While I do think Xbox doesn't have as many characters, you have to admit Master Chief is bigger than ANY Sony character because of Halo. He's not as big as Mario, but Sony doesn't have a character as big as him let alone Mario. The good part though, is that Sony has Kratos, Drake, Sackboy, Ratchet, etc that really make up a well rounded roster.
Hey wait!!!!!! You forgot one guy..... The king from burger king!!!!! He should be in there throwing hamburgers and fries as his attacks. If you don't think he should be in there you are wrong. Just search mugen Ronald McDonald.
@blitz0623 That's subjective. Bigger or popular does little per individual and not always means a better character. For example, like other people, I couldn't care any less about Master Chief. There are Sony and Nintendo characters that are way beyond Master Chief, personally.
Microsoft owns rare.. That puts Banjo-Kazooie, and Joanna Dark on the list. Probably a trials HD character, Crackdown guy, and the cute Tiger from Kinectimals. Done!
Halo may sell the most out of all of these franchises, but Kratos is slightly more popular now. It's interesting how unpopular Marcus and Drake are comparatively since those characters are meant to be from big series (although a lot of Uncharted's sales are due to monumental bundling so that isn't truly a big series which might be why Drake isn't popular). Sackboy isn't very popular either but surprisingly more so than Marcus and Drake.
One thing's for sure, both Kratos and Master Chief are bloody popular, more so than any Nintendo character not called Mario or Pikachu and a lot more than any other Playstation or Xbox exclusive characters.
Fable and Alan Wake are obvious too. I think MS could dish up enough characters to do it too. PSASBR has some multi-platform characters like Big Daddy and Dante. MS could have some multi-platform characters to round out the roster. Plus they own Rare, so they could add some Killer Instinct characters and Banjo Kazooie. They have a lot of downloadable characters they could use, like Minecraft and Jason Fleming from Shadow Complex. It doesn't seem like MS has a lot of characters, but they haven't spent the time promoting their characters (outside of the obvious like Master Chief) the way Nintendo and Sony have. I love SSB and PSASBR, so I have no problem with MS making a brawler too.
I was just about to put the same thing. MS do have a lot of name to but I think this was done to start a argument between the fans of each console.
I don't think this type of game will sell well on the xbox look at the sales of it on the PS3/PSV. There is really only Nintendo who can pull a game like this off because of the history of the charters and also because most people know who they are. PSASBR has a lot of characters on there people will not know and it would be the same for a Xbox version.
That said im still loving my PSASBR and I hope we get to see another one next gen.
Rare characters are more relatable with Nintendo. Especially because some of these haven't even appeared on an Xbox platform and only on Nintendo, like Killer Instinct. Nuts and Bolts was just... no, not the same and not as good.
You can't rely on third party characters. Minecraft? Third party. PSASBR only had 1 downloadable character and 3 third party. One of which is highly relatable with PlayStation (Heihachi).
i just don't understand why MS think that 1st party exclusives are not important, people keep saying its gonna catch up to them but they keep making the same 2-3 sequels and keep selling well
i like verity and for me personally sony has the most spread out type of games, what i mean is you can be a fan or horror, action adventure, rpg, fps, hack and slash along with many other type of games
i think soon these same franchises will get fatigued, look at COD for what it is for making billions it has slowed down big time compare to last one as much as 10%. you don't think 10% is big but take 10$ out of 2.5 billion and its quite big
sony still has some 2nd party studios that it can buy
insomniac, if their next game fails which isn't look so good and now its coming in between a lot of AAA game than i can see them crawling back to sony
read at dawn studios are working on next gen title rumored to be for ps4
QD after beyond 2 souls i could see sony buying them
and in the long run that's what's gonna matter, bottom line is most 3rd party games will be out on every console so you need to give people reason to buy your machine. and for a gaming console you need to provide games-more important exclusive games
really? this is retarded, there are many XBOX exclusive characters that could be included in a Smash Bros type game on 360. some of these are third party, but I'd pick Marcus Fenix, Master Chief, Baird, Blinx the Cat, Conker, Banjo, a Viva Pinata stage, Shu from Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey characters, Tales of Vesperia characters, Commander Shepherd, Garrus, Riddick, Sam Fisher, Sonic the Hedgehog, Stranger, Jade Empire characters, Naruto from Rise of Ninja, Ryu Hayabusa, DOA characters, Kameo, Crackdown police officer, and there are a few more from original XBOX, I'm sure. come on guys, there have been more much more than a few great exclusive releases on XBOX over the years. Go ahead and thumbs me down, Sony fanboys, because I know there are a crap ton of you on this site.
