RIP Crysis 3
kingPoS  +   540d ago
When your used to having only 256mb of v-ram, Starting off with 1.5gb must seem like a huge upgrade. I wouldn't be surprised many PS4 devs start to develop self imposed limits over ram usage.
SpinalRemains138  +   540d ago
Playstation will finally get an Elder Scrolls game which runs properly!

That will be a welcome relief. Games are very fun, but they don't work properly on SONY PS3.
execution17  +   540d ago
Oblivion ran just fine on PS3, but probably because it wasn't developed by Bethesda
Dark_Overlord  +   540d ago
None of the Bethesdas games function properly on release, it took the PC community themselves to get the games working properly (Till Bethesda finally sorted things themselves), and the Xbox versions have also been plagued with problems, so it isn't just a PS3 thing. Bethesda need to learn to program better and get some in house QC.

Sounds like another Guerilla games lie for the start of a new console generation if you ask me...

But if it's true then I guess that's pretty cool.
Kennytaur  +   540d ago
I can't be bothered to dig out a link to where I read this, but it supposedly used 1.5 GB for textures, 1.5 GB for other assets and 0.5 GB for code or something. Adding up to 3.5 GB, which fits with the PS4 being supposed to have just 4GB of memory with the remainder for OS. That leaves GG with 4 GB to play with. Still a crazy lot though.
andron666  +   540d ago
If this is what the best release games look like we'll be in for a great ride. Just compare 360/PS3 games to what we have today and how far we have come...
Th3 Chr0nic  +   540d ago
lol so many ppl that have no idea how any of this works. they see numbers and just go crazy with broken logic and ideas
MontyQ  +   540d ago
ummm you people do know vram aint the same as ram so if your thinking the ps4 has 8GB vram then your dreaming lol even the highest $1000 PC GPUs dont have 8GB vram

vram and ram are two different things
GiantFriendlyCrab  +   540d ago
Gddr5 is the vram, we are not talking about drr3 ram on pc
Kennytaur  +   540d ago
The PS4 has shared memory, and those 8GB are all of the same type as the VRAM used in high-end GPUs.

See, we only call it VRAM if it's dedicated as Video memory, my laptop has 2GB of VRAM for it's GPU, and it's DDR3, just like my other 16GB of RAM. Main difference is the clockspeed.

Granted, You may like the art style and the overall tone of one game over another. But all things considered, when tacklig specifically the technical aspects I doubt this game overshadows Crysis 3. One is a console game that will run always on a specific resolution with a given amount of antialiasing and anisotropic filtering level. While the other is a game which will be moded, and capable of running at probably twice the resolution the PS4 will probably offer, with much more antialiasing options and filtering options. There´s a reason why a high end video card alone is worth what a console is, and that is performance.

That said. KZ4 looks sick! :D
Father__Merrin  +   540d ago
PC gaming is rubbish imo, yes for the price of a ps4 and 720 for the same price you could be purchasing a graphics card which current consoles cant compete, but whats the point in that?

imo all the games of any note come out on consoles, tbh any gaming site i try to just ignore the PC pages as theres nothing ever in there apart from PC guys moaning im sick of it
LAWSON72  +   540d ago
They only moan because of how stupid console fanboys are by comparing versions of a game by watching youtube videos.
mrbojingles  +   540d ago
Why would a first party studio not know of these rumored RAM changes in advance? Even if this change happened in January as rumored, Guerilla Games would have known months before guys. Do you really think Sony is that incompetent to not tell their first party studios these things and to not get them newer devkits first?

Also, the devkits are probably already using 8GB RAM anyway, so even if they were aiming for 4GB in game, they're kits already allowed them access to that extra 4GB of RAM even if the decision was sudden in January
PLASTICA-MAN  +   540d ago
Even Sucker Punch devs and NAUGHTY DOG DEVS TOO did know about it only on THAT day:

https://twitter.com/mrengst...

