Let's hope this doesn't remove any of the quality.
s8anicslayer  +   973d ago
Nintedo's stance since the days of the N64 "Quality before Quantity". That's ok for 1st party games but the fact that most devs making games for the 360 and PS3 are just skipping the WiiU is unfortunate and it's only going to get worse when next gen sets in. With any one aside from nintendo at least.

nintendo made majora's mask in less than a year -_-
NeXXXuS  +   973d ago
^technology also wasn't as advanced as it is now. the average time it takes to make a game is about 3-4 years when work is put into it.

well the locations in the game is kind of centralised, not to say OOT wasnt in that sense.

so it just seems easier to do i guess
cpayne93  +   973d ago
Back in those days things were different. If I remember correctly, goldeneye was made by a team of 12 people. Games are much more detalied nowadays due to more detailed graphics, animations, and voice acting. Plus mm used a lot of precedents set in ocarina of time, so it took less effort.
BosSSyndrome  +   973d ago
That's because it used many assets from OoT.

Nintendo, STAPPP!!

shut down DAT mario factory now
kirbyu  +   973d ago

shut down DAT disagree factory now
solidt12  +   973d ago
Hey Wo there. Stop that. I might be a straight up Playstation fan now but I grew up playing Mario on the NES. They better not shut down that Mario Factory, they just need to create some new IP's to compliment their collection of classic IP's.
ElitaStorm  +   973d ago
i grew up playing mario aswell but dont you think it would be great to see another new IP just as fun as mario then a new mario?
NameRemoved0017  +   973d ago
Better for the game to be polished at launch than to be an unfixable pile of crap.
mitchell1188  +   973d ago
COD on vita for
BosSSyndrome  +   973d ago
At least that's a fixable pile of crap.
fatstarr  +   973d ago
thats fixed with DLC patches Lmao.
sway_z  +   973d ago
There's a fine line between quality & quantity...Ninty need that balance.
TXIDarkAvenger  +   973d ago
I believe they have that balance. They don't pump out shitty half-done games and add paid DLC later.
LOL_WUT  +   973d ago
New Super Luigi U says hi ;)
_QQ_  +   973d ago
New super Luigi isn't bad DLC, an entire game for 20$? and almost a year after the original game released.
AznGaara  +   973d ago
If Naughty Dog can churn out The Last of Us in 3 years I'm sure Nintendo can do the same with Zelda.
AsheXII  +   973d ago
Zelda games are a lot bigger and more gameplay driven than TLoU though.
dantesparda  +   973d ago
wait, what? alot bigger and more gameplay driven? give me the copies of Zelda you've been playing
_QQ_  +   973d ago
@dantesparda Skyward sword takes at least 30 hours to beat skipping side quests ect, Last of us is said to take max 18 hours.
dantesparda  +   972d ago
ok, i'll give you longer/more time, but more gameplay driven? really?
leemass24  +   973d ago
one thing you can rely on is when nintendo makes a game its a high quality game no need for constant updates to fix bugs sure there are some but not near as much as other developers.
Knushwood Butt  +   973d ago
Yeah, like snaking in mario kart DS, which totally broke online play and Nintendo NEVER fixed it.

Oh wait
leemass24  +   973d ago
i was referring to consoles iv never played ds or 3ds and you clearly didnt read my post properly i said sure there are some but not near as much as other developers.

Venox2008  +   973d ago
DS didnt support patches, in 3DS Mario kart there was one track with a bug, but nintendo released online patch for a game
Knushwood Butt  +   973d ago
I read your post.

Considering the volume of titles released by Nintendo, namely few, I'd say that, 'not nearly as much as other developers', is debatable.

Mario Sunshine was full of bugs too.

Snaking in Mario Kart DS was a game breaker.
TotalSynthesisX  +   973d ago
I think Nintendo have a bit of leeway now considering the Wii U is capable of downloadable updates unlike the consoles before it. Now they don't have to make sure the game is 100% polished before release -- but let's hope they don't do like EA and leave the game a glitchy piece of junk that needs gigabytes of updates just to make the thing playable.

