Wake me when there's jetpacks and holograms, the future is too slow.
BitbyDeath  +   1057d ago
Think we're going to get more AR advancements like Project Glass before we get to holograms, maybe in the next 10 years.

As for Jetpacks, there are too many idiots and psychos out there to let something like that go mainstream, unless the government decide the population needs culling of course.

'Any less than tons of steel on wheels known as cars?'

Aside from flying into each other/planes/helicopters/power lines etc, how difficult do you think it'd be to unstrap someone while they're in mid-flight?

That'd be especially hard to prove in court if someone were guilty of it.

Yea they already have some crazed lunatic out here named Barry Steakfries on a Jetpack busting down walls of laboratories, killing scientist, and stealing coins... LOL

(I love that game btw!!)

On topic tho.. it'll be interesting to see what Sony has up it's sleeve in the coming year for consumers. Peace

"Aside from flying into each other/planes/helicopters/power lines etc, how difficult do you think it'd be to unstrap someone while they're in mid-flight? "

Planes/helicopters - other planes/helicopters, as difficult to stop a person using those mid-flight.
Powerlines - Drunk drivers already smash into poles.

Nope. Still not any worse than what exists already.

Yeah CES is great. N4G is not as great during CES as it is at E3 or GDC. But for TVs that make you drool to phones you want in your pocket ASAP CES is the best there is!

Edit: DeadlyFire that will happen when phone components get so small and phones get so thin that most of the inside of the casing is air and they can float :)

AngelicIceDiamond  +   1057d ago
Right, Next gen consoles are for investors also. I believe more investors were present last E3, sense the debut of Xbox 360 and PS3.

Best believe investors will be all over the show floor at this years E3 with next gen consoles making their grand debut.

Next gen consoles isn't just the "new game machine." It's brand new living room technology.

Copy/pasted their 3DTV talking points, replacing "3D" with "4K". Somehow, I don't see selling $20,000+ TVs as a strong move to pull themselves out of the red. They're doubling down on the area where they're already hemorrhaging money, significantly limiting their consumer base in the process through insanely high prices.

fei-hung  +   1057d ago
I think they are targetting the rich with these uber expensive yet awesome 4k tv's. Clearly it is not something everyone can afford. People are still struggling to buy 3D and OLED TV's.

I think they want to get them out 1st before the competition. If they create a trend of theirv's being amongst the rich and famous, when these TV's become more affordable, they hope the trend will follow suit with the rest of the mainstream audience.

The 84" 4K TV is about £20k, but what about the smaller models that are around the 50" size bracket? £10k maybe?
superterabyte  +   1056d ago
Oled and 3D nah still struggling to justify paying the money out for an hd tv considering all my other priorities
fei-hung  +   1056d ago

Only just managed to afford a 3D tv. Bought Samsung 6 series which came with a pair of 3D glasses and free Xbox Kinect bundle for £550. Sold old TV for £100 and Kinect Bundle for £150. £300 for new LED 3D TV was bargain. Times are hard bro. To think there are peeps who can afford 10-20k TV's whilst many of us struggle with £400-500 TV's is amazing.
HappyGaming  +   1056d ago

Soldierone  +   1057d ago
Felt like something was there that wasn't ready. Perhaps Sony is learning to wait to announce things? The only strong showing was their phone, which will be out soon.

4K TV's sound awesome, not because I want one, but because that big "regular" HDTV I want will be dropping in price the second these hit the market :P So hurry up!

I think once PS4 is ready to be unleashed, Sony will be able to talk more about all of their plans. A majority of it seems to be resting on PlayStation. There was even a lack of Vita talk.
BitbyDeath  +   1057d ago
I want to get a 4K TV once they come down in price <$5000. But now they've also announced 4K Blu-rays, I have a pretty good collection of blu-rays right now so not sure what to do once these arrive. :-/

hazardman  +   1057d ago

kneon  +   1057d ago
Those "Mastered in 4K" movies are not in 4K, they are regular 1080p, just of higher quality so that the upscaling will look better.
Soldierone  +   1056d ago
@Kneon, where does it say that? It wouldn't make sense to me because most movies are shot with 4k cameras now. Only the smaller budget and indie movies are not.