@jetlian , WiiUsauce Big Daddy is only 1 of 3 characters third party characters out of 22 on PS AllStars.
That list above sure has A LOT of third party characters. Vesperia also on PS3, same with Ryu Hayabusa and DOA. Commander Shepard on PC and PS3 as well, same with Garrus. Sam Fisher also on PC and PS3. Rare characters are highly more relatable with Nintendo. If they were to be included, man would that feel cheap and wrong. Sonic the Hedgehog and Naruto... are you kidding me?
your really reaching on that list, and I mean scraping an empty barrel reaching, more than half of those aren't exclusive, have never been exclusive and if they were, haven't been exclusive to xbox for like 5 years, that's more than half of your list, so that game may as well be multiplatform if it was ever released.
Microsoft could have lots of characters but most would have to be third party characters. I'm really surprised they got rid of so many developers over the last few years. You can't always count on third party support like they have now. You need lots of first party games too.
This article is dumb, is doesn't take into account that also has 3rd party characters. And to be fair they would be other characters such as Joanna Dark, Conker, 'Splosionman, Captain Smiley, Crackdown guy, Fable hero etc. Plus third party characters but oh wait! The article is biased. And why is this rising again? This was already discussed many months ago.
Not saying MS should ever make a game like this but for crying out loud, your fanboy is showing.
You do realise that crackdown guy has a name right? Why do they always refer to him as either the crack down guy or "that officer dude?"
I could imagine the game coming out and his character name is "that crackdown guy."
Besides that point being made 'Crosoft will have to do what Sony and 'Tendo did for those third party cameos. That involves a lot of paper work. Hopefully the rights to those characters, while they are being fumbled with new owners, won't be as misconstrued as spyro or crash is. Even that blue haired ninja from the n64 era. Plus didn't Xbox have that platformer from the makers of oddworld?
The question is...... How many different characters does the Xbox have? A.k.a. fighting styles? They would have to have an equivalent to Nathan Drake and his barrel roll attack.....
The sad part is that 'Crosoft would have to double up with each game to get a sizable roster... But there is only so many variants of play styles when it comes to shooters....
Then you have the problem where super smash has the objective of knocking your character off the screen as its main point of scoring. Psasbr has the point of the game to do finishing moves that borrow from mortal kombat. What would 'Crosoft come up with? Knock the player out of the screen with a finish move where you have to then play duck hunt with them?????
As far as third party characters go.... With so many already claimed from psasbr and smash.... Who is left? That leaves gex, sonic, Lara Croft, dragon ball z, one piece, blues clues, Dora the explorer..... You get the idea...... Lmao!
who the hell is even asking for this game?? im asking for good xbox first party exclusives not a stupid mascot fighting game. let sony waste their time trying to mimic nintendo's success with smash bros...
Who said it was a waste of time for Sony. If the fans wanted it and if fans enjoyed playing it, then Sony nor the developers wasted their time.
You may not want a mascot fighting game, but some Xbox owner or two would like to see one. Are you a multiconsole owner, because if you are one, you would be okay, but not angry with what Microsoft has done because you can play exclusives on other consoles?
It's okay to ask for them because as a owner you kinda deserve them, but your comment comes off as angry because you might have went with the Xbox 360 to be your only console.
Waist of time? It's my favorite game that came out last year! I still love playing the game.
If Microsoft makes a mascot fighter chances are they are going to mostly play as the most iconic character in the Xbox brand, I bet you know who he is...
I could see Alan Wake, the Crackdown dude, one of the leads from Fable and Ninety Nine Nights, and one or two L4D charachters (if they could convince Valve that is). Same with Artyom from the first Metro.
And why not??? I dont see anything wrong with playing a Zombie. Sony pretty much did the same thing by adding multiplatform game characters. The Big Daddy is a good example.
@WetN00dle69 You can't compare a Big Daddy to a zombie though lol A zombie with a splicer maybe. Oh and Sony added 4 multiplatform characters out of 20 (soon to be 22). PASBR is a game to represent all of Playstation. It's past (Parrapa, Sir Dan, Sweet Tooth, Ratchet and Clank etc.) It's present, (Cole, Nathan, Kratos, Sackboy etc.) and it's future (Raiden, emo Dante, Kat). Multiplats also make up a pretty big chunk of that past, present & future. In other words,,,,, no zombie.
