It's more than just the self-publishing issue (some people believe that if ONLY Microsoft would allow self-publishing, all would be forgiven).

It's all of the other problems, too. Microsoft dictates when your game can launch. IIRC, Microsoft dictates the price of your game. Microsoft dictates whether or not you're allowed to be on XBLA at all (based on their policy that you must maintain parity if it's a multiplat game).

Microsoft created a lot of restrictions because - for a time - they were THE go-to spot for indies on consoles. Now that has changed and now they don't have the installed base to muscle people around.

A shame indie developers won't be able to self-publish on the Xbox One.

Yeah it quite frankly it's a pretty horrible thing.

It's like the big kid in class who tortures you for your lunch money. I've always gone to PC over my 360 or PS3 for indie titles. I'll be looking forward to seeing a lot of the Indie on Ps4. But I'd also like to see Microsoft treat Indie Devs with some more respect so we can get some great Indies on the X1

In my opinion, Indie will be the next AAA and the worse their treated the less fun experiences we'll have.

I don't know why we feel like we have to tell Microsoft how to deal with their business.
Indie developers have other options so it's ultimately their choice.
Would it be better if they had self-publishing? Probably, but this problem is not for us to deal with.

I don't know why everyone cares so much about Indies. I have looked through the Xbox indie catalog and it has around 3000 titles. 3x as many as arcade titles.

But the problem is that the games themselves don't look good from the galleries provided. I don't know how to find the gems and in the end ignore the games.

The way I look at it is that with a publisher it's at least keeping the total down from 10000.

Someone enlighten me on what games to get excited about in the indie scene please. Thanks.

The whole point is instead of paying $60 for a 20 hour game you can get a 10 hour game for $10. If you're a game like Castle Crashers you get a hundred hours for $15. Indie games can be very innovative or unique and sell well below the cost of mainstream games

Castle crashers isn't an indie game though. It's a mainstream arcade title. I think you have a misconception of what an indie title is.

I love the small budget arcade titles (got over a 100) just not the indie ones. Look at the marketplace. They're broken off into their own section.

Please let me know good actual indie releases.

MS is still in this ancient time of game publishing with their rules.

it makes absolutely no sense why an indie developer would need to go through a publisher and split their cost.

I've said it before, I'll say it again. Let them come over to Sony, because one day under Sony's nurturing wing, these guys will turn into the next Naughty Dog or the next Guerilla Games.
It will be these people who bring the next big IP or the next big innovation to the PS brand.
