213862d ago

holy shit mate.. you can't blame PSN for that.. that's your connection.

Iv'e never took that long to download anything

Johnny Jiron3862d ago

He isn't alone. Back when I had my PS3 and 360, my PS downloads took an absurd amount of time while the 360 downloads were quick. I tested the speeds out by downloading a video that was available to both stores. What took the 360 a minute to do, the PS3 took 15.

Now the stranger thing is, my friends Playstation down the road downloaded stuff just as fast as my 360. We both use Comcast and both had the same internet plan. So it very much is a person to person deal.

360ICE3862d ago

Tons of games don't support simultaneous downloads. In fact, I think most don't now. One of the things Sony did to free RAM for the developers to use, I believe.

kazuma9993862d ago

Physical discs. Problem solve.

Blaze9293862d ago (Edited 3862d ago )

"Don’t expect it for launch, as it will be introduced afterwards with a patch."

Hmm i wonder how long after launch exactly we'll have to wait for HDMI capturing. So as far as that goes, I guess it was true on the PS4 not supporting it. But they'll do a 180 on that decision and patch it later after hearing all the outcry about it. Cool.

...oh, what we can only say 180 and point out decision changes if it's Microsoft? lol

Majin-vegeta3862d ago (Edited 3862d ago )

How can it be a 180 if Sony never said it to begin with??It was the retards over at machinima who said they weren't *Facepalm*.

AridSpider3862d ago

@Majin-vegeta

"How can it be a 180 if Sony never said it to begin with??It was the retards over at machinima who said they weren't *Facepalm*.
"

Machinima said Sony wasn't doing something on PS4 and wanted to increase awareness to change that.

People complained.

Sony will release a patch after release to fix it - as it wasn't originally planned.

But Machinima are the retards o_O?

180

BlackTar1873862d ago

Took me less then 1.5 hrs to fully DL GTA and install it. Was happy with that time

Deadpoolio3862d ago

Thats what I used to do until I got FiOS. Now everything Downloads in 2 minutes or less for large files and 30 seconds for most of the small stuff....

It also helps when you know how to actually setup your router and when you actually use a wired connection, unlike those who just jizz at the thought of having that wireless....

Basic networking 101 tells you that if someone with a wired connection gets on the network they are going to get the needed bandwidth before that wireless signal

s8anicslayer3862d ago (Edited 3862d ago )

They forget that one of the new PS4/PSN features is the ability of playing your game while downloading,I think that's what Yosh is talking about when he said faster.

Hopefully download speeds will be much improved thanks to the large influx of PS+ members coming to PlayStation. More good news for PS4

qzp3863d ago

They talked about download speed, servers cost a lot of money to run so with PS+ needed for online play I would gladly pay 5$ to help sony maintain a better faster network. Not to mention all other PS+ benefits.

"Got that one right, Shu!"

Kind of ironic when Sony is focused on GaaS like never before.

Flakegriffin353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Companies evolve overtime. Sony has implemented themselves in the single player space relatively well. Now they can expand further by doing more all while still giving us single player experiences. Obviously Shu is speaking on GaaS games being the main dominance of the gaming space and if that’s the future then that indeed sucks.

You can have that mindset all while still creating some GaaS titles.

InUrFoxHole353d ago

They have 10 in the works right now.

Crows90353d ago

Absolutely! Man all the freaking gaas games theyve been releasing...wait. Not a single one.

sinspirit353d ago

Did you read? It says "dominated". That word means something.

RedDevils353d ago

They don't want to be Blockbuster, too stubborn to adapt with time.

tagzskie353d ago

kinda ironic when it comes to xbox you xboys can even defeat einstein in explation why its good, when it comes to ps you guys became dumb and dumber..

FinalFantasyFanatic353d ago

How so? They're only after one or two good GaaS games, they're throwing crap at the wall until something sticks, alot of those games in development are going to languish and die shortly after release. They're still predominately focused on their core strategy of great single player games (look at the previous interview where they admit they cancel alot of games).

Bathyj353d ago

God why do Xbox gamers always love the thought of PlayStation being as crappy as Xbox.?

DarXyde353d ago

"Like never before" regarding GaaS is like saying "PS3 is a console that launched with HDD space like never before": it's a very low bar to clear because there isn't much precedent.

I happen to agree with Shu here. I don't think being a GaaS title is a scarlet letter, but I can't think of any live service games that have been great at launch either. Naughty Dog is looking likely break that trend. I'd say two love service titles at a time is the sweet spot. I suspect people can only deal with a limited number of live service games contemporaneously.

TheCaptainKuchiki353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

Lmaooo
People always criticize Sony because 90% of their exclusives are single player games. People say they are too expensive because of low replay value.
And you wanna pretend like Sony is focusing on Gaas? Their biggest games aren't Gaas unlike MICROSOFT.

ModsDoBetter353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

How are Sony focused on GaaS?

They own Bungie and have Destiny but the majority of their titles are far from GaaS.

Why, if you are such a die hard Xbot, do you rush to comment on Sony related articles?

1Victor353d ago

@obscure
Are you ok now we was worried about your mental health state when you disappeared for almost a week from bashing PlayStation articles.
Is the word DENIED still triggering you?

I haven’t read the article as my spam blocker always red flags that site and I don’t t want to risk it so a general comment it is 🤦🏿
We all know live services game and quality rarely goes together but some of them are fun to play

derek353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

@Obscure, Sony is starting from a place of zero which requires a big initial investment to establish themselves in the live services market.

