Well, I think most of us saw that coming the moment Mike said that he was leaving his position a couple of months ago. It took him a while, but now he's off

I wonder whats going on? Its not the best sign when so many top people at Epic are leaving especially with a big game of their's releasing this month
zeal0us  +   493d ago
Well at least he's not leaving epic and moving to Zynga or similar crappy company.

I do wonder what is going on at Epic, but there is still plenty of talent left at Epic.

However, if we start seeing more people leaving and nobody joining, then Epic should really start to be concerned.

Too bad, we don't get to hear the dirty laundry until years afterwards.

Damn there dropping like flies.

Which might indicate review scores for the newest Gears game will be doing the same thing. Though hopefully not.

Didn't this all start after that Chinese company bought a major stake in them? We seriously need an answer. I don't mean to sound all entitled, but I think us gamers deserve an explanation. C'mon, let us know.

EDIT: Oh yeah, that guy has a potato head.

I don't think you're aware as to how long certain members of Epic had been working there. Cliffy B had spent a huge percentage of his life (20 years) at Epic, and wanted a break from the games industry. Rod Fergesson left to take up a higher position at Irrational and Mike Capp's stepped down last December, after working at Epic for a large amount of time so he can spend more time with his family. There's nothing suspicious to it...

Do we need a story everytime someone leaves a gaming company?

Yes

We have tons of lower-quality articles everyday. At least this is related to the actual videogame industry.

He isn't leaving in the traditional sense.

""Mike Capps is retiring from his role as president of Epic Games to take on the ultimate boss battle of fatherhood and spend more time with his family. He will continue to serve on Epic's board of directors and advise on the development of our games. We thank Mike for the 10 years he's spent leading our studio, implementing practices that enable us to create amazing games and technology, and making Epic one of the best places to work.""

That was back in December though. Mike Capps has now said "So, yes, I’m no longer affiliated with Epic. I have many wonderful memories, and wish my friends the best in their future projects."

So I don't think he's on the board of directors anymore as that would be an affiliation.

Edit: Yup. He left completely.

It seems like that Chinese company who acquired a minority stake in Epic, hasn't gone over well with top employees at Epic.
RuleofOne343  +   493d ago
Well good luck in your new Venture Mike.
Off topic with all these departures going on at Epic I think it would be in MS & Phil Spencer to inquire about buying the Gears of War IP & the developer's working on it so as to at least have the IP secured .
