the wii u isnt doing well at all. the older ps3 sold more than twice the amount of the wii u. i wonder how much the sales will drop this month, next month and the subsequent months till proper games are out
Godchild1020  +   683d ago
The Vita isn't doing so well either. Its selling less than the PSP, but not as badly as the Wii U is compared to last gen consoles. But the Vita is selling really bad compared to the cheaper 3DS.

I ask myself this question all the time, would the 3DS really have this great lead if Nintendo didn't drop the price of the system or if Sony dropped the price of the Vita to match the 3DS?

The Vita and Wii U sales are just forecasting the future gaming. Sales for both the PS4 and 720 will disappoint aswell once released. Gaming is dying.

Even if the 3DS was the same price as the Vita or if the Vita had a price cut, i still think cause of the juggernaut that are Nintendo 1st party games the 3DS would still be a better seller.

However the Vita would not be in the situation it is at now barely keeping up with its younger brother the PSP. The difference in sales between the Vita & 3DS would be a lot closer than it is now though.

For me i love the Vita & i use it all the time. For all the naysayers out there, the Vita has yet received its price cut so i am gonna hold out about its future until that happens.

What does the Vita have to do with her comment. Stop comparing the vita to the WiiU. One is a handheld and the other is a console.

Now to answer your question. Of course, they got the lead because of the price. Nobody would be buying it at $250. If sony does drop the price of the vita at $180 and advertise it well. Then they should be able to find the same success as the psp.

Its time for you to find a new hobby then?? seems that you take the wiiu poor sales to heart.

If gaming is dying why on earth its on almost every single electronic device these days?

The only thing I dont see gaming on is a calculator or camera. Smart watch might have some silly games soon and smart tv will stream games from onlive or gaikai.

Wiiu is only hurting because the core is interested in third party and first party games that the wiiu dont have right now and wiiu don't have the casual crowd because they are buying xbox.
Godchild1020  +   683d ago
The Vita has some relationship to her comment, because its another console that a lot of people thought would have sold better at this point. Also I didn't compare the Wii U to the Vita in the way you are thinking. I said the Wii U is selling badly compared to last gen consoles, not the Vita. Also if the comparison that can be made ia the ratio of what the Vita sold compared to last gen and the ratio the Wii U sold compared to last gen.

Anyway, Thanks for your input to my question.

If gaming is dying why are the ps3 and 360 still selling reasonably well for old consoles? And why is pc gaming growing?

Gaming isn't dying. The wii u is just tanking.
user3915800  +   683d ago
wii-u its practically dead, we are waiting on ps4 and 720 to finally placed the wiiu in RIP momentum. Unpleasant as it looks, I hope big N does a rear check and stop production of wii-u and go all out with new platform bc with wii and wiiu, but the chances of that happening are about the same with hiring harashima.
RIP wIIU, at least I was able to play zombie on it. Ugh let me run before someone curse me out.

@ black911.No it's not.Where did you get that from? People are waiting to see what the PS4 and next Xbox offer before they invest in anything. If the Wii U can't deliver the PS4 and Next Xbox will pick up the slack. That is just how competition works.
WeAreLegion  +   683d ago
Agreed. If anything, the PS4 and 720 will reinvigorate the industry! It didn't help that 2012's lineup wasn't as large as 2011's. :/ This year is going to be BIG though. The Last of Us, Gears of War: Judgement, Beyond: Two Souls, God of War: Ascension, Pokemon X and Y, and possibly the release of the PS4 and 720?!? Count me in!

Sales data pretty much renders his comment null anyway. The video game business did very well even though the slow economy. Also, there are video game machines still breaking sales records, etc. etc. Actually it is such a lucrative industry that it has attracted myriad jackass "businessmen" that don't care about innovation for quality and churn out rehashes as often as possible. I would like to see a day when gamers run the industry.

Why does everyone think a price cut will help the vita. To be honest it's all about the beautiful graphics and all this and that. It's def not the price. If so why would we buy big arse tv's and fancy cars. It's about the games the 3ds is just a system that's a lot funner. The vita is a pretty girl that's stuck on herself and she is a party pooper. The 3ds is the girl next door but she ca drink with the fellas and loves sports.
classic200  +   683d ago
Price cut is the main thing, there is no going around that with your funner illusion.

Also 3ds being a drinker is crazy, the console got kiddie written all over it lol. VITA is a grown up machine.
smashcrashbash  +   683d ago
What the heck are you talking about? People still love pretty girls even when they are stuck on themselves and guys hate girls who are tom boys who think they can hang with the fellas. What dimension do you live in? And funner is not a word. It's more fun. BTW a price cut will help. Normal people who don't know any better buy the 3DS because it is cheaper. They don't really care as much as us what games are for it.They only see price. If the VITA was cheaper then the 3DS more people would buy it. It's just like the 360 and the PS3. The PS3 offered more but people ran to the 360 and because it was cheaper and they could hack it for cheap games.