Wouldn't make sense to down convert it, just to upscale it back to what it was at.

dontbhatin  +   1057d ago
Well its not technically MS fault for the blue screen. Normally BSOD is the sign of hardware failure. And seeing as how the computer booted up with a custom motherboard boot screen(exactly like my ASRock mobo) its a custom built PC that the events coordinator was using. So id say its nobody's fault but the coordinators.
talisker  +   1057d ago
I went to youtube to see the conference in better resolution and it's not a BSOD screen but a BIOS utility menu. You can read it on the top of it.

This means PSL made it up for hits or they don't know what they're talking about.

InMyOpinion  +   1057d ago
I work pretty close with it and it's an awesome phone. The screen (full 1080p on 5") is amazing and the 13mp camera is crazy as well.

The Qualcomm processor is also uniquely designed for Sony and is more powerful than anything out there at the moment.

Most of all I think the design on this one is impeccable. Not a fan of the earlier Xperia S, P, U etc. but now I think they design the coolest looking phones. And they don't feel as cheap and plastically as say a Samsung S3.

Check out the Xperia Zl that launched now as well. Very similar but with some differences.

other than that, i dont see how Sony stole any show.
Omega Zues  +   1057d ago
Personally, this was the first time in years that Sony actually stepped up its game and took some decent risk. Before Sony presentation even ended, already media was tossing out articles left n right with praise for Sony. Which is great to see, as Sony these days is famous for its love/hate relationship with the media. It was fantastic to see.

Over all. Great show, nice current products and 4k OLED, alas I can only dream of having one.
isarai  +   1057d ago
People may bitch about this presentation because there were no games, or ps4 info(it's CES not E3) but i like the fact that even though times aren't the best, they aren't switching to "Playing it safe" nice to see they are still sticking to making something new, and introducing new technology. and they actually did WOW quite a few people with the 4k TVs from what i hear many people are really impressed with the TVs
smashcrashbash  +   1057d ago
You know for a PlayStation based website they always seem to be always first in line to either talk down about or troll Sony. Seriously. Everything they do they are always the first to talk negative about it. When it was Black Friday they jumped in front with a story about how te VITA isn't even selling in the top spot and when people check it was very close to the top spot. They quickly took the story off but it just proves how eager they always are to say negative things about about Sony all the time even though their site is Sony product based. So ready to hate that they even write the wrong thing just to do it.

As someone on IGN said...

Sony announces a brand new phone and brand new TV's, gets booed...Apple gets their iphone spec leaked and everyone goes crazy.

BanBrother  +   1057d ago
Totally agree. Someone just needs to mention the iPhone and people get some weird tingly feeling in their nether-regions that I cannot explain, but Sony show off something that benefits everyone (4K TV's) and everyone is going 'meh'. This isn't some fashion statement like an apple product, this is the future. Whether people want to admit that is entirely up to them.
sarshelyam  +   1057d ago
You know what "WOW's" me? The realization that in Sony's world, the going rate is $300/inch. By my mathematics that means the "entry level" consumer grade 55" 4K 3D Display is going to be a sweet chunk of change...$16.5k to be precise.

Also...talking about the cost of an inch deserves a chuckle, so thanks for that Sony!
Riderz1337  +   1057d ago
You know what "WOW's" me? People creating false accusations that have absolutely no truth to them. I guess you work for Sony and know the price for the 55" 4K TV?
sarshelyam  +   1057d ago
Not a fan of math eh? It doesn't take a rocket science to take the known price of the 80", divide it and come to an average... know what? No. You're a mook!
insomnium2  +   1057d ago

So you mean that no matter the size it'll always be 300 dollars per inch? I believe this calls for a facepalm. I don't think you understand much how economics work on these (any?) things.
dontbhatin  +   1057d ago
$300 per inch? Really?

With that amazing math work you should be an accountant.

That just made you look lazy when you only considered the screen to be the only price point....

Do you know how many other parts are involved in a TV??
sarshelyam  +   1056d ago
Lazy, no...but I'll be it's a better guess than anyone else here pissing and moaning about my input on the matter.

