thing is both consoles (ps4 and nextbox) will be trying to say we are the console that does everything we are for your living room.

But I have sky and a laptop so I got TV and internet straight away. I am still pretty much a retro gamer. I only play offline i rarely come on I like to have my single player maybe multiplayer (split screen) action and then move on.

I understand gamers want more choice and consoles need to appeal to bigger audience but honestly I am not fussed what it can do outside of playing games.

I'm eventually getting a Wii U just because of certain Nintendo exclusive games.

Not sure about PS4 vs Xbox720.

For the first time ever I'm hoping the xbox is similar to the PS4. PS$ impressed me more than I thought.

Interesting the pictures it shows, and the one that it doesn't show. All I know is it shows they either have their eyes, or mind on gaming, and Kinect will be used to speak to... a lot. Maybe like Siri. Looks like we'll have email, sharing videos/capture videos, music... all sorts of stuff. I like it. I like that there looks to be some sort of playing on your pc your xbox game, then playing it on your console when you get home, or vice versa, or on your phone and so on.

I wish these comapnies would be a bit more in touch with thier userbase. I don't recall anyone actually asking to have FB integrated with thier UI or Cable on thier Dashboard. We all Own a PC(thats why we have Live\PSN) and we all own Cable....thats why we, you know, have a TV to play games on. Stop trying to sell us something twice just because smartphones have success in the area. the Appeal with a phone is it's mobility. not impressed with FB from my livingroom

Uhhh, not everyone who owns a PS3/360 has Cable + PC just because they have internet and a TV. I know quite a few people who don't actually. So for those people, having an internet browser is useful on consoles. Having cable could also be using to certain people. I don't think it will apply to the masses like MS may think, but some people will be glad this is an option for them. Assuming MS goes through with it.

Well none of us know exactly what Nextbox and PS4 will deliver as entertainment hubs. But we can look at our current consoles. PS3 has all the entertainment facilities and capabilities you need currently, the best games. free online gaming. superior and beautiful movie playback in digital, DVD, BluRay, and streamed formats. superior audio output. many music playback and photo album options, built in Wi-Fi and a HDD in every box. DTV recorder plug in. ability to interface with your Desktop ect. The list goes on and on.
The Xbox 360 is great, but really, it can't even play a DVD properly. I could spend £9.99 at Asda and get a better movie watching experience. The Nextbox will need to do better for my money.
Talk, or text, is cheap. For the next gen I look at the superior PS3 and I trust Sony to deliver with Playstation 4.
I believe The Nextbox will be good, if I look at the capable 360, just not good enough to beat the best in my eyes.

Both the nextbox and ps4 are day1 for me. As was the WiiU, i guess i just love new gaming tech and i love to play games.

Of course I forgot to add PS3 connectivity with mobile devices. A lot is being made of this for next gen, again Sony have the form to truly create the entertainment ecosystem of the future.

It's clear to me that both systems are going to offer the same thing. Kinect/PSeye2 and Games/multimedia. The only differentiating factor will be the exclusives and any controller enhancement/options they offer.

"Xbox isn't just for hardcore gamers anymore. It's the center of a whole entertainment ecosystem that goes way beyond the living room"

That's why I prefer PS4.

I'm pretty much sticking with the next xbox. I love the service, I love the games (I'm sure they will announce new ip's as well as revive old ones) and the option to get everything in one box is good too. Kinect is pretty cool. I'm all for playing games in different ways.

I wish ms would use hvd as their disk format. That would be insane.

Sounds like it will be PS4 for me then. A games console is to play games. Simple as that.

I don't want a device that compromises it's core function for a poor imitation of my XBMCbuntu based HTPC, because not a single commercial media device has ever come close to matching the sheer number of supported codecs and features that I need and XBMC provides.

The vast majority of commercial media devices fall at the first hurdle because for some reason they simply can't even see the network file shares on my server where my 8TB of media is sitting. What good is a media device that can't access my media?

I got a bad feeling that NEXbox is going to be way different than the 360 owners want it to be

Ken Kutaragi father of the PS failed with PS3, he had the idea to improve the PS3 like media center. The first PS3 console had a lot of slots, these devices increased the cost of the PS3 and delayed it launch. We know the result. Xbox must conserve its soul of a brave device for gamers, not a toy for Kinect's dancers or a TV spot.

PS3 selling almost 80 million consoles is anything but a failure. It could have been more successful in sales but a failure it is not. If PS3 selling 80 million considered a failure then the Xbox 360 is also considered a failure, because they both sold about the same this gen.
The PS3 cost may have been high, but if you considered what was inside the original PS3 then it was a bargain.
1. You have the emotion chip to allow it to be backward compatible
2. you have blu-ray, which honestly was a very smart move by Sony. Without blu-ray we maybe seeing multiple discs games for uncharted, god of war, etc..
3. Built in Wifi
4. Free online play
5. HDMI for high definition output
6. Its was capable of playing 1080p.
7. Later they release a patch for 3D gaming and 3D movie capabilities.

The PS3 was prepared for the future. The xbox360 was great but it was not prepared for the future. I hope for the next xbox, they think ahead.

You're right, PS3 is nice, is a great device, 80 millions of units is amazing. What I mean is Kutaragi failed, like creator, because he wanted a PS3 like a media center, not like console. Later Sony made incredible efforts to recover from this mistake that cost lot of money, the company was in the edge of bankrupcy. Now Microsoft is making the same mistake, becoming the Xbox in a cable service and with the aggravating of second hand restriction, microtransactions policy, windows 8 and permanent internet conection, then the things will be much worse.
