Plus, all the rumours about the incoming Vita Monster Hunter made me replace my broken PSP so I could play Monster Hunter again. THAT is why it sold more :-)
But seriously, PSP's are cheap as s*** now. I got one for $60 brand new, and have seen them go for $50. When I first got one, they were $400 lol. PSP isn't really dated either as far as handhelds go. Should buy Monster Hunter for it, still kicks a$$!!
Nope it definitely won't. As soon as good hardware comes you will eat those words.
The wiiu is 1.5 Months old globaly. The ps3 is 7. So it's cheaper and got more games. But it's going to stop selling by the end of 2013. Stop selling as much anyway. By then the wiiu will be getting into its stride and increasing and increasing.
What ridiculous logic you adopt. The PS3 will only become a more viable platform choice for entry-level families looking for something cheap, with a library of content available for it at bargain prices.
The PS3 will only pickup steam when the new hardware generation hits. Not everyone can afford the latest & greatest, which is a bit of a disservice to the PS3 considering how many great titles are available exclusively on the platform.
WiiU is dead. It backfired for Nintendo. They wanted to be out first with a yet again low end machine. Feature wise it can match the PS360; and that's not enough with a $100 higher price point.
And comes fall it will be out matched by the new generation of PS and Xbox. If Sony wanted to play a price card; they can simply sell a low cost PS3 model (no HDD) by end of 2013 below $200 and done. This is what the WiiU will have to compete with.
They won't do it to not cannibalize PS4 sales. But the WiiU would need to be cheaper than that to make a dent.
This can't be correct. We know that there was a huge deal about the PS3 surpassing the Xbox in total sales. Regardless of their estimates this month, VG Chartz still shows the Xbox up by over 1.6 million on lifetime sales.
According to VG Chartz: PS3 - 72,223,800 XBox - 73,844,354
Actual, documented figures from Sony and Microsoft: PS3 - 70.2 million (Source - Sony) Xbox - 70.0 million (Source - Microsoft)
Which is why it is best to hear it from the horses mouth. Vg chartz is an estimate. A good one but easily can be out by 1.6 million in the grand scheme of things
hahaha, you guys love to jump on the "doesn't matter"wagen .. when you guys keep say how xbox crashed ps3 in sales but right after ps3 beat xbox in world wide sales it's "irrelevant or doesn't matter" this gen is far from over and will only end when both stop making ps3/360 hardware/software
...but as soon as the NPD charts come out sales matter again
I have a feeling VGC is guessing based on that false report by that data firm. Some of what VGC does is guess based on percieved demand or trend.
-MSFT won this year.
-MSFT is still ahead by millions
-MSFT destroyed the competition this holiday easily making up for any gains Sony made this year if any, truely.
You will see this when Sony and MSFT release the real latest figures.
Are emotions running high causing delusional desperatness because of next gen being around the corner?
PS3 fanboys think PS3 passed the 360 but VGC has the gap, although smaller than it actually is, still at a hard to beat gap at this point.
Do PS3 fanboys think VGC is rubbish about the overall Worldwide numbers but believe these two VGC articles on the front page of N4G are the words of GOD?
I see the same behavior from PlayStaion fans now as I did before this gen started a few months before the 360 launched.
@Blaq
Come on man. Call Of Duty #1 on PS3 LMAO
This exaggerated manufactured Playstation hype being created in the response of Xbox 720 rumors/leaks/talk to keep PS3 in a certain spotlight is boring and pathetic.
Sources to back up your claims? Nevermind I noticed the one bubble you wasted on BS.
EDIT: The way you're trying to put down the PS3 is pathetic. You say Microsoft is still millions ahead of the PS3. Let me see some facts to back them up, or are you just gonna keep talking out of your ass like you always do?
it's only 40,000 above the psp which some people think "died" 2 years ago. It's sad because i thought it would do better considering the hype for next gen is at its peak. And nobody is choosing WiiU over a 7y.o. console even at a similar price.
im happy ps3 is doing so well, it mean support for years to come.i just hate when i see sony fan boys act like they own stock on sony, it makes me puke when someone say's “sony best in the world, i want your baby”. you guys are sick. as for wii U, I dont see it lasting long. i was close to getting one too but i got my ps3 to keep me busy till ps4 or 720
regardless if it is sales over a week or two or if it is sales over a period of 5 years it should make a difference. the only people who care about sales figures are fanboys. if the console i'm using provides a variety of different quality games and continues to release quality exclusives then i couldn't care less, and currently that is the case. plenty of exclusives being released next year that i'm looking forward to.
surprised no one in the comment mentioned the fact that COD is doing better on the ps3 than on the 360. not that i care or anything its just amusing that the only game all the xbox users i know play is doing better on a rival system. that aside i think it ridiculous fanboys care so much about how much the company that made the console is selling. since when was sales figures relevant to gaming anyway?
i'm a ps3 owner and i played uncharted, resistance and heavy rain. i still play killzone 2 & 3 for multiplayer regularly i also play fifa13 and i got black ops the first one for a while then gave it to a friend i play most multiplats on PC though. anyways i'm not sure what point you are trying to make. if xbox had the chance to play ps3 exclusives why wouldn't they? do you expect me to buy a ps3 and buy nothing but multi platforms? maybe i have misunderstood you or you just made a silly comment.
You make it seem like a bad thing that we have exclusives AND multiplats to play; just because numbers aren't 9+ million per game doesn't mean it's a flop or it "sucks," it means there's other games to play and some like me are back logged to play other games first.
@Blackdeath