This is why Microsoft should make a crossover 3rd Person shooter rather than a fighter/brawler. All of their well known characters come from shooters, so why not roll with it? I would buy it!
Master Chief Marcus Fenix Alan Wake Banjo & Kazooie Sam Fisher Frank West Conker Blinx Joanna Dark Kameo Kaim from Lost Odyssey Splosion Man Riptor from Killer Instinct Ghost from Modern Warfare Commander Shepard and Jack of Blades
Master Chief (Halo) Marcus Fenix or Cole Train (Gears of War) Fable character (Fable) The Agent (Crack Down) Alan Wake The Lead character from Shadow Complex Sam Fisher Ryu Hayanusa Conker Kaim Splosion Man Commander Shepard Big Boss or The Boss (MGS3 Snake Eater) Blinx the Cat VooDoo Vince Malice Stranger (Oddworld Strangers Wrath) lead character from Jet Set Radio Future Brotherhood character from Fallout 3
i know that flamebait brings flamewars but god, n4g is giving ps3 a bad name by being deliberately offensive with their comments. while xbox may not diligently support their exclusive ip's it doesn't mean that they aren't there.
Considering half the ones in Playstation All-Stars aren't owned by Sony or even Playstation exclusive, i would guess the X-Box one could have just as many characters if they pulled a Sony and borrowed them from other studios.
half? are you sure? Let's see...Big Daddy, Dante, Raiden, Heihachi...that was it. That's half? There are more than 8 characters in that whole game dude, so check your math again!
this is the list of Playstation All-Stars characters : **Big Daddy** (not exclusive) Cole MacGrath Evil Cole MacGrath Colonel Radec **Dante** (not exclusive) Fat Princess **Heihachi Mishima**(not exclusive) Jak and Daxter Kratos Nariko Nathan Drake PaRappa the Rapper **Raiden**(not exclusive) Ratchet and Clank Sackboy Sir Daniel Fortesque Sly Cooper Spike Sweet Tooth Toro Inoue Emmett Graves Kat
out of this long list i see 4 characters that are not sony exclusives so where is the ****half the ones in Playstation All-Stars aren't owned by Sony or even Playstation exclusive**** you are talking about ?!
They would have all the RARE properties such as Banjo Kazooie, Conker, Kameo, the Killer Instinct case, Battle Toads, Perfect Dark, Jet Force Gemini,etc..
Plus they own Twisted Pixel. That also ads Splosion Man, Comic Jumper, Gunstringer.
The game is great, tons of fun and that's all that matters for me as a gamer. Did Sony sell a lot or not that's the last thing i should worry about.
No matter how you dislike Nathan and Cole, at least those guys have different styles which means more variety in the character choice. But between Halo and Gears of War both throw grenades both have weapons what's the fun in that? Feels like the same guy with different skin to me.
Did you feel offended by what i said? Typical 14 year old fanboy reaction that's not worth replying to.. What? I already replied? Oh well...
@StreetsofRage: Parappa is my number one in this game. I smash you with him when you want to. "I gotta believe"
This again? Seriously All Stars has Pappa Rappa. If Sony could put a stupid character like that, than Microsoft could put a stupid character like Blinx the Cat.
Nobody wants a game like this for Microsoft, just like nobody wanted it for the ps3. The sales speak for themselves.
It's quite funny that this article is actually MAKING FUN OF SOMEONE WHO POSED THIS QUESTION -- then despairing over the prospect of a new Fanboy Generation.
Sony doesn't focus all their marketing on one character. lol
and true ...
..unless they can add 3rd part characters which is fair since PASBR did that too
That's subjective. Bigger or popular does little per individual and not always means a better character.
For example, like other people, I couldn't care any less about Master Chief. There are Sony and Nintendo characters that are way beyond Master Chief, personally.
NO parents know who Snake is or Nathan Drake. EVERYONE knows Halo and Master Chief. It's a household branding like Apple.
Kratos > Master Chief >>>>>>> Sackboy >> Nathan Drake > Marcus Fenix.

Weak list is weak.
PSA didnt sell well because most of its characters arent mainstream enough and MS would be even worse. Fact is Nintendo has more known characters.
Dante, raiden, big daddy, heihachi all 3rd party. Some like nariko arent even stars.
Not saying MS should ever make a game like this but for crying out loud, your fanboy is showing.

you are right

Those little guys off Happy Wars.

Jack of Blades (Fable)

Yeah, Xbox could pull this off if they wanted. But the whole mascot fighting thing would feel like a bit of a cash grab if you ask me.
Do not want.
@ Riderz1337.
Xbox avaters have been used in a lot of 360 games why not this?
I lol'd so hard when i read that >_<

Indiana/nathon Drake and Plain as fuck Cole MacGrath are so great.
It fell off the charts and never returned. We will never see a xbox version if they expect the terable sales Sony recived.
No matter how you dislike Nathan and Cole, at least those guys have different styles which means more variety in the character choice. But between Halo and Gears of War both throw grenades both have weapons what's the fun in that? Feels like the same guy with different skin to me.

Anyways, very small market for this type of game. Doesn't sell on the PS3, won't sell on the 360.
