Uh what? GTA IV sold very well on PC, despite being horribly optimized for the first two months of release. Not as well as on PS3 and 360. I'd be amazed if the PC version hasn't hit 2 million sales.
Man pc gamers are hurting for this. Hope it comes to pc.. But as we have seen Rockstar is a success without pc i.e Red Dead. They sold over 5 million on each platform. I think pc will have a port just a late one.
And I'm guessing you're basing that off of the notoriously inaccurate VGChartz? Those are just retail sales. I'm sure it's sold like 2-3 times that number on Steam.
For every one person that bought it, 5 ripped it off... R* would rather let the console versions sell through their peak first, then they may consider putting it out on PC.
At least PC folk have a Spine. Console folk just keep taking it up the hind. Infact when MS and Sony do something to screw themover most of the fanboys actually cheer over it rofl.
This has been happening since GTA III when PC gamers were shocked that they weren't getting GTA but consoles were. Six months later, it was released for PC. Same thing pretty much for every GTA release since.
On a side note, when GTA III released on Windows, it was also released for Xbox which at the time would've been a next-gen console. Won't be surprised if the same were to happen if next-gen consoles are released this year.
i don't know why developers HATE PC platform so much, almost everytime it gets a treatment like this... Ubisoft, Rockstar and others (except Crytek) just cn't find out mentality of these developers...
Ubisoft are the worst, some the best ive seen last year has come from IO Interactive. That said ubisoft montreal did great job on far cry 3 pc but rest been quick shoddy ports no deadication.
@Hellsvacancy PC crybabies and there petitions.
Crybabies how old are you ? We not children we show our thoughts strong feelings sometimes threw petitions and fourums PC Gamers are renound at doing this getting message across how we get things done.
You honestly don't know why? Maybe just maybe it isn't worth it to them. Look at dark souls, pc heads begged for the game and when they finally got it they completely blasted them for it" being horribly optimized for pc" as pc heads like to say.
Never mind they had little interest in the pc market and little to no experience with working on them. GTA4 got blasted as well I believe, why even bother when you know the whines are going to come.
and for the record I truly hope they do bring it to PC as the mods will give this game infinite replay I'm sure.
He meant the devs use PCs to create the game not that the PC is the lead platform.
Most devs don't have a clue about developing specifically for PC nowadays. This is why we get shoddy ports and also to save money when the publisher spends £50mil on marketing their console games.
@BitbyDeath You can't be more wrong, have you looked at dev blogs? They make games on a PC, consoles are too shitty to run modelling and visual programs.
GTA IV was too dark and gritty as well as boring, just as GTA 3 was. But VC and SA = tons of fun.
So i have high hopes for this one, hopefully R* can do as well as the mod teams or better and let us have modifiable game modes, and 50+ players online in each server. if it can only be as great as SAMP it will be totally awesome.. just hope it doesn't end up as bad as IV's multiplayer.
GTA4 for consoles sold well over 20 million I think, and for PC it was something like 1 or 2 million. GTA4 for consoles had about 20 million players, PC players well exceeded that number...
That was at the beginning of this gen. In september there will be more than 150 million PS3's and 360's, far more than in 2008 which will guarantee a major rise in sales on consoles. For PC, R* doesn't have any indication that part 5 will do better than the terrible sales of the previous game. Consoles will provide the profit, why release it on PC when you know the profit will be minimum and at the same time millions will steal your masterpiece?
Sure, GTA5 optimised for PC would probably be far better looking than on consoles, it's just that besides the better specs those PC's also always have a harddrive, an internetconnection and a torrent client...150.000 people signed, 15 million will steal. Some of them both. If I was a gamedeveloper I would say to hell with them.
That's your reply? Because I can't provide the exact numbers, only estimates, I can't say that the massive piracy of GTA4 on PC might have an effect on the release of GTA5 on PC?
I may have numbers up my ass, but not my head. GTA4 was copied, stolen and ripped on a massive scale, more people stole it than there was people buying it. Far more.
More people pirated than bought? You can't be serious. Especially with how many steam sales included GTA over the years, every single steam friend of mine has purchased GTA IV complete
'That's your reply? Because I can't provide the exact numbers, only estimates, I can't say that the massive piracy of GTA4 on PC might have an effect on the release of GTA5 on PC? '
The numbers you provided - 'and for PC it was something like 1 or 2 million. ' - must be false because you don't actually have a clue what it sold on pc. So you are talking crap.
Second, you don't have the numbers on how many copies were pirated, so you are talking crap there.
'150.000 people signed, 15 million will steal.'
Yet again you are pulling numbers out of thin air.
I know there is a problem with piracy, but my point is that you are just talking nonsense, coming out with figures as if they were fact, which they clearly aren't.
If you are going to make statements as if they were facts, you need to back them up. Otherwise your statements are worthless.
And besides, GTA 5 is very much likely to come to pc, it will just be delayed. Like every other GTA since GTA 3.
Same result, minimum sales and a multitude of that in illegal downloads. The quality of the port has little to no influence on the sales/theft ratio, San Andreas was good on PC and still more people stole it than bought it. It's a common but silly excuse. Same as downloading as it was a demo, saying you don't like the porting but keep playing it for months...if you play something for months you like it and you should have bought it.
And a superb GTA5 port for PC will only increase the amount of illegal downloads. To say those thieves will stop stealing if the product is really good is just plain stupid. Is it that hard to understand GTA games are not optimised anymore for PC, perhaps not even released? It's simply not worth it.