As I mentioned before, the ones worried about sales apparently have stock in these companies otherwise they wouldn't care.
I really really wonder, as I have now owned a 3DS and a Playstation Vita how the Vita is losing. The 3DS is a hot mess...it's e-shop is horrible, almost no support for older advance titles and very difficult to find something unless you know exactly what you're looking for. While the Vita is a seamless experience that provides more and more as it's life goes on. The games are top notch and it's just a really comfortable handheld through and through. Why in the world has the 3DS jumped ahead by such a margin I have no idea...it's a good handheld, just not as good as the Vita...not even by a longshot.
My only theory is 3DS is more geared towards kids than older gamers, and kids will almost take anything that will make them "cool" or that has real easy to pick up games since mommy/daddy will pay for it. Where the Vita is more "adult" in certain aspects the 3DS is more advertised as a kid/young adult handheld, and if you notice it's more kids owning one than adults. I'm not saying only kids play 3DS, but they are more of the majority.
Don't forget the price. For both console and games. It's cheaper. And it still is built to attract kids more; I just think there is a "barrier" for parents to buy their kids nice and shiny things believing those must be kids safe. And the Vita doesn't give this impression, the 3DS does (even though I thought the DS broke more often than the PSP).
That is precisely what it is. People don't seams to understand that although the vita is a handheld it is directly competing with the ps3 and 360. Not only on the consumer level but at the development level also.
Developing a game for the vita properly will cost almost the same as a console game, so they have to take into consideration install base and development experience. It's a no brainier that consoles would be more profitable.
Finally people are seeing the true value of the PS3, Waited years to see this, I only hope they are all taking advantage of Playstation Plus & the exclusives.
Lots of 3d tvs sold this holiday.ps3 is the.cheapest bluray player that supports 3d. I still have mine for that reason. Cant remember the last time I bought a ps3 game.
Pretty much every streaming service I've seen on the PS3 and Xbox(although my knowledge of Xbox's services are limited), and a lot of other things that I've never seen before. They could possibly be available through an app or something. All the major ones are there, then a lot of specialty ones. It's a pretty decent player, and the only downside is my dad doesn't like how the youtube app organizes searches, and the completely useless browser which doesn't let you actually select anything once you get to a page because of no cursor or way to select links. He really likes the dlna stuff though, which is something he's wanted to do for a while.
My dad doesn't care about 3D and probably never will, it wasn't the deciding factor, I picked it up over the lower priced model because it had Wi-Fi built in.
Does anybody know which console has sold the most overall? Wouldn't it be between the PS2 and Wii? I think I heard the Wii sold faster, but hasn't surpassed the PS2, or did it?
IF you look at just the console section. Top 3 consoles.
PS2 is at 153 million PS1 at 102.5 million Wii at 97 million.
The Wii will probably surpass the PS1, but will be hard pressed to pass the PS2 most likely.
Any of the current gen numbers on that list should be taken with a grain of salt, however the Wii is right around there based on official numbers I believe.
@Nes_ Daze, Sometimes it not always best for a console to sell extreme well at the beginning because I think it would die off sooner. Wii has done well for itself and I think the Wii U has the potential of doing well in the long run as well, because of the start it has right now.
I'm basing this off of how well the PS3 has done so far and how it done at the beginning.
Im confused at this chart.
@haha123, The PSP is cheaper, way cheaper and has a lot of support in Japan and other areas still.
Suck on it haters!
WiiU needs a price drop to stay competitive!
The wiiu is 1.5 Months old globaly. The ps3 is 7. So it's cheaper and got more games. But it's going to stop selling by the end of 2013. Stop selling as much anyway. By then the wiiu will be getting into its stride and increasing and increasing.
"But it's going to stop selling by the end of 2013."
i stopped reading right there ..you comment is an epic fail in every possible way
Sad to say, but there's more excitement for PS3 and PS4 (rumored name) than the Wii U.
What ridiculous logic you adopt. The PS3 will only become a more viable platform choice for entry-level families looking for something cheap, with a library of content available for it at bargain prices.

The fact you have to make multiple accounts to troll on here like a sad little coward is laughable XD

Sony are already 400k in front this year alone.
Microcrock and failu have no good exclusives.
A price reduction might pick things up for them.
How is this "as usual"?
fanboy > hypocrite
EDIT actually its only up to jan 12th which is just a week and a half of sales. which means even less
btw the average CODboy cant understand what all these numbers and complicated graphs mean so its not that big a surprise
None of them are available on 360.
I don't even own any of the games you listed, and the last new multiplat I got was Borderlands.
Oh, wait. You're pretty anti-PS3, huh? Wasted my time with this one, I guess.
You make it seem like a bad thing that we have exclusives AND multiplats to play; just because numbers aren't 9+ million per game doesn't mean it's a flop or it "sucks," it means there's other games to play and some like me are back logged to play other games first.

That might have to do with alot of people have it on 360 already. Or even Halo4.
Whatever, Its on...Microsluts!

Brought this one for my dad for $89 this Christmas. It's currently $96. It also supports more streaming options than both the PS3 and 360 combined.
My dad doesn't care about 3D and probably never will, it wasn't the deciding factor, I picked it up over the lower priced model because it had Wi-Fi built in.