It was clearly a last minute change. Expect more alike changes to happen until release.

An unfinished gimped PS4 dev kit is running an alpha code Killzone Shadow Fall and it ALMOST looks as good as Crysis 3 at 1080p on Ultra Settings. Keyword, ALMOST. So probably at E3 or a litte bit after.. when all the hardware is finalized along with the updated 8GB GDDR5 RAM and put the finishing touches on KSF... Im sure this game will be on par if not better than Crysis 3... Im trusting GG to make it better. Really interested on the multiplayer though... hope its 64 players.
Holeran  +   540d ago
64 player multiplayer Killzone would be fantastic, I too hope we see that.
DigitalSmoke  +   540d ago
64players makes no sense
Shacojin  +   540d ago
Care to explain?
zAlchemist  +   540d ago
PS4 is going to be killer :D
dirthurts  +   540d ago
How much vram does the PS4 even have?
It's probably 1.5 or 2.
Don't get processing power and random access memory confused.
They aren't the same thing.
Shacojin  +   540d ago
I believe they are using a unified 8GB of GDDR5 memory instead of splitting it.
dirthurts  +   540d ago
I'm sure developers will be limiting that at around 1.5 or 2 if they have the option.
You don't get a performance difference past that unless you're pushing a resolution higher than 1080p with a lot of AA applied, which the PS4 won't be doing.
Daves  +   540d ago
All 8 GB is fast GDDR. This IS the VRAM.

However it's also used OS, and for games code, graphics and sound.

Everything gets to use the fast memory.

Its up to the devs how they will allocate what is left after OS.

edit: typo

The graphics are great looking but the thing that struck me instantly was the depth of the draw distance, it is far and away better than we have seen currently on most any other game.
cheameup  +   540d ago
Hhhmmm. Has everyone forgotten killzone 3 sucked ?
Drainage  +   540d ago
the gg team know this and will step up
josephayal  +   540d ago
best looking game 1.5gb vram eva
iLemon  +   540d ago
Of course it's only using 1.5gig of VRAM. It's only running on one screen at 1080p.

This game reminds me alot of Dragon's Lair.
jollygoodchap8  +   540d ago
The ignorance in this thread gave me cancer.

I Can't wait for Killzone PS4
Loved the last Killzone for PS3 was a great experience. It was fun, loud and the graphic fidelity was eye candy. I can't really wrap my mind around what the finished version will look like. Day one urchased for me.

coz what stupid would think that is possible to allocate 8 gb in realtime with that gpu/cpu? ....all games will be 2-3 gb max

u know that they need to read from the BD right? or u wanna install 50 gb for each game?...and u know that the gpu work frame by frame right?....anyway....i dont wanna go too techy

Maybe im confused but i'm pretty positive that the PS4's RAM(8GB) is not connected with its VRAM which is for the graphics card only. Or are the combining the consoles VRAM and RAM pools to make just one large pool? Does anyone have a link or info on this?
Holeran  +   540d ago
It is unified memory.
CatXFlash  +   540d ago
@_@ someone pinch me!
weap0nx  +   540d ago
Glad to hear it just to me it looked like a PS3 game.
forum67  +   540d ago
lol guys. Its unified memory.

* More RAM does not equal better graphics.
* ATI 7770 2GB wont be faster and better than ATI 7950 1GB.
* There are multiple components involved and interconnected.
* Its all about architecture.
* Even a 50$ el-cheapo ATI 6450 is called 'NEXT GENERATION AMD GRAPHIC ENGINE' . No details are provided , my guess is it will be a 6850 highly modified GPU.

Rohitechnique  +   540d ago
Ps4 is good but RAM isnt everything. The GPU and CPU is crucial IMO. But still ps4 should be more than capable to push some terrific looking games for the next gen. But also PC gaming will always look good for those die hard PC gamers who will keep up with the latest GPUS and CPUS.