I think it has more to do with marketing. The masses will buy pretty much anything, if there is a proper buzz created for it, and the Vita is(believe it or not) highly marketable. Although I definitely welcome more Vita games :]

Hmmm, let's see how about the games:
Vita: 14 games with score above 80%
3DS: 14 games with score above 80%

Vita more or lass hes the same number of quality games.

Vita needs more titles, across the world. It needs sequels of titles the PSP had (or even improved remakes), and new ones too.

Bundles and a price drop, might help. But I think it boils down to the support behind it. Once Sony improve that, sales will pick up.
Bathyj  +   683d ago
Black Ops sold more on PS3 than XB this year?
It has to be because of Halo.
adorie  +   683d ago
Sign of the times perhaps? Who knows?
Skips  +   683d ago
Probably because everybody who wants it on the 360 already has it?
Zechs34  +   683d ago
The real shocker here is how much most of these ridiculously old consoles are still selling. I mean The 3DS is in its own league, but its also Nintendo's newest portable. The WiiU is off to a modest start and i believe itll pick up once the games come.

Wow though. Look at the 360 and PS3. Ridiclous that even at these high prices (prices for the last gen wouldve been closer to the $99-$129 proces after 7 years.) This also further solidifies the fact that Sony has been steadily gaining ground on Microsoft. Still, these consoles are only going to more and more once the prices hit the magical $99. If Sony has proven anything to their competitors (something they should imitate) is that you dont have to kill off a console just because a new one is out. Thats how the PS2 got its sales to reach so high! After 10 years on the market, the thing would outsell several consoles in several regions. Incredible.

Looking forward to Feb 20 to see what Sony has in store next, and more than likely looking forward to Mircrosoft revealing the 360 well before E3 to not let Sony have all the momentum for the next couple months!

Oh BTW, Cmon people! Buy the Vita! I understand some people just cant drop $250 on a handheld but we also dont want our beloved handhelds to cease existing!

first1NFANTRY  +   683d ago
I can't help but feel the reason why the Wii U isn't selling like hot cakes is because the market is over saturated. Also the lack of games is hurting it's sales. Maybe the average consumer thinks the Wii U is just an expansion for the Wii they already own.
Bathyj  +   683d ago
I dont know that the market can be oversaturated with WiiU's. They're arent that many of them.

But I think the name is a mistake. To a casual (the people Wii most appeals to) the WiiU could just be mistaken as a tablet controller for a Wii. And just glancing at the software they might not see the difference either.

Had they called it Wii2 then there would be no confusion, everyone would know it was a sequel to the Wii.

Personally, I think its mainly lack of games, and price hurting it.
GribbleGrunger  +   683d ago
No, I get his point. The problem is that the Wiiu isn't selling because of its unique controller like the Wii did. By 'over saturation' I take it that he means most people have already got a current gen console, and as much as I think it's overplayed by the media and posters in general, that's exactly the generation the Wiiu seems more comparable to.

It needs those exclusives before the 720 and the PS4 releases, otherwise it's going to be an uphill battle to achieve even half the userbase of the Wii. People are waiting for information on the two big hitters and if MS and Sony also drop the price of their current gen consoles, I can't see any possible solution for Nintendo.

I think part of the problem Nintendo face is the loyalty of their fanbase. A friend of mine recently bought a Wiiu for Nintendo games and is quite happy to wait a YEAR for the games he wants. That's great for Nintendo but once again it's alienating 3rd party developers. If the Wiiu doesn't start selling 3rd party games in decent numbers then all of those devs are going to push all their resources into the PS4 and the 720 and there will be no way back for Nintendo.

That's not to say that the Wiiu can't be a success though. Even if it does only sell 40 million in its lifecycle, there will be plenty of great Nintendo games to play. It's exactly the same for the Vita (which will NEVER catch the 3DS. Sorry Playstation fans, I'm one too, but it's not going to happen)

MikeMyers  +   683d ago
The same thing can be said about the loyalty of Sony fans. Many bought the PS3 and waited years, not just a year, for games like Gran Turismo, Killzone and Final Fantasy. Sony showed many games at the E3 conference before the PS3 shipped and many of those games didn't come out until much later. Not only that but some games ended up not being exclusive like Final Fantasy. PS3 fans had to wait for games like Bioshock and Oblivion as well.

It's the same thing with any loyal fanbase, they will be far more lenient than regular consumers.

I think the Vita will get a price drop later this month at the PlayStation meeting or Destination PlayStation along with more exclusive game reveals. And hopefully Sony's new advertising agency will do a much better job at marketing the Vita than the last one. It's about time sales start to pick up for the Vita.

Dropping the price on a piece of kit as good as the Vita would make it more popular... and cost Sony tens or hundreds of millions in losses.

Since they do it for the money, I think a price drop is not impending until the chips can be shrunk (by TSMC) to 20nm -- that'll be in late 2014, by TSMC's current timeline. Don't get your hopes up for a price drop -- Sony would kill the Vita sooner than lose 15 billion yen on it.

The Wii-U and the Wii are taking a big tumble the only difference is that the Wii did its job, on the Vita, if Sony can secure Yakuza for it, it will really pick up in sales, in Japan at least, in the West I reckon KZ will be a real system seller, that game looks insane.
