Game Gear owners had it rough. Not only did the handheld drain batteries quickly, but it never saw the level of support of its competitor, the Game Boy. However, the Game Gear did have its fair share of exclusives, including several Sonic the Hedgehog games. Sonic Blast, which was released at the same time as Sonic 3D Blast on Genesis, is one of them. Pocket Gamer: Sonic Blast Review

Pocket Gamer: In 1996 the Game Gear was on its last legs. Support for it would end the following year, releases were beginning to dry up entirely, and the capabilities of it as a system had seemingly been fully explored.

Sonic Blast was released that year, and though it makes a few visual compromises it's an otherwise impressive title that platformer fans would do well to investigate.
