GR - "Many are debating whether or not this is representative of what the actual game will look like. Some say it lost a lot of quality because of compression caused by its upload to Youtube, and others think that the player is intentionally trying to make the game look bad."
During a panel at GDC 2024, Elder Scrolls Online Game Director Matt Firor noted that the MMO has generated a staggering amount of player spending over its decade of operation—almost $2 billion.
Who says a dud game can't have a video game comeback?
Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.
The Elder Scrolls Online has accumulated over 24 million players over the years. The RPG hit the milestone on its 10th anniversary.
ESO is definitely not going to last for long, but that can be said about almost any MMO these days.
I really dont get all the hate for this game.
Is there no first person? 'sorta Elder Scrolls game is this?
I kind of wish they weren't spunking the whole of Tamriel on us. Would've been nicer to have it teased out over various games. Not only that, but we're getting what looks to be a pretty uninspiring WoW-like imagining of it.
Ah, I don't want to discourage the developers, especially when the game's clearly at an early stage and the guy played it like a dope. MMOs aren't my thing so I'll probably give this a miss, but I'm sure it'll be popular with others.
Incidentally, Whatever engine they're using makes the game seems like a strange mix of Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim...