A shame really. GTA games are always fun and well worth the money.
And I wonder how many pirated it on consoles as well? Piracy isn't just a PC specific thing it happens alot of consoles too but I guess you forgot that part.
I never pirated it I have it on steam from a sale maybe 6 months later when it was cheaper as rockstar didn't deserve full price for a shoddy port.
PC gamers vote with our wallets. We also support developers who treat us with respect like CD Project RED and the many PC exclusive indie devs.
I support alot more indie devs now rather than these so called AAA devs and publishers. I'd rather see kickstarter and indie devs succeed than the mindless, money milking publishers we have now.
I was sorry to see THQ fold as they actually cared about the PC platform unlike Rockstar, MS and Epic to name a few.
No I didn't forget that, it's simply not worth mentioning, piracy on PC and piracy on consoles are not in the same ballpark. On console the vast majority bought the game and a small minority pirated it, on PC it was the other way around.
Some PC gamers like you may vote with their wallets, yet most GTA players on PC didn't use their wallets at all. Same as with all previous GTA games on PC, hence the minimum effort of R* on the last GTA PC port. Not worth the effort. What do you think that means for a PC port of GTA5 should it ever be released?
Thieves do not stop stealing when products get better. They will keep on stealing, probably even more. Untill it's not available anymore.
For you as a non-stealing PC gamer I hope there eventually will be a PC version of GTA5, but if so I'm afraid you will have to vote with your wallet again and electiontime is still far away.
Cant really agree with all your points, if PIRACY was the only reason behind this then it shouldve released only exclusively on PS3 at that time! 360 piracy is also off the charts nowadays with games being leaked 2,3 weeks before official release!
If it's not worth the effort then why bring out a port at all?
There's plenty more games out there. Some much better than GTA series. I actually preferred and enjoyed Sleeping Dogs much more than GTA4 and it was a really good PC port.
If Rockstar can't get their head out of their arse and wake up to see the PC platform is a lucrative investment then it's their loss. I'll just move on and play something else.
If they decide to release it on PC 2 years after consoles and complain about sales that's their own fault.
PC gamers vote with our wallets. We also support developers who treat us with respect like CD Project RED and the many PC exclusive indie devs.

I was sorry to see THQ fold as they actually cared about the PC platform unlike Rockstar, MS and Epic to name a few.
----------------------------- -----
So you support them? So why did THQ fold if PC gamers support those who care for them?
THQ didn't just publish games for pc, what's your point?
As for your question to me above - I wasn't the one pulling numbers out of thin air, which was the point I was making. How and why would I need to give you sale numbers when I wasn't making the statement?
He came out with some random numbers with nothing to back them up. He was just making them up, which makes for a poor argument.
Well unless you know for a fact those are not the numbers how do you know he isn’t right, or at least even not far off?
My point being (since you need it to be explained so you must be a simpleton) He paints PC gamers as the 'good guys' of gaming. By claiming they support those who treat them with respect.
But then mentions a publisher/developer who recently folded, despite 'caring for PC gamers'.
Contradiction no?
---------------
THQ failed because of a bad business decision with UDraw device on consoles not because of low PC sales.
Anything else you want to use to discredit PC gamers with?
-----------------
Edit:
Maybe they should of released it on PC you could of saved them then
Ha-ha and there we have it folks, the oh so modest PC gamer, predictable to the last ;)
I best be on my leave since I am an evil console gamer I need to carry out my evil plans of evil doing *booo hisss*
I really hope Microsoft and Sony introduce the always online procedures that PC gamers have to put up with now.
Hopefully then they'll be another video games crash when most of the companies go bust due to their own greed of stopping second hand sales.
And I never mentioned anything about evil console gamers but every console gamer seems to think PC gamers pirate all their games.
If we did pirate everything PC games revenue wouldn't have been $18bil in 2011 and rising.
And why would I want a drawing pad when I have a PC?
Actually console gamers are very predictable as they think PCs costs thousands of £/$ and we all pirate our games. Always the same argument but never any evidence to back it up.
Make the pc chumps kickstart that sh*** always begging for console games because pc 1st devs suck at making games lol. and im not talking about kickstart for just 50 dollars at the game price but set that limit/asking price of 10 million dollars for rockstar to bring it over to the pc and a minimum of 100 dollars per pledge to get the game.
pc master race my tail. lol binding of isaac those horrible flash games. on consoles we have games like zelda and mario much more quality bro.
Well, maybe if PC gamers actually...you know...BOUGHT the game instead of pirating it, maybe then Rockstar wouldn't have a valid reason to treat them like an afterthought. In my opinion, PC gamers deserve this treatment and should stop crying about it through silly and useless petitions.
and u made that statics from you mom basement.
At least PC folk have a Spine. Console folk just keep taking it up the hind. Infact when MS and Sony do something to screw themover most of the fanboys actually cheer over it rofl.
without mining activity there would be no electricity..
without underground processes which convert old plant materials into non-renewable energy sources, there would be nothing to mine..
and so on and so on.
that's not a valid argument
@torchic
lol.
As for games like RDR I have no doubt that that will get a PC release just before we see the sequel.
On a side note, when GTA III released on Windows, it was also released for Xbox which at the time would've been a next-gen console. Won't be surprised if the same were to happen if next-gen consoles are released this year.

I gave a link so you can read up on what a devkit is, you should read it. You might get a better understanding then.
Speaking of it, how nice does your PC run Red Dead Redemption?
^^
