Sorry snator, no mute option on this subject. You mess with ours games, we mess with your ballot box. This is why you all need to vote.

This is like telling women to stay out of the abortion debate because they're too close to the situation to be objective.

AS much as I love objectivity, I completely agree that sometimes, a subjective opinion is what is needed.

Maybe this State Senator should worry about the fiscal problems in California and not try to go after the low hanging fruit. His state has real problems and he is worrying about videogames.
kenshiro100  +   1032d ago
They might as well ban movies too.
Yodagamer  +   1032d ago
Of course they do, the gov't just wants control and just like everything else they want the people to be quiet and go along with the bs. He acts like gaming is the only million dollar industry and is all about violence, what about movies and tv. Heck they are often more violent.

So, sit back and take your lumps like a good gamer while the lawmakers decide what’s best for you.

Isnt that really what any politian really wants? That's really the problem IMO today in most of today's politics is that there really is no where to go and voice your opinion and not look like you just being some whiny ass unless you get a giant group to sit and protest somewhere with you. There should be goverment made public opinion websites where you sign in and vote on currrent issues. Possibly even have debates online for pros and cons and let the people make up their own minds. Why do men like this get to vote on subjects that apply to lots of people other than themselves and not the people it applies to? I disagree with many things in politics that supposed people I vote for make decisions for me that never asked me what i thought. Its rediculous in this age of information that we let a$$holes like this talk for us, but who can take the time away from thier real life long enough to go protest?

and besides if video games really made you a killer, well we would have like 500,000,000 raving psychopaths on a quest for bloodlust roaming the streets already with current hardware sales for this gen and last. I dont see that happening any times soon.

And now I remember why I moved out of California. Surely this guy must have more important things to do with his time. California slowly falls deeper and deeper into debt while politicians like Senator Leland Yee waste tax payer dollars to push for useless laws. Couldn't that tax payer money be better spent educating kids about respect for human life?

Even if video games were totally banned, it would not stop nutcases from buying guns and going on shooting sprees. And I hate the fact that I am supposed to feel ashamed that I am a gamer, because the media and lazy politicians have latched onto gaming as the reason that people go ape shit, when any person with half a brain knows that video games don't breed mass murderers.

“Gamers have got to just quiet down[...] Gamers have no credibility in this argument. This is all about their lust for violence and the industry’s lust for money. This is a billion-dollar industry. This is about their self-interest.”

We have no credibility in the argument? We are at the center of it. For insulting us further by saying such a thing only makes Lee's case appear weak by telling an opposing party to silence their opinions. I'm thinking he just doesn't want the very vocal among us to actually present a good, defensive case.

And I'm sorry, but saying that we gamers have a "lust for violence" is ridiculous. If you look back before video games came about, anyone could easily say the same thing about other forms of entertainment or violence itself. And the industry has a "lust for money"? Well, to get paid for their work, but I doubt it's to always get rich. After all, quite a few studios have had to shut down from the past decade.

Lee does get something right, though. It is about self-interest, but self-interest to preserve and defend what we have a passion for. It's a self-interest to gamers and game developers to protect the industry from blind, stuck-up fools like Lee.

In the end, it's ultimately Lee who has a self-interest to make sure he stays in power for as long as can so he make money on a yearly basis by doing the most minimal things while sitting in his cozy office and meandering to the disillusioned parents and NRA. Think about how many politicians sit around in their offices hardly doing a thing in our own cities. We raise concerns about gangs, jobs, construction, but all they do is talk about doing something. Politicians who are against video games, I believe, are intimidated by the video game industry. And because of that influence, it's easier to make the industry a target. Lee can do us all a favor and resign while he can before he embarrasses himself again.

Personally attacking this guy isn't going to make things better. It just makes us look bad. It's no wonder he thinks we have no credibility in the argument when we can't even have an intelligent discussion about it.
Kenshin_BATT0USAI  +   1032d ago
I sent him a well-written and mature email. I'm sure I'll be ignored though. haha
Yodagamer  +   1032d ago
Saying we are only basing our decisions on our lust of violence isn't exactly intelligent on his part. Then he acts like it's the only billions dollar industry who promotes violence.

He has a job to represent US! He has no right to say that at all. Hopefully one day people wake up and get these stupid businessmen out of office!

We want term limits, direct representation, and younger people in there. Not people that go to college to learn how to run a business.
Kenshin_BATT0USAI  +   1032d ago
This guy sounds heavily totalitarian side. Surprised he's even involved in politics. Sentiments like this usually results in resignations.

All I see is an ignorant old politician insulting a very large demographic of society in a vane attempt to garner votes in his next re election.