Nevertheless, Nintendo needs to kick things into high gear before the Wii U falls too far behind. It's already in a bad position, so Nintendo doesn't have the luxury of taking their sweet time anymore.

new fish AI for the next Zelda please.
ChickeyCantor  +   973d ago
All you really need to do is step out of your 90's software development cycles and do some agile approaches.
N4g_null  +   973d ago
They should do some free to play test and then start development when the fan base is bigger.
R00bot  +   973d ago
Did you hear? Nintendo is making a free to play game! They announced it to investors at E3.
MNGamer-N  +   973d ago
I think as soon as the new Nintendo Headquarters is finished, and the 3DS and WiiU development teams are united, we will see releases coming more quickly. However, my wallet needs a break sometimes. I am perfectly fine with waiting for quality over quantity.

I'm always the side of the wall that says to take your time with games but, Nintendo is just slow. And really, 1st party is all they have going for themselves.
mitchell1188  +   973d ago
Nintendo. You make a new epic Zelda game and I'll buy whatever console its on. They need to get busy.
sashimi  +   973d ago
HD development is whats slowing them down, Thats what happens when you have pretty much the same hardware for 2 gens and than enter HD development when all other developers are already used to it. Its just Nintendo playing catchup

N4g_null  +   973d ago
HD development slows every body down. That is a fact.
brewin  +   973d ago
Ya think. I love my Wii u, but with all of the delays of titles I was looking forward to I really wish I would have waited for a price drop/ sweet bundle. Zelda was supposed to be a simmer game and mario should be a September release with smash bros Mario kart and dk for the holidays. Pikmin W101 and rayman should all be out by now. This drought is turning off a lot of people and, while I am sure the u will be ok in the long run, Nintendo threw away any lead they could have had and the 349 struggling system is going to be a tough sell against the ps4.
Viper7  +   973d ago
Nintendo how about new Ip's?
They could allow smaller budgets and faster development times without risking the quality of existing Ip's.
#15 (Edited 973d ago ) | Agree(0) | Disagree(0) | Report | Reply
R00bot  +   973d ago
Nintendo makes new ip's, but they regularly go unnoticed, so they stick to what they know sells. "X" might be a new IP (but it looks as though it's connected to the xenoblade franchise).
Viper7  +   973d ago
You mean games like Wii sports? Or just new 3rd party games on Wii in general?

There hasn't really been anything like Pikmin was for Gamecube. A brand new IP from Nintendo themselves or at least second party.
R00bot  +   973d ago
There was Xenoblade.
CouldHaveYelledUiiW  +   973d ago
There would be nothing wrong with Nintendo creating a non -Classic/Flagship IP
and then every year releasing a new game with near identical Game play, just more maps, and a new story.

If they get a Samusverse FPS up and running they can just EA it. If the Game play is good,
it will take a while for the returns to diminish but by then the return on the Engine that was built for the game would multiply.

That said, I don’t want them to do this with Zelda.
If they want to be faster , hire more people.
HalfNerdHalfAmazing  +   973d ago
I think when it comes to games like Zelda is worth the wait but if Nintendo want to put out games sooner just hire more developers.
mydyingparadiselost  +   973d ago
I'm glad they're admitting this, I'm glad the time is taken for the games to be as good as they can be come launch but the games do need to come faster. I wonder how much of a problem was caused by moving their offices and divisions around and merging certain sectors of their game development. I would think that could slow down development a bit.
BATRA  +   973d ago
LOL_WUT  +   973d ago
In that case Nintendo should hire more people. If gamers were skeptical of buying a Wii U at launch what makes you think they'll buy one now? When most of their big franchises are releasing next year ;)
PopRocks359  +   973d ago
Except for the part that a new Mario, Zelda and Donkey Kong are releasing this year alongside Pikmin 3 and The Wonderful 101?
solidt12  +   973d ago
I can't Believe it is 2013 and Nintendo has no First party First Person Shooters in their catalog (except Metroid Prime) and it is the most popular genre.
