No. Done.
Expansion of "No": Multiplayer was only added in attempt to extend the game's overall market value. To give it staying power and probably offer a few extra avenues for DLC.

Could actually be considered to be a nice thing they're trying to do for fans, but it still suggest that resources - budget money - that could have gone towards the full SP game went into MP instead.

Agree... but to elaborate, single player games just don't sell as well. Let's be honest... most gamers today don't play through the same game twice. Which is why the value and popularity of these games drop.

People want more for their money, so adding multiplayer is a natural evolution.

Every developer wants the popularity and sales of games like cod and halo so this will happen to lots of games.

This is what is wrong with the industry this generation. They're trying to appeal to the CoD crowd and completely missing the point that most of the CoD crowd only buy CoD and are interested in little else, multiplayer or otherwise.
Godmars290  +   999d ago
Which is why more should go into making a game worth playing more than once, but because such is more expensive to do more than money-wise, we get multiplayer instead.

As a mainly advertised SP, this game isn't going to generate more sales, but with MP tacked on the people who bu it might play it longer. Buy the MP DLC as well.

Hmm not necessarily sleeping dogs and the batman arkham city games say hi Croft is the main character but there is no supporting characters or something tangible for multiplayer..

In a word: No.
Root  +   999d ago

It looks like Uncharted

Uncharted had dynamic events in the maps

Tomb Raider has traps

They are very, very's just sad they would resort to copying directly from another game instead of them trying to be more like the classic TR games.

Absolutely not.
princejb134  +   999d ago
the real question is how will it work?

will it be crappy like giving dead space 2 multiplayer and failing badly
or would it be good like giving uncharted multiplayer and been one of the best online games out there
GribbleGrunger  +   999d ago
If they don't want to get docked points in the reviews, yes. Is it needed? Hell no.
slimpickens  +   999d ago
If the multiplayer is groundbreaking, unique and fun then I'm all for it. YES
Now if it in any way hurts the single player campaign development or turns out to added trash then NO.

Money grab.

No and that's why Tomb Raider games don't have multiplayer. I'm not sure what they're talking about. Maybe it's that mediocre game with some other imposter named after Lara Croft or something that has "Tomb Raider" on the box. I guess it has the same name as the Tomb Raider games and even the main character but I don't see any connection other than that.

Has anyone seen the multiplayer? Max players is 4v4. They do this so they can justify the small maps which have very little thought and work put into them. It just looks tacked on.
Igor89  +   999d ago

I actually think it hurts them coz this way we will get shorter campaign and mp that nobody will play. Also, game looks awfully like Uncharted, too similar, both sp and mp.This is not something I will look forward to this year.
xPhearR3dx  +   999d ago
MP is being developed by a different studio dude. You're not going to get a shorter SP because of MP. FYI Tomb Raider came before Uncharted.
LAWSON72  +   999d ago
I wish they would have just put all their resources to this supposedly in-depth story of lara croft.
rocky047586  +   999d ago
What makes you think they didn't? They had been working on multiplayer separately from the single player so nothing was loss from SP. I don't understand how people just automatically think that devs are so stupid that they will just spend all of their assets on MP and not concentrate on SP. This isn't COD where everyone knows that they only work on MP a lot more than SP.
Cam977  +   999d ago
No. I'm a huge old/new TR fan and it looks terrible (the MP).
Tribulation4  +   999d ago
I understand where this article is coming from but at the same time; I believe the developers have the right to go down different avenues.

Yeah, Tomb Raider has traditionally been a single player experience but at the end of the day it could be a very cool feature.
As long as the Multiplayer does not distract or detract from the single player experience I'll be very happy.

And if people don't like the Multiplayer- don't play it simple as that.
SAE  +   999d ago
Guys . why dont you give it a chance ?. it's a reboot in the end so it's doing different things to be a new experience . wait until some fans or reviews or anyone that you trust and have the same taste you have and then take his opinion to it then judge it..

if i were you i would wish for it to be good. nothing wrong with that. it's not like you are losing anything. you have any point that you think it's wrong send it to the developers and they may listen . lots of developers listen ..

No, but swimming and non-regenerating health is.
Kran  +   999d ago
Not really, but it's a bonus I guess.
Jek_Porkins  +   999d ago
Not really, but realistically it isn't needed in a lot of games, but that doesn't stop developers from slapping it on there.

I understand why developers do it, because consumers want the most bang for their buck, but the fact of the matter is only s few games keep a long lasting community online and stay competitive. The Assassins Creed, Mass Effect 3 and Far Cry 3's of the world will never be able to compete with the longevity of COD, Halo or Battlefield.

"Is Multiplayer Needed In Tomb Raider?"

to everyone supporting MP in tomb raider above:

MP tacked onto single player games never ends up being any good. bioshock 2 was awful, MP for the upcoming god of war game is ****ing terrible (and only confirmed my statements a long time ago that MP in god of war was a very bad idea), deadspace 2 wasn't even relevant (i don't know of anyone who even played the MP)... shall i go on?

also, it has a tendency to take away from the quality of the single player experience because resources that could have been used to make the single player campaign phenomenal were siphoned away to produce a mediocre MP experience.

i don't think that adding MP to tomb raider is going to make it a better game, or add any real replay value.

the only successful MP addition that i can think of is assassin's creed, and even then it was only fun for so long before i got bored with it.

Tomb Raider is a single player adventure game.

Please concentrate on that.
