ugh haven't heard that before Capcom. Both these companies are right there when it comes to listening fans and giving them the opposite of what they "listened" to, or at least what we thought what they meant.
I highly doubt their listening to the fans. It just seems like they are, we have seen time and time again that these companies barley listen to the fanbase.
Only reason it seems like they are, was due to all the backlash and low sales from RE6. Thats capitalism I suppose.
Capcom isn't smart enough to return to its roots, they have no clue why they were successful or what it is about their winning formula that they've abandoned. If they knew what made past RE games big sellers they would be applying those aspects to current RE games, yet still, RE 2 and 1 are still the top 2 best selling RE games for a single console. RE 5 was at least a competent game when it came to shooting, and had amazing graphics, which is why if you combine the PS3 and 360 sales they actually make RE5 the best selling RE ever at over 8 million copies at just retail.
Capcom just needs to make the game competent again. No more stupid quicktime events, and bad game design decisions like bosses that take no damage until an invisible line has been crossed, or until a random point in time. RE6 had strong initial sales due to fan excitement and hype, and the loyal fanbase, but it still hasn't hit a total 4 million units across all consoles. When your sales are cut in half you need to reflect and realize your game design was crap, and actually listen to the negative reviews, as hard as that is for most people.
I'm still boggled that the movies have basically turned Wesker into a good guy. Who the hell thought that having Alice, Leon and Wesker team up would be a good idea?
We don't need a reboot. Revelations was great, 4 and 5 were great, 6 was great but far too bloated and unfocused. Make a smaller, tighter, game like revelations and remake 2. Less action and more tense build up.
RE 4 was the last great game. Although 4 itself strayed far away from the typical formula of Resident Evil. I don't think it would need a reboot really if they took Resident Evil 7 back to its roots.
CRAPCOM needs to start with an HD remake of resident evil 2 with re4 aiming mechanics. I want ZOMBIES not wannabe zombies shooting machine guns at you... Wtf is that?!
Yes, but fans won't be happy when they find out there is disk locked content. I'm all for it, but fans won't be so forgiving if you don't abolish your dirty business tactics/scams.
Resident Evil is in desperate need of a reboot. A good one. It shouldn't go off in many directions either. I mean in this current franchise, the amount of times the games have ran off in too many directions with different characters. It's too complex and confusing.
I wouldn't mind seeing a reboot for the franchise But Capcom is trying to compete with Shinji Mikami project The Survival horror Open world game ( Project Zwei ) , Capcom believes that if they changed the course of the story completely and radically changed the entire game even with places they believe they would like to get rid of the dominance of the name of Shinji Mikami on their old Projects just by "Rebooting" it in Capcom's way .
Capcom .. If you truly listen to your True fans make something that DOES NOT appeal the Call of duty Public or Gears of War public .. or Whatever , At least let me have some faith for your franchise ,Why Can't you trust yourself for a moment and think about your policies without looking to other companies profits .
In music, whenever an artist say they want to go back to their roots, it usually ends up becoming superfcial and in gaming, i have seen a similar pattern.
Nintendo made Twilight Princess to be the spiritual sequel to OoT, in an attempt to go back to the roots, and with Mass Effect 3, Bioware promised the RPG elements to be more like ME1.
In both cases it didn't live up to expectations. Overall Twilight Princess wasn't as good as a whole, and ME3 felt so different from ME1.
I'm happy to hear this news, but i don't expect much.
RE has changed so much over the series' lifetime that I'm not confident Capcom even knows what the essence of a RE game is. I'll believe it when I see it.
Seeing this rival Project Zwei will be interesting. Bring in a fresh new cast please so the director wont have to worry on riding Shinji's coat tails and feel limited in his approach.
I wonder what the people saying that Resident Evil VI was "a proper evolution for the series" saying now.

You dont like RE6, fine. You apparently "dont know your stuff." RE6 has sold 4.5mil, not shipped.

If they reboot the game Chris, Leon, Jill, Barry etc will be gone and never seen again :(
I watched RE5(movie) just to see Barry. He was awesome :D
Movie sucked though... badly. Barry shows up while Chris is off in some test tube somewhere. *facepalm*
....oh, that's right. Paul W.S. Anderson. D:
