If he hates that, he really loved when XBone players are called Xboners. Even though I'm getting the One, the name sucks. I feel like Infinity was the choice early on, but they wanted to surprise people came up with what they thought was so clever.
Clarence  +   386d ago
Well DRM policies were pretty disrespectful. 24hr check in was pretty disrespectful. His lying all summer is pretty disrespectful.

All in all the xbone is pretty disrespectful.
Evil_Ghosty  +   386d ago
I find it funny that at work all Xbone One products have the prefix Xbone in our database. "Xbone Wireless Controller"
H0RSE  +   385d ago
Saying "Xbone One" is a redundancy. You are essentially saying "Xbox One One."
Enigma_2099  +   386d ago
Oh I dunno, maybe you should have thought of tat before you pissed off your customers...
SpideySpeakz  +   386d ago
Xbone is still a better name than Xbox One. He should be happy.

Is it just me or does "XBone" keep digging themselves into a deeper hole? They keep trying to defend themselves in unprofessional ways. "Gamers don't understand" or "It is very disrespectful when you..." XBox One Executives keep fueling the fire.

Stop pointing fingers and complaining. Start telling people what your console is good at and stop telling people what it is not bad at. It's not gonna help us change our mind.
H0RSE  +   385d ago
In all fairness, NOTHING they do will change the minds of many people. In addition, they have been explaining what the "X1" (so much better than "Xbone") can not only do, but what capabilities it has over the competition.
ShwankyShpanky  +   385d ago
It certainly does have some great TV-centric capabilities: http://www.comcast.com/X1

Not only did they not have the foresight to predict the nickname, they can't even use the less derogatory "X1" abbreviation in any advertising material or official capacity. Hell, even offhanded casual mention of "X1" by MS employees could open them up to a trademark infringement case. Whoopsy doodle.

Cernunnos  +   386d ago
Probably should've thought of that before they named it then...
fluxmulder  +   385d ago
I don't get this guy. Why is he the MS spokesperson? To me he just comes off as an awkward looking middle-aged dude trying to be hip with the kids using a nickname.
illustratedDEO  +   385d ago
I know right i prefer CrossBone better
MicDude  +   385d ago
I think he shouldn't care what other people think; if he's proud of the console he helped create then he should show it. Don't let haters get to you.

Ahem...

XBONE XBONE XBONE! Hehe!

If he didn't know already... XBONE stands for XB(X-box)ONE(One).

>I don’t like it…
>It’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself.

So what is it then?

if the company and the system doesnt even respect its demographic, then why the hell should the demographic respect them?

Major Nelson is an absolute moron.
sic_chops  +   385d ago
Well, his twitter is @majornelson. Hit him up... Sure he will love that
Yodagamer  +   385d ago
What did you expect you named your console the nickname of an older console. Of course there was going to be a nickname to seperate it from the old nickname.
TheKingslayer  +   385d ago
Xbox One + X 1= Xbox Won...So its XWon.
The systems is a winner with gamers.

No slight to the PS4. Xbone just has always been something haters used. From now on...I'm calling it X1 or XWON

XWON = "Zwon"
H0RSE  +   385d ago
Ahhh, the thick "2 wrongs make a right" mentality amongst the comments, reminds me of one of the reasons why I overall hate humanity...

If you read his comment in the article, you would see that laughing and joking at the expense of Nelson, is a little misplaced:

"I don’t like it…it disrespects the teams that have put in thousands of hours (already) into the development of the product. Sure, it’s cheeky but I don’t care for it myself."

Regardless what you think of Nelson, who is reminiscent of a creepy used car salesman that stalks internet dating sites, he is speaking for the individuals that worked on the console, many of which were not responsible for the PR or any of the aspects that has caused uproar and resistance amongst the community.
ShwankyShpanky  +   385d ago
I don't think I saw anyone at Sony making public statements complaining that people were calling the Move a "space dildo," which I'd consider a bit more disrespectful than "Xbone."

(I actually referred to it as a Space Dildo when I was asking a GS employee about a release date, and again when I asked a different GS clerk to ring one up. Don't worry... no kids in the store at the time)
TheKingslayer  +   385d ago
What if people started calling the Playstation 4. POS4 aka Piece of Sh$t 4? Would that stand well with any gamer? I don't think so. Major Nelson, and others who don't like it I believe have a point. At the end of the day, it's up to the community to decide what it becomes.

XWON...
H0RSE  +   385d ago
Their (weak) argument is that in this case, XBox or MS, "deserve" the ridicule...
marcindpol  +   385d ago
Every time I hear or see Xbone in the news I draw a picture of erected penis in my mind, or a boner if you prefer..

Frankly a lot of memes are retarded, but maybe he should leave his feelings at the front porch.
xDHAV0K24x  +   385d ago
Will be calling it X1 or just xbox. Same goes for cellphones. I dont say i own a gs3. Just galaxy. I never hear ppl say they own an iphone 4 or 5. Plain old iphone. Also, when it comes to ipods, no one ever specefies which model they have on them
The_Sneauxman  +   385d ago
When I tell people what phone I have it's always "The S3". When I'm referring to my iPod I call it "The iPod 4g".
My:
Xbox 360= 360
PlayStation = PS1
PlayStation 2= PS2
PlayStation 3= PS3
soon-to-be PlayStation 4= PS4
Gameboy Color = GBC

So why should the XBone be different
xDHAV0K24x  +   385d ago
"oh hey i just put some songs onto my ipod 4g"

"Quick take a pic with my iphone 5"

GTFO

It should be relevant by your examples why it should be different.

In every example you game, the abbreviation is simply the relevant letters in caps and a number, if applicable. This has been the standard for virtually every game device - NES, SNES, 3DS, N64, etc. There is no shortening or blending of words, like with "XBone." Following this theme, the Xbox One would simply be "X1" or "XB1" or even "XBO." You don't see people referring to the PS4 as the "PSfour," do you?

The_Sneauxman  +   385d ago
You're right I say , "hangon lemme download that mp3 real quick". "Quick take a pic with my phone".

We were talking about referencing in specifics. If you say "hey have you played Metal Gear Solid on Playstation?" a few questions can arise so to clarify you say, "Hey have you played Metal Gear Solid 4 on the PS3?" See the difference butthurt man.

Saying X1 sounds stupid to me, my opinion.

Xbone just seems like a term that fits. The word itself doesn't imply anything so why the butthurt?

EDIT: I can't believe I had to explain an English lesson on "Problems of Generality with Speech".. WTF

Two things came to mind initially.

1) If I named a daughter McKenzie, I should expect a nickname to be applies like "Mac". Think ahead when naming stuff.

2) Will the "fanboy wars" be between "sonymites" and "boners"? If not, it should be.
IanVanCheese  +   385d ago
As soon as you said MacKenzie I immediately though of MacKenzee Pierce...that is the real reason I will never call my daughter MacKenzee lol.

IanVanCheese  +   385d ago
I actually like the name Xbone lol. It should definitely have been called the Xbox Infinity or Fusion though.
Robotronfiend  +   385d ago
Might have been too close to Xfinity for (legal) comfort. I still say hardcore "only-buying-a-Microsoft- console" fans be known as "Boners" in the next gen.
