Was The Division’s Gameplay at E3 Deceptive?

Gi - After a bio-terror attack throws the city of New York into chaos, players as an agent of The Division, a trained unit of self-supporting tactical agents, are activated. Their mission: to take back New York and how, as well as with whom, players complete their objective is their choice. The anticipation for The Division has been stoked into a wildfire by all of the information released during and after E3, but too much hype has the ugly side effect of priming people for a letdown.

For those who don't feel like reading.

The author feels that the game will be disappointing because it emphasizes cooperative play that he feels is part of PC game culture but absent from console gaming culture... unless you play with friends.

And to him I say... yeah no shit Sherlock. Any game that emphasizes co-op play is better played with people who you already know you can cooperate with. Don't wanna play co-op with random strangers? Then don't. Get a group together and schedule a night everyone plays it. Simple.

EDIT:
And in response to his comment
"get a good squad together, but what if you cannot?"

Then start making more friends with a similar hobby.

Mhmm , I totally agree with you. Frankly all of Ubisoft's games that had a showing clearly have a co-op focus to them. That being said, they seemed quite firm on this point that, if you don't have friends to play with and you don't want to play with strangers it's quite possible to play alone still.

Most co-op optional games are designed around the idea that co-op can make it more fun, but playing it solo is still very much an option.

Like FarCry3!!!!????? Wow what an incredible multiplayer and co op expierience!!!!!!!!! Derp fuck you for not patching your game and losing the mapmaking community fucksake. Not one patch in 5 months and you didnt fix anything with the first 2 patches.

Well, the problem lies in what happens when the friends in your group aren't available when you want to play the game? That is a valid concern, as is your progression in a game like this where your experience is heavily tied to others persistent cooperation. This game was the most interesting to me from all those shown at E3, but I would love to know more about how the matchmaking is going to work, and how you level your character, how large your group can be, and how you can progress when others you may play with aren't available. I'm a single player gamer first and foremost, primarily because I don't like my enjoyment of a title to be determined primarily by the influence other gamers exert in the gameworld, rather than what the developer intended. I need a compelling storyline to keep me coming back for more, which is why games like The Last of Us, Uncharted 2, Mass Effect, and God of War 3 are some of my favorites of the current gen opposed to titles like Cod or Battlefield. I just hope The Division turns out as good as it's potential suggests it could be, and that the story matches the visuals.

The one thing that I really liked in this game was the way the voice of players were integrated into the game to give that radio-type sound if you know what I mean? I haven't seen a game do that.

I wonder if the game will incorporate your voice and change it so it sounds like you're communicating through the radio.

tigertron3945d ago

It could just be to show that you're communicating through a headset, not sure if it'll change your voice to make it sound like you're talking through a radio.

Either way I'm really looking forward to this.

Geared towards multi-player or not I'm still looking forward in purchasing and playing this game in single mode.

Heard voice-over dialogue was staged.. but whether or not it did give a feeling of desensitization which I find very worrying. It's very robotic and doesn't give the game ( on the demo anyway ) justice.

I am in absolute agreement with the OP 👌

I hate when I see single player games and see people begging for multi-player. Jeez guys it don't need to be on every game. Latest one I seen was atomic heart.

Multiplayer or even co-op

If it was always a single player game then that's how it is

Inverno381d ago

It's a trend that never really went away. For me multiplayer in a primarily SP focused game was an excuse for DLC. Then there's the mentality gamers had that adding multiplayer makes a game worth the price, otherwise it should be half price for half a game. A way of thinking devs reassured when they started adding multiplayer to their sequels. We see the same with multiplayer focused games getting SP in their sequels.

Flawlessmic381d ago

Tbh multilayer now is a way to add live service and mtx elements, very rarely does it come of well.

What single players game used to be in a lot of cases now require 3 other people for keeping to really enjoy it and I hate having to rely on others to get the maximum from a game.

Sp should be sp, if devs want to add a separate multi mode then that's fine with me, the legends addition to ghost of tshushima was fricking sick but totally separate to the main game. Sick of co op too.

Hofstaderman381d ago

I remember when certain single player games had them as included optional modes that was played on the couch. Had brilliant times with Syphon Filter and Golden Eye. Me and my bro used to used to fight over who would play as Gabe even though it was technically just a skin. Good times.

Dagexon381d ago

I didn't notice your comment before I added mine.
But good times indeed