Vengeance1138353d ago

It's very much the opposite, Shu said this damn well knowing Sony is going hard on GaaS. This is Shu confirming that Single player games won't be effected at all despite them going into Live service.

Extermin8or3_353d ago

Except they aren't really- they have what may be a live service game from Haven studios and firewalk studios, they have another from a second party dev and an fps game with multiplayer focus by deviation games, they counted Gt7 as a live service game but really it's not much different to how recent GT titles were treated, they have the last of us factions, a Horizon multiplayer game in production at guerilla alongside horizon 3, a new ip from Bungie. The rest of their studios seem to be hard at work on traditional singleplayer games that may also have a multiplayer mode or may not. So their live service titles are mostly in development from either new teams setup at existing studios or from acquisitions they have made which really just replace the capabilities they once had through Sony Online Entertainment until they sold it half a decade ago. Only I'd argue their new capabilities in this space would appear to be better and have higher quality talent than it did back then.

S2Killinit354d ago

Thank god for actual gamers in the industry.

neutralgamer1992354d ago

Shu I agree but right now Sony themselves are working on more than 5 live service games

Redemption-64354d ago

He never said they were not working on any. He said, he doesn't want to see Gaming's Future dominated by live-Service Games. Sony currently has 25 games in development. 10 being live service games, with the other mostly likely being single player games and that is honestly a very good balance

neutralgamer1992354d ago

I agree I just hope their live service games are not simple money grabs and try to do some good interesting things

-Foxtrot353d ago

"and that is honestly a very good balance"

The issue is, whether people want to admit it or not because it's Sony, but once a company gets a taste of that money GaaS games make the chances of them going money crazy becomes super higher

I know what you'll probably say

"bu bu but Sony wouldn't do that"

NO COMPANY is immune, even the best can fall and I really don't want to see that happen here.

The fact people will completely blow that off and pretend it's not even a possibility is worrying to me because that's how we end up shits creek.

They might be fine...they might go too far but at the moment I don't think it's a bad thing at all to be sceptical with the shit this industry has gone through in the past 10 years alone.

FinalFantasyFanatic353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

The thing is most of those 10 games won't even be viable, out of the 10 that actually get released, probably only 1 or 2 will make the big bucks worth continuing support. I think Sony even knows that, look at all the other GaaS games that release and die shortly after. Personally I'm okay with that because I don't want the market dominated with these games.

I'd actually rather the resources go on to making some more top-tier JRPGs, I feel like we don't get enough of those in the last couple of gens.

neutralgamer1992353d ago

Final Fantasy

But keep in mind when those games fail many of the studios are shut and there are layoffs

__SteakDeck__353d ago

@-Foxtrot What do you have against live service games. I’m not a fan of live service games, but multiplayer games can be done right just look at Titanfall before EA killed it. As long as PS’s core studios keep making single player games, everything should be fine.

Redemption-64353d ago

Sony said they have 25 games in development. 10 being live service games, with the other mostly likely being single player games. They have more single player games in development

-Foxtrot353d ago

@__SteakDeck__

Urm....that they are a cancer in this industry

That the majority of them fail and the developers have then wasted years on them rather than other things.

They turn developers and publishers into thirsty little money grabbers where that big money is still not enough for them.

I could go on, defending GaaS games is not a hill to die on man, it's really not

"done right just look at Titanfall before EA killed it"

Titanfall 2 was not really a GaaS type of game compared to what we are getting now so that's a really bad example.

__SteakDeck__353d ago

@-Foxtrot Yeah it seems like you just have a hatred for multiplayer games. I’m not the biggest fan of multiplayer games, but like I said they can be done well. Also Titanfall 1 had no single player it was multiplayer only and it’s now a dead game, but it was still good. So yes that is a good example.

FinalFantasyFanatic353d ago

@_SteakDeck_,
I'm still salty about Titanfall 2, it was one of the only multi-player games I actually liked.

NotoriousWhiz353d ago

Multi-player games don't have to be Gaas games. Look at Mario Kart, Splatoon. Nintendo's games most likely don't have Gaas because they're behind the times, but this is one area where it's better to be behind the times.

+ Show (3) more repliesLast reply 353d ago
blackblades353d ago

And? They still have single player games. Domination would completely ruled with live services which Sony should know to still do single player. On a side note they should also do a few 1st party smaller games like indie or AA. By the way is indie a single A game.

Philaroni353d ago (Edited 353d ago )

To be fair, so has many other companies aka Ubisoft for example and many of them they decided to end development on. Just because something is in the works does not mean it will release if they do not feel it will pan out. ATM all of the GaaS we know of from Sony are The Last of Us Factions, and some kind of Horizon (Monster Hunter like) game. Also keep in mind, they do own Bungie, and Destiny and there new project be it Destiny 3 and there new IP will likely be that. So just that on its own is near half of what we can best assume.

Main issue with GaaS now days is that its very over saturated. Keep in mind as well Battel Royal games are GaaS by nature also, hell CoD is GaaS. Halo Infinity, ditto. Really now days unless something is an honest to god single player game only the GaaS term gets over used.

Not sure if many played it (I loved it) Gun's Up was a GaaS for a long while, it was going to shut down till some youtubers gave it a bit of new life for another half of year. We know Sony Mobile is working on things and it not shock me if some of this stuff is targeted to the mobile market.

Right now Sony's biggest weakness I'd say is MP games. With that Firewalk studio from lots of vets they just acquired its quite likely there game will have GaaS stuff as part of it, that is still years down the line. I think everyone needs to chill out some and just wait and see what comes. We have not really got a real honest GaaS from Sony before this or even last gen really... At least as we know them now days. Such a broad term now.