I am absolutely aware of what goes into assembling a TV. To suggest I don't makes you a bigger fool than your implication that I am.

The original comment was made in farce anyhow, but as with most users on N4G, you're obviously devoid of a sense of humor...which is the entire point of this story "WOW"!

I'd say it's a fair enough estimation on this range of displays. No, it doesn't translate to every display from every manufacturer, or Sony specifically. Considering, however, Sony hasn't come out and said a price, I thought it would be funny to play it up...the whole thing was a joke in the first place.

That said, let's wait it out and come back to this when the price is revealed. If my price is on the money, or close within a grand or so...then yes, I understand the economics quite well...even if it was an equation made in jest. If not, then my point still stands on this being a joke.

N4G is filled with a load of curmudgeons.

Yes but an iPhone 6 will make everyone go crazy because it's one inch longer. Lol I honestly can't wait to see what the future holds for consumers in the electronic department. Companies are simply increasing the size of their products with each installment just so they can compare the size. You're not comparing your dick sizes how about you have some innovation once and a while.
tubers  +   1057d ago
While I'm quite interested on what the iPhone 6 would have (hardware and probably some new game that show some technical prowess), the successor to the Nexus 7 is something I'd be much more curious about.

One of the best tablet experience for the price (not to mention a decent car GPS).

Great option to the consumers that can't afford to chuck out $ 399.99 and up yet wants a decent media consumption device.

So the guy who wrote this is blaming Sony for faulty Microsoft operating system. Well... To remind you, Microsoft has a long history of fuckups at presentations, the most recent being a Surface failing miserably during its reveal.
dontbhatin  +   1057d ago
Its not Microsofts fault. The BSOD is a sign of hardware failure 90% of the time. If its anyones fault its the owner of that PC that was being used for the demonstration. And it was a custom PC since it showed the motherboards manufacturer at the boot up. PC companies block that with their own boot screen.

And this doesn't make me a Microsoft fanboy. This just makes me someone that understands the causes of the BSOD.

That may be the case but, why has windows blue screened on MS presentations so many times. even a recent presentation of the surface tablet failed on stage during an MS presentation.

But, you have to admit, The Windows OS just doesn't happen to be very robust. unless everything is perfect, from drivers all the way down to a simple app just about anything can take it down. granted, it has gotten better but, Windows still can make a fool out of CEO's from Bill G. to Kaz H.

One more thing, Are you seriously blaming the Display for a windows Failure??

But its not the BSOD, its a BIOS screen. That is nothing near a system failure as there are no errors. And if you zoom in, you can clearly see the word "BIOS" on the top of the screen, unless of course your eyes suck that much.
abzdine  +   1057d ago

madpuppy  +   1057d ago
"Kaz was set to unveil the new powerhouse 4K OLED TV by Sony, but was instead greeted by the infamous ‘bluescreen of death’ on Windows OS, rendered beautifully in 4K. This showing not only caught Kaz off-guard (which he managed to play off surprisingly well), but also the thousands watching at home who could only look on as Sony’s trump card to pull their sinking TV division out of the ground failed fabulously."

How can the Failure of Microsofts POS Operating System be Sony's Failure? The TV apparently was doing what is was designed to do, "render beautifully in 4k". I wouldn't call that a failure. Now, the mistake was thinking that a Windows OS is robust enough to not embarrass presenters of new tech, Windows has been doing that to just about every Bill Gates presentation of Windows, why would it be different for anyone else?
Dannehkins  +   1057d ago
Don't see the point of this article at all.

CES is not for games. Sony unveiled 4K televisions at a high price point JUST LIKE Samsung and LG. We are talking about 70" 4K televisions in most cases; they're not going to be cheap, but they show case them because that's the top end of their television line.

They show cased the Xperia Z. For the first time in a long time, I think Sony might of done something right in the mobile department. They've released a top end phone that will be coming out in the same time frame as their competitors.

To be honest with you, it was pretty much the same as what LG and Samsung and other people brought to the show. A lot of televisions, some laptops and camera etc. It was just that Sony show cased a phone where other big Android competitors didn't.
