I love making lists because A: they're fun, and B: they get people talking! Linked above are my picks, but what about yours? I mean, I put Mortal Kombat in the list... there's gotta be some crazy stuff you guys and gals would include in your Top 10. Is Carmageddon post-apocalyptic? Haha.

Haha, awesome. At first I was like Bole...? Then it hit me-- Oh yeah, that place!

That's a good list really. Not much to add. In Fallout3 and TLOU when you rummage through houses it gives you a feeling of complete isolation. And reading journals and diaries you really feel for the people that had their lives come to a sad end. Gut wrenching feeling really. But that's what makes those games great.

I can only imagine what Fallout 4 could look like on PS4/Xbox One/PC. They've probably got their work cut out for them visually also, with how amazing the modding community has made those games (FO3 and New Vegas) look over the years.

And I agree, the stories form within the diaries and leftovers from peoples' abandoned houses tell chilling tales within the broader scope of these adventures. It's great stuff from a storytelling perspective.

Star ocean did a great job of it actually, had WWIII a heavy nuclear war and then we advance space tech to generate jump technology and go planet hunting for a new world.

Oh wow, great pick! S.O. never crossed my mind but you're so right!

In addition to that list

Borderlands 1, 2, and Rage

While not "apocalypse" Bioshock did a great job of making you felt trapped and alone and against all odds. Literally caught in a madhouse where you used and did everything to survive.

Same for Metroid Prime 1 and 2, it was the planet's own apocalypse where it was one woman against the world. You learned of the planet's sade fate and a reminder it's just one planet out of infinite.

I recently picked up Fallout 3 and the more I play it the more I enjoy it. One thing it does a great job of is bring the possibility there is life after an apocalypse, that just because Earth doesn't look the same doesn't mean it isn't our planet. You really want to explore the rest of the world because the little area you're in is so well made.

ah, fallout the complete rip off of a boy and his dog. the only great videogame here is the last of us.

I've never seen that film, is it any good?

its very good. even bioshock takes liberty when they get underneath the desert. its sort of offbeat but it came out way before mad max.

Oh, come on! Final Fantasy X!

Interesting choice. FFVIII would count, too, in that respect.

Post-apocalyptic? How so?

Remember that the entire continent of Cetra was turned into a crater (that southern area of the map where the white seed ship was hiding) and whatever caused that was likely the same reason the gardens were first made (their original purpose was as mobile shelters, after all). Anything large enough to wipe out a whole continent would have done a number on the whole world. There's also that strange, unexplained crater near Trabia garden that makes Balamb garden's controls go haywire.

Something bad happened. Really bad.

TLOU and Fallout 3

My other one would be State of Decay (Post - Zombies)

Enslaved: Odyssey to the West. It has Andy Serkis and Ashley Johnson (Ellie from The Last of Us). Really underappreciated game this generation.
LarVanian  +   433d ago
Ashley Johnson wasn't in Enslaved. You must be thinking of Lindsey Shaw who played Trip.

"Rage" deserves more credit than its gotten.

Fallout series does "Post Apocalyptic" the best and at a massive scale.
